    New update?

I noticed this too! And the reply button is grey now. Definitely an update.

    29g Saltwater Nano Tank

I'll look into that. My two shrimp molts are chilling in some very strong-smelling surgical spirit. Good smell, though.

That's true... Maybe another day. I wonder if you can dry them out.

    29g Saltwater Nano Tank

Vampire shrimp are awesome for preserving molts. Big, and all stay together in two pieces. You just pop the "helmet" onto the carapace and you've got a full shrimp husk. I might need a bigger jar soon, since I'm wanting a few more shrimp for my 170L at some point. I do wonder if the molt you've...

They look great! Definitely going to look into that string-of-pearls plant.

...Think it would survive being mailed to the UK? Where do you put shrimp molts (personally)? All mine go in a jar of surgical spirit in my bedroom.

    Beginner Plant Recommendations (Terrestrial)

Ooh I really like these! The peace lily looks really nice actually! I've done exactly that in reference to the succulents. Three little potted ones on an old plate, with my little porcelain pig ornament next to them. The arrangement is subject to change, as are all things around me. The jar at...

    170L Community Tank

28.05.2021 Well, it's been a hot minute since I put something on this journal. Some important notes that I'd like to cover: - I have a job now! I've mentioned it on a thread of mine, but decided that mentioning it here would be useful too since it most certainly marks a milestone in my...

What Should I Do For Work?

South - Kent, land of the posh-knobs and shockingly high rent. I start on Sunday as a sort of trial, but hopefully I'll be properly working there by next week.

What Should I Do For Work?

Haha, I'm down in the South East! I've let a couple friends know though, and maybe just slightly hinted at the idea that they should come and pay me a visit... Maybe even selling a tank to them would be nice!

    Beginner Plant Recommendations (Terrestrial)

Not a big fan of parlour palms, but I really do like orchids and Christmas cactus. I'll consider an orchid for sure.

Beware that pest snails will breed like crazy! But if you'd ever like a few more, I'm happy to give you some of mine. I've literally got hundreds!

    Beginner Plant Recommendations (Terrestrial)

Whilst watering the plants outside, I found an old saucepan stand (photo down below*) that's been left in the shed for a couple years. I think it'd be perfect for a few plants, so does anyone have any recommendations? It has five tiers, all of which are 6.5" high. I'd like to keep it in my...

That'd be great! All the doctors' offices are slowly fazing out their tanks, which is a bit of a pain!

Read back in the last couple replies, I've gotten a job at a local fish shop! I live in England, by the way.

What Should I Do For Work?

Ooh I do hope so. Right now I'm looking for a cheap (and small) top to mid level fish, so hopefully I can get a little bit of a discount! Not sure on the perks yet, though!

Malaysian trumpet snails most certainly can. I think that bladder snails can, too. I don't know much about other snails, though.

What Should I Do For Work?

Ahh, I wish! The only diving I'm expected to do is diving elbow-deep into tanks full of freaky fan shrimp! ...The one drawback to working there will probably be that I'll come home with no wages after all the money I spend there. They got pink kissing gourami in recently... If only I had a...

    Apple Snails

Oh wow!! I had no idea that we can get apple snails again! Sadly I can't offer any advice, but I'm excited to know that they could be making a comeback here. Love how huge they can get.

How do I get food to my Pleco

Agreed with Circus. Another idea is that you could make an area where only the plec can reach so you can feed him there.

    2 days....

This has just become a chain of repeating what everyone else has already said, but - of course - I agree. They'll be perfectly fine. My tank (including corys, a very greedy pleco and atya gabonensis shrimp) is fed once every other day and they're very healthy and happy.

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Wonderful, it sounds great. Right now I've got Argos play sand in my 170L, and black aquarium sand in my 54L. Maybe I'll give it a try if I set up a new tank in the future. That's a fantastic looking cory, by the way.

Ooh, I'd really like to hear some stuff about that stratum stuff. I've seen it in a lot of videos, but never knew what it was called.

**Question of the week** | How important are sand sifting livestock to your tank?

They're not necessarily "important" to my tank as much as they're important to me... Corys are probably my least favourite type of catfish that I actually own (crazy, I know) but they're very precious to me and I don't think my tank would be as enjoyable as it is without corys. And as much as...

I think NannaLou was talking about traditional tea, like the stuff we drink in the UK. Personally I can't stand it!
  33. PlasticGalaxy

Is there something wrong with my tank?

Don't clean decor with any chemicals, including bleach or soap. Hot water and a new, unused scourer will be fine for most tank ornaments.

The same happened to me when I got in some more corys. My six original ones look HUGE compared to the new ones!

Oh, definitely. You never realise how much they've grown until you look back at their baby photos from when you first got them!! Then when you look back at your tank they look like giants!

HELP! My dojo loache is floating up side down but still alive!

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. Losing a fish is never easy. While I doubt this was the cause, I'd like to add that dojo loaches are sub-tropical/temperate fish. They prefer cooler temperatures (68-72F) than the typical temperature in tropical tanks (72-78F). While they can live in tropical...

    bought two plecos . . .

Ahhh alright, gotcha. I'm sure others on the forum would beg to differ and probably scream at me for saying this, but right now the 60g is alright for a 5 inch pleco. However I will warn you that if you keep it, you will eventually need a larger tank. I'm currently in the same boat as you, as...

    bought two plecos . . .

I would rehome at least one pleco personally. It'll be easier to find them a new home when they're still small. 20 gallons is too small for most plecos, let alone a common which can easily get up to the size of the tank by the time it's fully grown. Are both tanks 20 gallons?
  39. PlasticGalaxy

    bought two plecos . . .

How big is the tank? If you do choose to get new fish, plecos are wonderful community fish as I'm sure you already know. Nippy fish such as white skirt tetras, barbs and cichlids will nip at their tailfins but - as far as I'm aware - will not be able to significantly harm a pleco of that size...
