I am looking to add a few surface dwellers in my tank - present stock list in sig... I would love to have a couple of butterfly fish in here, even though they are from a different continent, but wonder if they would tolerate my alkaline, hard water (pH 7.8, dgH 20). My temp of 24 is low-end...

Looks like your ammonia bacteria are working mate, the ammonia starting to convert to nitrite! On my cycle I waited for that first ammonia dose to zero before re-dosing. The concensus is then to go no higher than 3ppm on re-dose...I went to 1ppm but some may consider that too low. My pH was...
