If you're planted heavily enough to justify EI, then there is no need to cycle a tank. You can lightly stock with small fish from the outset, and the plant growth will use up ammonia etc. Cover at least 75% of the substrate with plants, preferbly fast growing weeds. In a well-planted tank...

Superb Alex. Well done! If I had one minor crtitisism, if I may, I think the 'n' shape of the right hand branch affects the layout in a slightly unatural way, mimicing the profile of the background mound. A 'u' shape branch would look better IMHO, but I know there's little you can do...

I regularly pull-off any leaves that look bad. I simply follow the leaf to the rhizome and pull it off. It's take a fair bit of force sometimes. I don't see many plantlets to be honest. If I do I remove them right away. My thinking is that the plantlets are using nutrients over the mother...

This is an easy planted tank. It's a very slow-to-mature aquascape though. It's taken around 12 months to look like this. Standard Juwel internal filter (600 lph). Standard lighting (2 x 18w T8) - Zoo Med Ultra Sun and Arcadia FW tubes. All plants are easy, slow growers that do well in low...

I did this a while ago into a Fluval 204 external. I simply drilled a 6mm hole into the inlet tube, near the inlet strainer, and put the tube in. There's a thread on here somewhere about it I think. You'll need a bubble counter to monitor bubble rate.

Latest shot - I'm considering swapping the Crypt balanse for Cyperus helferi. The balansae is well over 3 foot long now and blocking a lot of light (it's only 1wpg to start with), and the lower crypts are showing signs of light deprivation. I've always like Cyperus, but I may have to add...

200 neons? Unless you have rampant plant growth you'll need to keep on top of bio-flitration and water changes. Consider an external filter at least. It looks like a Fluval 4+ internal you have. The variegated white/green plant, Dracanea, is not suitable for submerged life.

I buy stuff for ponds. Far more economical. It's worth checking if your supplier uses chloramines as some de-chlorinators won't neutralise these. But if it's purely for bleach then the cheapest stuff will do.

I have Rhinox 2000. I clean it every week to ensure max efficiency of bubble production. Clean diffuser = smaller bubbles. I pour neat bleach into mine, just a few mls. to cover the disc. Wait 5 mins. Empty. Pour another few mls of bleach. Wait 5 mins. Empty. Rinse under running water...

You mean incandescent tungsten bulbs? They are very inefficient, so will give you the equivalent of around 15% that of T8. So 100w tungsten would be 15w T8. And reflectors would be tricky. They get too hot too, that's where most of the energy is wasted, via heat. Colour temp. wise they are...

I don't know. I don't know if it is. I just read it in a few threads on APC. Could be balony... Worth a try though. JamesC is having great results with it, less CO2, less water changes, slower growth and no algae. PM him for more info, he's a top bloke.
