I do still do a 25% water change every day because I am not sure if it is cycled or not.  I do not use a dechlorinator as I do not have chlorine in my water.

It isn't very precise but it is yellow meaning safe.  I will get a liquid test kit.  How do I know when my tank is fully cycled?

Yes I have a filter and I change the filter pad every other month.

You should be fine with the timer, that's a good idea. I wouldn't leave the light on 11 hours....

UPDATE: Sadly, Posiden died last night of unknown causes. I found him dead caught between the bubbles and a fake plant. That might have been the cause of his death. But now Hydra (the other one) is freaking out and swimming all over the place. He goes to the top of the tank, then the bottom...
