Major Update: Thanks for all the help everyone. Apollo is better! His eye is normal, he's active, almost full colour again, and was just added back into the tank. Tried the mirror again today, it worked a treat. He finally started flaring, and I haven't seen him do it for so long. He looked like a blue frilled-neck lizard! Just wanted to add this. Apollo is better as well, I'm about to update it on the other thread.

If doing a fishless cycle, you could have added ammonia to the tank to get it started. And yes, never listen to the people at the store.

UPDATE: Apollo is definitely experiencing discolouration around the head area. Please help me find out what is happening and how to stop it.

Another update: Little to no change overnight. Meds are being considered but not used. He is still very active, but for some reason he mainly swims along the very back edge (like he is pacing). Well, fish will be fish. Eye is still cloudy, and a bit bigger than the other.

Okay, so Apollo's head is pale on the underside, which it apparently wasn't like before. Any ideas about what could have caused this?

It's also not as white, the pupil is easy to see.

UPDATE Apollo's eye has gone down noticeably. He is now in the hospital tank. I hope the transfer wasn't too stressful. We are intending to leave him in there until he has fully recovered. He still is behaving normally, swimming around, eating, etc. I think he'll be fine.

He still appears the same, not better or worse. In about an hour or two he will be transferred to the hospital tank.

I don't think I can cultivate that many species. The only possible ones at the moment would be earthworms (which I don't trust in my area) and ramshorn snails. Maybe I will try them soon? Definitely no fruit flies at this time of year. I might use New Life Spectrum Pellets instead of Betta...
