    Introduction to aquariums course

JB, random thought here, but you have no shortage of good ideas between how to market your artwork to such ideas as this, cultivating the next generation of fish keepers and caring for our finned friends. You are an inspiration. Also, congratulations on your upcoming marriage. You deserve the...

What fish for small outdoor pond?

Hi. How deep and how many gallons is the pond? Are those outdoor air or water temps?

    Frog paradise

Here in south Florida we have Bufo toads which are poisonous to dogs. We do have one cute bright green frog with big eyes hanging around our pond that I call Gollum.

Lesions on head and someting on tail fin?

Add 1 more tablespoon per 5 gallons after 48 hours if no improvement. You don’t add any more but leave it at that concentration for 2 weeks. If you do a water change within that 2 weeks, that new water coming in needs to have the same concentration as the tank, so it’s not diluting your treatment.

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

I reread it but came away with the same impression, that you can’t overfeed as long as it’s appropriate food, and that you may need more water changes to maintain water quality.

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

Twotank just gave us an abstract to back it up. Here are several more sources that talk of how it causes harm. I couldn’t find a single source that you cannot overfeed fish. Byron has given us much information on this over the years as well. Please share your factual bearing that you cannot...

    Problem with my tank

This isn’t very much information. “Water parameters are fine” doesn’t tell us much. The “fine” parameters can be appropriate for some species and not others so the numbers matter. Do you have any pictures of the fish that were affected before they died?

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

I agree that you can overfeed fish and that would not be good for their health. An automatic feeder and a human can each under or overfeed or give appropriate amounts. I would not advise that you can never overfeed fish if it is an appropriate diet and noticed this was said in the same post as...

    Would you pay more?

I would be willing to pay more, and do, for (what I trust to be as they say) ethically raised fish.

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

Have you heard of studies that humans who are fed just enough to survive live longer? There are studies on Holocaust survivors theorizing this is why they tended to live so long. Most people I know value quality of life over near starvation even if it means they might live longer. We can’t ask...

Silicone air lines... did I do wrong???

I have the same problem and it’s annoying. Today I tried adding nylon zip ties to hold them in place better. We’ll see if that works. They LFS suggested using the black airline tubing for outdoors because it is stiffer. I just didn’t want to toss all my silicone tubing but may have to switch.

🐠 TOTM VOTE NOW - July 2023 Tank of the Month contest (17 to 30 US gallons)

This is my first entry :fish:with my 30 gallon SeaClear acrylic tank. It has been set up just over one month, using pre-cycled media and decor. This started out with 6 young Japanese blue endlers transferred from another tank that are slowly increasing in numbers. There are also 1 yellow and 2...

I got an error when trying to see the video. The picture wasn’t too clear and I’m not an expert, but you might want to look up hexamita and see if that matches what you’re seeing.

Sadly, it is very unlikely to live long enough to need the 75 gallon. Hopefully you got a good one.

Doesn’t it depend on how much you’re feeding twice a day and not just the fact of feeding twice a day? Edited typo.

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

If it dumps all the food in, it’s definitely not the kind I use. As for clogging, don’t use flakes or anything that doesn’t pour easily. As for moisture, most openings face up when not in use and only turn to pour so they don’t get splashed from the surface. Those are moisture resistant. That...

    Thoughts on automatic feeders?

Agree with Jaylach. I’ve had auto feeders in use for a few months to prepare for a 3 week vacation, as I need to be sure it will not over feed while I’m gone. I still hand feed so I can know what’s going on, if someone’s not eating, as well as to fatten them up before going. They are live...

If it was me I would play it safe because accidents happen, tools drop and then that beautiful piece of work is leaving toxins and has to be thrown out. Yes please! I would love to see the process. Welcome back and nice to “meet” you.

3D background - foam and sealant question

I’m sorry I’m not much help for most of those questions. I use the pond foam and found that it’s kind of messy stuff to work with. Protect your skin and clothes and items you don’t want it on. For many things removing after it dries is easier and, until then, trying to remove it just makes it...
