I should add - our water is pretty soft (only 18mg CaCl/L), according to the local water company, so that explains the usual tap water pH of around 6.5.

I tested the water today (master test kit), 24 hours after putting the fish in. pH was 7, no ammonia. Planning a partial water change (maybe 20%?) later today and daily testing until all's stable. Thanks!

Thanks for that   I've got a few ornaments and a fake plant that they like to hide around. If these guys survive, I plan on getting some more in a few weeks when the tank is ready.
