This doesn't look like the natural pigment to me. The Widows fade their colour when I switch on the lights, but this black portion remains jet black, it doesn't fade. I haven't seen this build up over a period of time, it has appeared all of a sudden. Fortunately they don't seem to be stressed...

You could use something like Ammonil or anti-ammonia rock to keep the levels down, but you'll have to get it out of the cycling tank for that.

Personally, I'd love to own a digital SLR, a Nikon D70 or something. But they are very expensive. I have a Canon Powershot A70, which does the job very well. Try to get one that can control the aperture, shutter speed, white balance and stuff.

You mean "neon" tetras? Well, many pufferfish species are brackish water fish, and most of them are known to be fin nippers. So I think they won't go together. But I've never kept puffers, so wait for some more experienced users to reply :)

Hi, Welcome to the forum! :) Cloudy water indicates a bacterial bloom. This usually happens if your tank is new, or if your nitrogen cycle is messed up. Do you have a filter, and is your tank cycled?

If power cuts are frequent where you live, and they last for more than an hour, then you could buy an inverter to power your filter, and other equipment. Buying a thermometer is a good idea, as Seidge suggested, so that you can keep an eye on the temperature. Usually it takes more than 3 hours...

pH is the measure of the acidic or basic nature of a solution. Salt is neither acidic nor alkaline. Infact, salt is formed when an acid and alkali neutralise each other. So salt in beach sand will not alter the pH. (Correct me if i'm wrong)

I was wondering how often do people feed their fish. I feed them once every day. And the food is consumed within 1 minute. This is my first poll, so I hope I don't make any mistakes. Do post a message saying how long it takes for the food to get over, that would give a nice idea on the quantity...
