Holes In Fish (Cyst That's Exploded)

Is there any way to find a pic of this particular parasite? I have google image searched and I couldn't find anything particularly useful. To be honest, I have never spotted anything in the cysts that actually looked like a parasite. I had a fish die of a cyst not long ago and then a couple of...

Holes In Fish (Cyst That's Exploded)

Hi all. I had a cyst appear on the side of one of my CPDs (Celestial Pearl Danio). I thought maybe it was from scrapping with another fish so didn't do anything. Anyway, that popped and another two have appeared now, so I need to sort something out. I have done a 30% water change and turned on...

What Worm Is This (Vid/pics) And What To Do?

No problem, better late than never :)   I still have some weird fish behaviour so I am going to treat with prazipro and see what happens.

What Worm Is This (Vid/pics) And What To Do?

Yeah I guess I didn't have planaria first time around. Two fish spat this thing out anyway - it's good to know it's probably nothing serious. Just a massive coincidence that it coincided with a fish dying that had a cyst that could have been something trying to get out (but probably wasn't).  ...

What Worm Is This (Vid/pics) And What To Do?

Thanks for the replies. I have had planaria in the past, just after I cycled the tank. When I added fish they ate those in no time. This thing is a lot bigger than the planaria I had before, though I'm sure there are different sizes. I would say it doesn't noticeably have a diamond shaped head...

What Worm Is This (Vid/pics) And What To Do?

Hi there.   I noticed I had a dead fish today (which was mostly eaten by my shrimp by the time I got it out). Anyway, at the same time I happened to notice a worm in the tank and sucked it out with a turkey baster. It may well have been what killed the fish, which had a cyst that could have been...

    Unidentified Lump

Cool, thanks for the info. I've been doing a 10% per day for the last couple of days since it happened. I've also had my UV on for most of today, which I hadn't done for a while. Today it certainly looks no worse than yesterday and possibly a bit better.

    Unidentified Lump

Sure, I have ph around 7.8, TDS is around 215, GH 7, KH4, temp 24c (though it's been up to 25.8c in the last couple of days cos it's been hot).   The tank's not as well maintained as it could be but it's not dreadful. I have just bought an RO unit to drop my ph over the next month or two. I...

    Unidentified Lump

Hi everyone.   I have had a lump develop on the side of one of my spotted blue eye females. Any ideas and suggestions on what it might be would be much appreciated. Thanks.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tYIT-1WSg-E&feature=youtu.be

Video - Is This Swim Bladder / Constipation / Infection?

OK so I did an autopsy. I  dunno how long it takes for fish insides to go off but they were in much worse condition than the other fish. The other one I did within about 30 mins of death. This one could have been anything from 2 to 6 hours.   SQUEAMISH ALERT - fish innards ahead;   First one is...

Video - Is This Swim Bladder / Constipation / Infection?

Hi everyone. Thanks for the suggestions. The fish was doing better yesterday, less well this morning, then I fed her some bloodworm (frozen) and she seemed a lot, lot better after that. I then dosed some more KB Tonic, as it says to do on the bottle after 48 hours and added an airstone just in...

Video - Is This Swim Bladder / Constipation / Infection?

Last night, so before i had any replies, I used King British General Tonic (Magnesium Sulphate 33% and Sodium Chloride 11%), which is meant to help "perceived" swim bladder issues & constipation. In terms of bacterial treatment I have melafix but I don't think I can add that now I've treated...

Video - Is This Swim Bladder / Constipation / Infection?

Hi everyone.   What's going on with this fish, do we reckon? I pulled her out the main tank just now, after seeing her drifting around not being able to swim properly. I lost another fish a couple of days ago who had gone extremely thin and basically wasted away. This fish is bloated - these are...

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

Unfortunately not. Just lost one in a hospital tank that I set up today. He was well on the way by the time I got him into the hospital tank so it was too late.   The worm meds didn't seem to stop the stringy poo. I think this guy who died (the alpha male forktail rainbowfish), had explosive...

I Cannot Get Rid Of A Trace / 0.25 Ammonia

Thanks for the replies guys. I have a very clear yellow from tap water tests. Anyone know what level the salifert goes down to? No point getting it unless you can tell the difference below the 0.25 mark. Thanks. Just a general opinion from the pics, do you think the condition of the plants...

I Cannot Get Rid Of A Trace / 0.25 Ammonia

ph is 7.8 unfortunately. Colour wise it's sometimes hard to tell but at other times, it's very nearly 0.25, so as much as I would like it to be a colour reading issue, I don't think it is. I may well get another testing kit though. I have Seachem Alert for free ammonia but that never shows...

I Cannot Get Rid Of A Trace / 0.25 Ammonia

Hi everyone. I'm at my wits end with this one. I have a constant trace of ammonia in my tank that's been fishless cycled then up and running for months. It always comes out (on API liquid) as just under 0.25. When I leave the test sample in the tube, after about 2 hours it's down to zero, so I...

