    Eheim Filters Really Good?

This is off topic, but why did you want to change the bio-media ? AFAIK, it shouldn't be changed ever.

    What Should I Do?

No, I can't afford one. They cost over 1000 bucks here. :( But I can get my hands on a product called AmmoNil, that neutralizes ammonia.

    What Should I Do?

Hi, I've been on this forum since a long time, but I haven't posted since like...a year! After my experiments with a planted tank turned into a complete disaster, I decided to go in for a nice goldfish setup. I did my homework. It was a 23 gallon tank, so I couldn't keep more than 3 goldfish...

Black Crust-like Pigmentation On Widow Tetras

This doesn't look like the natural pigment to me. The Widows fade their colour when I switch on the lights, but this black portion remains jet black, it doesn't fade. I haven't seen this build up over a period of time, it has appeared all of a sudden. Fortunately they don't seem to be stressed...

Black Crust-like Pigmentation On Widow Tetras

Hi, I noticed that 2 of my Widow tetras have black crust-like pigmentation. Its near the gills and the chin area. I did a web search, and found something called black spot disease. However, this looks quite different. The black marks are more like a "layer" on the skin. The fish don't seem to...

    My Planted Tank

Hi, thanks for the replies. I could put a nice piece of bogwood in the center, but for that I'd have to uproot the Echinodorus Ozelot(s) to make space. They have really really deep roots, and pulling them out is almost impossible. Besides, I have shells in my substrate, so I don't want to put...

    Really Strange - I`ve Got A Fish !

You could use something like Ammonil or anti-ammonia rock to keep the levels down, but you'll have to get it out of the cycling tank for that.

    Good Camera For Fish.

Personally, I'd love to own a digital SLR, a Nikon D70 or something. But they are very expensive. I have a Canon Powershot A70, which does the job very well. Try to get one that can control the aperture, shutter speed, white balance and stuff.

    My Planted Tank

Hi, I added some grasses and Vallisneria to my background. Looks better than before, but I guess I still have a long way to go. (You can see my reflection on the tank  ) Comments, suggestions welcome :good:

    Can Pufferfish Go With Tetras?

You mean "neon" tetras? Well, many pufferfish species are brackish water fish, and most of them are known to be fin nippers. So I think they won't go together. But I've never kept puffers, so wait for some more experienced users to reply :)

    Cloudy Water

Hi there, I'm guessing you just bought the tank and all the equipment, and then put in your fish, right? Then your tank isn't cycled yet. Well, don't worry, thats what most newbies do. :) To know about the nitrogen cycle in detail, read the pinned threads...

    Cloudy Water

Hi, Welcome to the forum! :) Cloudy water indicates a bacterial bloom. This usually happens if your tank is new, or if your nitrogen cycle is messed up. Do you have a filter, and is your tank cycled?

    Ponds And Dogs

I have to setup a pond for my uncle's friend. He has a couple of dogs. One is a german shepherd, trained as a guard dog. He's got a bad temper and will try to bite any stranger. The other dog is more docile (I don't know which breed). Are there any issues with ponds and dogs? Do they try to...

    Unsuspected Fish

That is so cool B) I have heard of many instances like this. There was a cement tank near my home, (used for building repair work). It was filled with water, and kept unused for a week, and soon, we could see guppies in the tank. And I had been to this college nearby, that had a pond, and...

    Power Cut?

If power cuts are frequent where you live, and they last for more than an hour, then you could buy an inverter to power your filter, and other equipment. Buying a thermometer is a good idea, as Seidge suggested, so that you can keep an eye on the temperature. Usually it takes more than 3 hours...

    Sand From The Beach

pH is the measure of the acidic or basic nature of a solution. Salt is neither acidic nor alkaline. Infact, salt is formed when an acid and alkali neutralise each other. So salt in beach sand will not alter the pH. (Correct me if i'm wrong)

Is Ich In The Tank Or On The Fish?

This info is from a very old book, mind you, the book is very old, so the info may be a little outdated: It can be easily cured by using the Anti-Ich medicines from your LFS. Inreasing the temperature also helps

How Often Do You Feed Your Fish?

I was wondering how often do people feed their fish. I feed them once every day. And the food is consumed within 1 minute. This is my first poll, so I hope I don't make any mistakes. Do post a message saying how long it takes for the food to get over, that would give a nice idea on the quantity...
