    Argos play sand

Yep, sand tends to look darker when it's all clumped together like that, just make sure you clean it well to get out any muck before putting it in your tank. If you want to test it out, you could lay out a small amount in a see-through container and see what you think of it before going all the way.

    Argos play sand

Hi there! This is the type a lot of us in the UK use for sand in a tank. It looks a lot nicer when it's clean and laid out in your tank. Here's what it looks like in my tank.

    Red Tail Shark

Many species of fish take on new colourations and patterns when they mature, one of these species being the red tail shark. From photos online, I assume that those white edged fins are here to stay. Think of them like bleached tips lol Absolutely nothing to worry about, Meg looks nice and...

    Red Tail Shark

Yes! Mine has this colouration, though a little darker. The stark white looks very nice against how dark red tails are. Does yours have a name?

    Aquarium background

I have a plain glossy black one, creates a nice contrast against pretty much everything in the tank. Would recommend if you want something simple. Old pic to give an example.

(Unknown thing in tank) What In God's Name is This?

No, no fishing line. The body is the strange part though, which you've mentioned. Yes! I completely forgot that they have those little fan tails, it seems so obvious now lol. It still doesn't make sense of the pinched part, assuming that'd be it's upper body? It's incredibly likely that the...

(Unknown thing in tank) What In God's Name is This?

Hello, was having a look into the caves just now and noticed the shrimp kicking up something... White? Something cream white and long. Had no idea what it was (and still don't). Switched on the tank light and dismantled the cave it was in, and plucked it out. Shirt sleeve is now wet and fish...

    Clown Loach Survey

Wow, a gorgeous feller. Great, dark colour with those white edges. Only found out recently that they change colour depending on the substrate you have... Interesting trait, goes well with such an interesting fish. What are the fish with the red splotches? I see them everywhere, but the name...

    Dying Fish?

83F is fine for a little, as your tank will probably reach this temperature in the summer months - unless you live in the Arctic, I guess. However, it should be noted that the goldfish will gain a rise in metabolism in warmer water, which leads to a greater appetite, and greater levels of waste...

How to wash quikrete play sand?

Lots of experiences here and late by ten minutes it seems, but I used a blend of a few methods here. I detached the head of the shower hose, and injected lukewarm water into a bucket half-way full of sand, swirling it around with my hands until it was completely clean. Took sooo much less time...

    Dying Fish?

I would personally avoid shipping across the country in winter and other cold seasons, like @StripySnailGirl04 has said. The long shipping can stress fish, and the cold can result in death even with heat packs. The nitrate level is pretty high with that stocking (which is considerably low for...

To get more plants! Bit of a harsh punishment had it been for those little dudes! This time around I'm going for anubias and crypts, and maybe try out some new plants along with those.

    Stocking a 260L aquarium

I bought mine from VM Aquatics, they are a little pricy in general, but VM seems to be cheaper than a lot of different shops. Look around and see what best suits yoru tank. I use the large size where my sailfin plec (currently 7") can fit himself comfortably into it without getting himself...

    Stocking a 260L aquarium

They do! Probably more than the plecos themselves actually. Definitely don't regret buying them, but they do require some extra cleaning on the count of lots of muck drops in through the spaces between them.

    Stocking a 260L aquarium

Got a lovely 230L, 4ft with some lovely plecs, clown loaches, those shrimp and some other folks. Haven't posted pics in a while since the plants look a bit scruffy, but this was when I first put it up.

    Stocking a 260L aquarium

I've got 6 right now. Witnessed a scuffle between two this morning. Very strange creatures. My family says they look like Predator without his mask on. Named all of mine after Mortal Kombat characters. Tends to happen unfortunately. I managed to keep 6 of my original 8 rummynose tetras at the...

    Stocking a 260L aquarium

Hey! I've also got some fan shrimp, they're absolute characters! The more you have, I find the friendlier they are. More bold, and very energetic. Providing plenty of space for them to hide (mine like to sit beneath the broad leaves of my anubias plants, and the many caves I've got in the tank)...

Need a few ideas for 30G layout please 😉

You could try vallisneria and some taller plants like amazon swords/echinodorus at the back, then plant the elodea in front of that in thick patches. Smaller, more robust plants - like anubias towards the front work for me; positioned between and around rocks and wood. That aside, the tank looks...

    Howdy!

Welcome! Great to hear things are moving quickly with your bettas, would love to see if you get a chance to take photos! Sorry for your loss, many of us here can understand how terrible it is to lose a pet, and it's great to know you've found a way to cope with it.

Found something in my tank, not 100% sure what it is

I don't know if this is helpful to the OP or the problem at hand to be honest with you. Don't risk leaving them in the tank, good to take them out as soon as you can. There's a chance your gourami and rams will eat it, but better to be safe rather than sorry.

How to keep soft water fish in a hard water area.

RO isn't that expensive, for the record. Like Essjay said, many soft water fish will be perfectly fine in somewhat harder water, unless you're going for a truly picky fish like discus (as an off-the-top-of-my-head example). To soften water you can use an RO unit, or get RO water from a local...

    Mystery Fish?

Looks like some kind of guppy to me. They're no trouble, but beware that if the two are a male and a female, they will breed endlessly. Kuhli loaches might not be appropriate for your current set-up. They prefer to live in groups of 5 and above, and as such would need a bigger tank anyway. I...
