    Bala Shark Tank

Cool tank! Looks like your balas have a pretty nice home to me. Of course they could be in a larger tank...all fish could but hey I think its very nice. Don't let the people on here discourage you.

200W Heater Set At 26 C But Thermomemter Says 24.8?

I'm confused, isn't this thread about your heater in your tank...making your current tank a heated tank? I would go off the glass thermometer, they are generally accurate. Sounds to me like everything in your tank is doing what it should, don't stress about it.

    Filters

Aquaclear hob filters are perfect for any tank up to 55 gallons imo. They are easy, will last forever and have plenty of room for the proper media to harness bacteria.

What More Do I Need For A Successful Tank?

On the topic of the filter I would recommend starting with the AC 70 for that size tank, it is what I run on my 36 gallon and it works perfect.    I have never had an issue with HOB filters if you buy the right one, i have heard of some AC filters lasting 20+ years.

Looking For Something A Little Different

Bosemani rainbows...a school of 6-8 would be perfect for your tank. Take care of them and they have great color, they do prefer to be in planted tanks so keep that in mind.

    Api Ph Test Confusion

No offense but I have to disagree with this....I use wood in my tank and my pH is 8.0, wood can lower pH but it's not a sure thing that it goes to 7.4 at all.

Theoretically, What Would You Do With A 50-55 Gal Tank?

My next tank will be a 55 gallon fun planted scape, heavy on the wood, stocked with all bosemani rainbows...just love those fish and cant fit them in my 36.

2 Shops, 2 Very Different Experiences

Hope i am not thread jacking here but just wanted to share a quick experience I had last weekend that is along the same lines as the OP. I bought a hillstream loach from a local store about a month ago and as time went on i realized he was not happy and not suited for my tank so I called the...

    Lost In My Cycle.

It took my over 7 weeks to fully cycle and i did not see a trace of Nitrite till almost week 6 so just be patient. I stayed right around .25 ammonia the entire time and I am sure it is due to the large amount of water changes but I did not loose any fish and they never seemed stressed so it is...

How Long Do "low Tech" Plants Last?

Thanks guys, good to hear that they last! I will prob. start dosing ferts when i change my substrate and plant a little more heavily.

How Long Do "low Tech" Plants Last?

Just curious as to how long most plants last in an established "low tech" tank. My tank is a 36 gallon and I have 2 Anbuis Nana attached to some drift wood and just planted a Ozelot Sword. I also have a moss ball. I have an 18w T8 "grow light" for the tank and am not currently using any ferts or...

    Cycled?

That sounds better...i guess I would be shocked/jealous if your tank cycled that quick. Did you do a lot of water changes or just let things take their course?

Hard Work Has Paid Off! Now What?

Well, I have 2 suggestions for the sex of the Gourami..... LOL!   Ok cool I was hoping to have a full group of 3 so that's good to hear. I will look into the green neons, i am not a huge fan of glowlights though. Thanks Lock Man!

    Films...the Ones To Watch

Shawshank is amazing...Usual suspects may be the best mind job of all time though! Saw Zero Dark Thirty yesterday and it was well done, dont go into it thinking its a shoot-em-up film cause its not but good none the less.   Oh and going off of the Justin Timberlake post above Alpha Dog was a...

Hard Work Has Paid Off! Now What?

I started a new tank on Dec. 2nd and today was the second day in a row that I got the readings you see below. I know that I need to wait a little longer before adding more fish (it was a fish-in cycle) and I will but I am confident that my tank has fully cycled! Now I have a few questions as I...

How To Clean The U Bend Tubes On A Hob Filter?

Blasting it with a hose or hot water from your kitchen sink will not work...that used to work for me but I guess it depends on how bad it is.

    New To This :-(

I would return the plec as it will prob. outgrow your tank anyway and do a fishless cycle...trust me I am still in the middle of a fish-in cycle and it's a pain in the butt. Do yourself the favor of being patient and doing it the right way.

    Anubias Nana Attachment Question

    Anubias Nana Attachment Question

    New Rocks Causing Murky Water

I bought 3 new rocks from my lfs today in an ongoing effort to get my tank a more natural look (don't laugh at my substrate i will change it eventually :P). Everything I read about adding rocks to my tank said give them a good scrub and rinse and they should be good to add to the tank. I even...

    Anubias Nana Attachment Question

I just purchased a really nice looking Anubias Nana from my lfs. I cut it in half because it had nice roots and seemed that I could get more bang for my buck this way. I attached 1 peice to each of my peices of driftwood using rubber bands, how long do I have to leave the rubber bands attached...

    Nitrite Phase Of Fish-in Cycle

I finally yesterday got my first trace of nitrites in my 36 gallon bowfront. I set this tank up on Dec. 2nd and since I put the fish in have had fairly consistant readings of .25 ammonia and 0 nitrites. Finally yesterday I got .25 nitrites to go along with the ammonia so I did a 50% water...

    Odd Question

Pestmart is better than Petco imo but both of them tend to use 1 or 2 large sumps to supply the water and filtration for all of their tanks so if 1 fish has an issue it can easily spread to all of them. I have bought fish from petsmart before and had no issues but now that I have done my...

I Just Got A New Aquarium (36 Gallon Bow Front, Freshwater), Wondering

I have a 36 bowfront as well...you have plenty of options as far as fish, take your time and think about what you want while your tank is cycling. Problem With Leopard Corydoras

Bummer to hear this, I am getting to the end of cycling my tank and was really planning on having a group of 5-6 cory's in my 36 gallon but I too have hard water with a ph of 8.0-8.2. Is their any other kind of bottom dwelling catfish that would be ok in these conditions, I am trying to stay...