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

So is the one I've got coming today no good for these? I was thinking this morning - maybe this blob is just a harmless microfauna anyway? I'm still gunna treat something but just thought that was worth adding.

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

Just a little update. I've been turkey-bastering (I believe that's an official verb?) out poo and looking at it under a microscope I ordered. In my latest sample, I have found a parasitic worm that's basically just a blob. I have been looking on this list (http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/fa041) and I...

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

Thanks again for the help. What is Praziquantel please? I see it's an active ingredient but is it in the JBL stuff you mentioned? I have ordered some of that, which will be here tomorrow. I have also ordered some Primafix and Melafix for general use, possibly after this. treatment. Still...

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

Can't edit my original post; the times are a bit off on the barrel rolls. They're 5.11 and 5.45. Thanks for the help, snazy. The fish you're talking about are forktail rainbowfish. They're pretty good but the alpha male is a bit of a bully. That may just be because they're not happy at the...

Combined Internal / External Parasite Treatment?

Hi all. I was wondering if there was a combined internal and external parasite treatment available in the UK, like tetra's Parasite Guard? I have fish acting extremely weird, wihch I think is most likely to be a parasite. Generally I have flashing, lethargy, some bloating and some weird barrel...

Fishes Flashing - No White Spot Visible

Thanks for the tip. Is this the stuff you're on about (for horses?) https://www.google.c...tNqT14QS434DACA Is there an equivalent that's a bit more fish specific? BTW, here are a couple of vids of my fish - general shot. Most of these fish will have flashed at some point. Not all the CPDs...

Fishes Flashing - No White Spot Visible

Any more help would be much appreciated. I've done pretty much all I can without starting some meds. I dosed with Seachem Prime, then did another 20% water change with gravel vac. They're still doing flashing. Some are also just hovering just above the gravel / hiding. Still no sign of any white...

Fishes Flashing - No White Spot Visible

I just went to a LFS and they said it was probably gill flukes and gave me Interpet Anti Crustacean Parasite. Now... Anti Crustacean does not sound particularly clever when I have shrimp and snails... Any thoughts / experience?

Fishes Flashing - No White Spot Visible

I don't know; this is my first tank and we're about a month in. What other irritants could there be? I wasn't necessarily intimating it was ich, rather I thought it was likely to be a gill parasite but was just hoping to get a rundown of what people would do in my situation. NB. I fishless...

Fishes Flashing - No White Spot Visible

Not really sure how to proceed here. I had a fish doing barrel rolls which I thought was a swim bladder issue. It may well be some sort of parasite after all. I have several fish flashing their heads against wood and grass. I see no sign whatsoever of white spots on their bodies / fins etc...

    Is This An Egg?

OK thanks. Given that I've only owned any fish for less than a week I'm not too keen on a population explosion but I'll remove it tomorrow when I turn the lights back on. Thanks for the quick replies.

    Is This An Egg?

Nah the plant has been in for a while and that bit's fairly newly grown so it's come from the fish. That's pretty cool, I guess it means they're doing OK? What does it mean when the eggs fungus? Should I take it out if the fungus is gunna do anything negative?

    Is This An Egg?

Just saw this in a plant just near the top of my tank and I'm wondering if it's an egg. Not the best pic but there is a clear globe in the middle, surrounded by the fuzz. I read somewhere about fish eggs "fungusing" whatever that means. Is that what the fuzz is? I have forktail rainbowfish and...

    Forktail Rainbowfish - Patchy Head

Just wanted to pop in and say that it's possible (though I'm not sure yet), that this was a false alarm. Today at least some of the patches are silvery, so I believe it may be further colouring up of the fish. I am monitoring the situation. I still did a 25% water change today. When I came down...

    Forktail Rainbowfish - Patchy Head

OK thanks. I actually did a 20% water change today. Just had a horrible thought that maybe Mrs Mike cleaned the tap with bleach and some of that might have got in. She was cleaning today. N.B. I have a combi boiler so run the water to the right temp out the tap. I was told this was OK cos it was...

    Forktail Rainbowfish - Patchy Head

They definitely don't look like cotton wool - they're totally flat. What % water change would you recommend? I'm more than happy to do so - the only catch 22 is that the water changes stress out the fish as they don't like me looming over them :(

    Forktail Rainbowfish - Patchy Head

They are grey. No rubbing. They seem to be swimming around normally. I didn't notice any slime and having just been to have another look, that's a no. Redness I don't think so. I didn't notice anything but I have turned off the main lights now unfortunately as I wanted to calm them down. It's...

    Forktail Rainbowfish - Patchy Head

I thought I should post a pic of the tank if that helps. I have fairly bright lights on (as you can see) for around 10 hours a day. I then have 3 spotlight led nightlights that give a decent variation in light / shade for a while. I then unplug two of those and just leave one on all night...
