    bought two plecos . . .

I believe these are both common plecos. They can grow up to 24" (yes, inches, not cm) in length and can live for well over twenty years if properly cared for. Despite being the same species, there is a surprising amount of variation in their colourations, and can range from pale, reddish browns...

Do your guppies eat your live shrimp?

We can go into cherry shrimp and guppies together and see how it turns out! Right now I've got my first load of guppy fry in my 54L, and I'd like to get cherry shrimp when I've got all the plants in there.

Amano Shrimp Vs white skirt tetra

What size is your tank and what are the dimensions? Do you have any knowledge of the water parameters (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH, GH)? If so, listing them would be appreciated. Amano shrimp are social animals, and should be in groups of at least 6. As well as this, tetras are schooling fish...

    Random Discussion

My dad's off from Kent up to the Midlands tomorrow for my gran's (his mum's) birthday, since he's just had his first jab and my grandparents have had both now. I'd go up at any other time but I don't want to risk getting anyone ill, even if I haven't left the house in about a month now. It's...

Do your guppies eat your live shrimp?

I'd like to hop in on this thread too! Was curious about getting cherry shrimp with my guppies, but didn't want to risk it. I've heard that guppies might go for shrimp fry, but I don't believe I've seen any direct horror stories where someone's guppies have eaten their cherry shrimp.

HELP! My dojo loache is floating up side down but still alive!

I've heard that clove oil can be inhumane since it suffocates them rather slowly. I've never had to euthanise a fish before but I would definitely go for using a large rock since it's the quickest method.

    Really old catfish?

Sand is great for corys. They feed by digging around in the substrate and sifting through sand to get little bits of food. With gravel, it's hard for them to do this and can cause stress if they're unable to get food. Gravel, if coarse or unpolished, may graze their undersides or damage their...

    29g Saltwater Nano Tank

I'd really love to, but it all sounds so expensive!! If I'm able to get a tank for the living room or something I'd probably argue my case for getting a SW tank. At some point I'd like to try out every kind of tank you can have, just so I can see what I like best lol.

    Really old catfish?

What size is the tank? This combination of fish is definitely not ideal, as you've already said. Goldfish are coldwater fish, whereas corydoras are tropical fish - corys will need a heater for their tank. Comet goldfish need huge tanks too. They should be in a tank that's at the very least 45...

Question about adding in new fish

One thing I'd like to start off with is that bristlenose plecos should be in a tank that's at least 20-25 gallons. What are the tank's dimensions? They need lots of space to swim around, lots of caves, hides, and some driftwood. They also require "special" dietary requirements (a couple algae...

    Really old catfish?

What a beast! From the looks of it, I'd say he's definitely a corydoras, not sure what species though. Does he have any tankmates? Corydoras are a schooling fish and should be kept in groups of 6 or more of each species you keep. As for the lifespan, corys living this long isn't unheard of, but...

    Guppy not spreading its tail

A testing kit is, more or less, necessary. It allows you to tell if or when something's gone wrong with your tank. Like Slaphppy7 has said, this could easily be due to ammonia poisoning. But you won't be able to tell if you don't have a test kit. Why are you using blue dye?

    Mouthbrooding Betta Tank Mates

Hmm... If you're taking suggestions, I think even neon tetras or cardinal tetras would look quite nice up against those bettas since the colours contrast pretty well. If you're going for a planted tank I'd probably go for kuhli loaches and something like rummynose tetras. Green rasboras would...

    New Guppy Fry!

Woke up to even more! There's at least fifteen in there, though it's hard to count them all. No idea what I'll do with them all, but I'm quite happy! I was going to say that I can't believe it happened so fast, but I've had this tank running since early March, and I've had these females for...

    Best Goldfish Plants.

Hmm... Maybe elodea densa? Killing it yourself is a hard task unless you leave it out in the sun to dry up, and it's bushy enough that when it is nibbled on it's not too noticeable.

    New Guppy Fry!

Finally got some more fry! My mum and I noticed them about an hour ago, three or four tiny little babies. Might have more by the morning, but I haven't got any expectations just yet. Quite pleased though, they're very cute.

Red Tail Shark ok to put in 5 gal hospital tank??

I think he may die if he's that colour. My clown loach was a deathly pale like this, whiskers covered in little white specks and looking very sorry for himself the night he died of ICH. Hopefully your red tail makes it, but I can't promise anything. From the colour of it I would have said it...

Got a mouse in the house.

A cat might actually be a good idea. They require very little maintenance and are incredibly adaptable. If you get an older one that's already been fixed and knows how to hunt, you're basically all set. Purring at the foot of your bed is quite comforting, too. Well, when you have a cat it is. I...
