What Color Silicone Is Used On Tanks?

The advantage over black is that is does not discolour over time like clear silicon can do. However, clear looks better IMO as it presents the whole tank with less distraction, ideal for "serious" aquascapers.

    Johns 450ltr (110 Gals) Journal

You have Arcadia overtank 4 x 54w HO T5 right? I would keep the total photoperiod for 10 hours but adjust the qty. of tubes. i.e. for first 2 weeks - 4 hours 2 tubes, 2 hours 4 tubes, 4 hours 2 tubes Then gradually build-up the 4 tubes on to a max. of 8 hours with 2 tubes on 1 hour start and...

    Interpet T5 Compact

Aquatics-online will have the newer style units. They actually came onto this forum to talk about the issues. Unfortunately I can't find the thread but this one may help - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...amp;hl=interpet Here you go, it's in the same thread actually -...

    Interpet T5 Compact

This is a common issue with the Interpet PC T5s, although I thought they had addressed it a while ago. You may have bought an old-style unit.

    Johns 450ltr (110 Gals) Journal

Impressive so far, John. Good luck with the planting. This is where it really counts now.... My top tip - don't rush it. You've spent a lot of time, effort and money coming this far so take as long as you need to plant each stem etc. exactly where and how you want. Believe me, after a few...

    Dave`s Juwel Lido Journal.

Looks good, Dave. Interesting design. Hi-tech doesn't have to be short-term BTW. Plant choice and clever lighting is the key. Look at the ADA Nature Aquarium Gallery - full of ferns/mosses. Although the lighting is MH/PC look how high it's suspended, and there's the midday burst, of course...

Cool. It still looks very good and will no doubt evolve into something very respectable. All the best.

    Lighting

You may have success, all be it very slow growth. High light in a 10 gal. is over 40w with reflectors. CO2 and regular fert dosing is required with high light too.

My Best Scaping Effort So Far...

The aquascape looks nice so far, lots of potential. I love the wood, although my placement would have been different i.e. in a 'u' shape instead of 'n'. Your bristlenose maybe eating your hygro. Is it well-fed on dry foods? Another possibility is pest snails. Don't forget that plants need...

    Ro Water

Remember that pH is affected by other acids i.e. nitric and humic acids, as well as carbonic acid from CO2 . So your pH may be lower than what is indicated purely by relying on pH/KH/CO2 tables.

    Ro Water

I'll probably stick with RO and HMA/CBR filtered tap then. Cheaper too. I'm getting Stendker discus from Germany so the water will be relatively hard anyway. Thanks James.

    Ro Water

Hi Lee, To be honest I haven't tested my water for KH/GH in over two years and I've moved house (locally) recently. I'm guessing it's about KH 7, GH 14 or so, as I get pH 6.8 with approx. 30ppm CO2. For me most plants grow well in most water chemistry as long as there's enough light, CO2 and...

    Nutrafin Co2 Q's

As the CO2 bubbles travel through the Nutrafin ladder/diffuser, they become smaller. This is the CO2 dissolving into the water. The longer the path the bubble takes the better. In a perfect diffuser the bubble would completely disappear before reaching the surface. This is why CO2...

    Ro Water

Or just add tap water to RO to acheive your desired GH/KH i.e. your tap is GH 16 and you want GH 8, simple mix 50:50 tap/RO. That's what I used to do. Now I use 100% tap that is hard and loaded with NP. I will be using 100% RO and HMA + additives in my discus set up though.

    Water Movement...

Most plants grow just fine in flowing water. Some actually prefer it i.e. Bolbitis.

    Fish Choice For My Setup

A nice group of 6 to 10 will do nicely. Hopefully they'll be enough room for territorial disputes during spawning. IMHO cardinals, rummynose and silver angels look awesome together. Have you seen the cover of Dennerle's "System for fascinating aquariums"?

    Fish Choice For My Setup

If you buy regular angels (scalare not altum) small enough then they can't eat small tetras. The they will hopefully grow up with them not realising they're a food source. I kept a breeding pair of silver angels (5") in my Rio 125 for 12 months+ with no loss of cardinals or rummynose. Altums...

    Fish Choice For My Setup

If you're sticking to an Amazonian theme then you're pretty limited to other SA cichlids. Apistogramma or rams would be nice but are still not "large". Hatchets perhaps? Not sure if they jump. Another option maybe Mesonauta festivus (flag cichlid or festivum), although I've no experience...

    Bubble Counter

The Nutrafin diffuser is a bubble counter too. The advantage of using a separate bubble counter is to prevent the white gunk collecting and blocking the ladder "rungs". This is common when using DIY recipes in particular. A drop checker is still a good idea, as an indicator of CO2 content...

    Bubble Counter

I use both. The bubble counter is an instant indication of CO2 dosing, real time. Drop checker is a good indicator of dissolved CO2 in the water, but takes time to adjust to any changes. Especially useful on a pressurized system where the bubble rate can be adjusted so easily i.e. you have a...

    Co2

Yeast-based CO2 would be possible but very high maintenance to maintain good, stable CO2 levels in your size tank. Personally I'd wait a while until you can afford a pressurized system. You can get one "cheap" by using a 2Kg fire extinguisher (around £30), a CO2 reg (around £50), CO2 hose...

How To Get Enough O2 For Fish And Co2 For Plants

No need for an airstone at night unless you are overstocked with fish and have minimal surface movement. 24/7 CO2 is fine providing there's good surface movement and sensible stocking levels. Many use a solenoid linked to the lights to save CO2 on a pressurized system.

Yes, make cuttings with sharp scissors, then re-plant. Same technique with all stem plants. Hygrophila corymbosa "stricta" is the full name BTW. Good luck.
