    Hellos, I'm New....

I would do a 50% water change and add the water conditioner accordingly via instructions on bottle. Then I would look into getting a test kit. The API fresh water master kit is a good one! When you clean the filter, make sure you clean it in tank water... put some tank water in a bucket and...

New Filter Media For Tropical Setup

The bacteria will process ammonia more slowly at colder temperatures, so this will mean there will have to be more bacteria to handle the smae amount of fish at a lower water temp. -FHM

    Flow Rate Vs Contact Time

There is no such thing as too much flow rate. One of my tanks has perfect water parameters at less then 1x turn over in an hour... and some of my other tanks are pushing 10x+ turn over rate an hour. Whatever you think is okay will be find because the bacteria will very easily be able to adapt...

    Need Your Help

Okay, so when I got home from college the other day I found out that my sister has a goldfish in her room. She asked me to take a look at him because he was in a VERY small bowl. I said I have no room for that fish and that we are going to have to try to find a new home for him. I also found...

    Need Help Asap!

I am sure once the fry are gone, the two will re-unite. Although, just watching them today makes me wonder if the male is back to his original self. I may try to take him out of the net and see what he does. If he chases her around again... he will go right back in the net. :D -FHM

    Need Help Asap!

I just put the male in a breeders net. He was very easy to catch since he did not swim away because he was trying to guard the fry. And some of the babies have managed to find the female hiding under the log. She immediately got her color back and hopefully throughout the day she will venture...

    Need Help Asap!

This is so dumb! This is like their 5th batch of fry and this has never happened! argh! What do you guys think about putting the male in a breeder net for a while and allow the female to get re-acquainted with the fry? -FHM

    Need Help Asap!

So my male and female Kribs have had probably 5 batches of fry now. I just came home from college for the weekend and noticed my female hiding under a log, while the male guarded the 40ish week old Krib fry. I thought this was strange as I always see the male and female guard the new fry...

Yup, Kribs Have Laid Yet Again, Lol

Wow, congrats! They have not hatched yet. I separate all my fry from the parents at about 3 weeks. I have two other tanks setup with A LOT of Krib fry. I have been seriously breeding them since last year fall. So I have a fair bit of fry, lol. Congrats again on the 100 fry! Mine have yet...

Yup, Kribs Have Laid Yet Again, Lol

I walked into my room on Sunday to witness my Kribs spawning. There are A LOT of eggs this time! I have removed a couple snails (which I think ate a lot of my eggs last batch) so hopefully I will have a lot of fry this time. -FHM

    Farming Bacteria

Transporting: Double bag with 1/3 water and 2/3 air. You can throw some fish food in the bag to provide a bit of ammonia. -FHM

    Farming Bacteria

Sounds like a plan to me. As long as you have media and water running through it (filter) than the bacteria will colonize on it. -FHM

    Farming Bacteria

Are you trying to farm bacteria? First off... cool.. second... it may be a little hard as it would be a never ending process of adding ammonia. Just stick to the the 5 ppm rule... that is how much ammonia you should add and monitor ammonia levels everyday. -FHM

    20 Cichlid Fry

Usually if someone has well water, then a water conditioner is not needed, as well water does not contain chlorine and other harmful chemicals. -FHM

    My Fishless Cycle

Neons should really be in a tank that has been running for at least 6+ months. But if you keep your water parameters spot on, then this should not be a problem. -FHM

    My Fishless Cycle

I say you are nearly done with the cycle! Maybe a couple more days of adding ammonia, if that, and you are ready to do the 90% water change and add fish! :hyper: Congrats! -FHM
