Betta with Dropsy - Need help

How would I go about giving a bath (I've never done one)? I am considering trying to get Maracyn 2, if possible. Seems that it isn't actually pineconing, just looked like it.

Betta with Dropsy - Need help

Hello, recently my betta came down with dropsy. Originally, I though it was constipation, but after a week of treatment and no change, I diagnosed it. His symptoms are severe bloating and pinecone-ing of scales. I need some help. What should I do? Since I am late on diagnosis, is it worth trying...

Nope, no swelling, or anything else.

White rings around base of bettas eyes

It's a bit hard to see in those photos actually. I think the best is fourth, in which just above the eye you can see it.

White rings around base of bettas eyes

The parameters (forgot to put them up earlier) are: pH: ~7.8 Ammonia: 0-0.25ppm Nitrites: 0ppm Nitrates: 10-20ppm I will conduct a water change now. Any advice or help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

White rings around base of bettas eyes

So, if having to take a cat to the vet in the middle of the night wasn't bad enough, this morning I noticed a white ring around each of Percy's eyes. They are very small, and there has been not appetite or behaviour change in Percy. What could it be? I tried to get photos but it's a bit...

    Betta suddenly timid and jumpy

Apollo's side is nearest to the window, but I don't think that they can see each other because the divider is completely black with only a few holes drilled through. Occasionally, they both flare at the divider, but I supposed that they can hear each other. I will get a picture later today so...

    Betta suddenly timid and jumpy

We have had Apollo for a few months. It is a divided 70 (or 75, can't remember) litre tank. That makes Apollo's side about 35l. My betta lives on the other side of the tank and is still completely normal. Apollo's tank is mainly planted in the back half, with long tall weedy plants. The front...

I thought the minimum tank size was 5 gallons, no less.

    Stocking a 3 gallon tank

Hi Luke, that tank is a bit on the small side, and isn't really suitable for any fish. A 5 gallon is suitable for a betta, so maybe you should try that? Or would you prefer one of the other options you mentioned? If so, you will need an even bigger tank than that. Make sure to cycle your tank...

    Betta suddenly timid and jumpy

So, we went away for the weekend, and when we came back Apollo, my sister's betta, was suddenly acting very jumpy and timid. He always retreats to the back of the tank, hiding behind the plants out of view whenever anyone comes toward the tank. While we were gone, our mum was left to feed the...

My betta sleeps all the time? Dangerous?

A few questions. How often and what size are your water changes? What are your parameters? On a different note, I'm not sure about the compatibility of those species, and I'm pretty sure that the butterfly loach requires much more than 10g. Its growth may be stunted if it is in too small a...

    Betta has Pop-Eye

Major Update: Thanks for all the help everyone. Apollo is better! His eye is normal, he's active, almost full colour again, and was just added back into the tank. My sister insisted on waiting a bit more before buying meds, and it has cleared up perfectly. Just one last question: will it be safe...

    My Betta Percy

Tried the mirror again today, it worked a treat. He finally started flaring, and I haven't seen him do it for so long. He looked like a blue frilled-neck lizard! Just wanted to add this. Apollo is better as well, I'm about to update it on the other thread.

    hello, keeping a betta.

If doing a fishless cycle, you could have added ammonia to the tank to get it started. And yes, never listen to the people at the store.

    Betta has Pop-Eye

UPDATE: Apollo is definitely experiencing discolouration around the head area. Please help me find out what is happening and how to stop it.

    My Betta Percy

Okay, I forgot to update this with Apollo sick. The other day I crushed a snail and dropped down into his tank. He followed it down, then snapped at it a few times at the bottom, and lost interest. It was worth a try. I pulled out the mirror again. This time, Percy followed his reflection but...

    Betta has Pop-Eye

Another update: Little to no change overnight. Meds are being considered but not used. He is still very active, but for some reason he mainly swims along the very back edge (like he is pacing). Well, fish will be fish. Eye is still cloudy, and a bit bigger than the other.

    Betta has Pop-Eye

Okay, so Apollo's head is pale on the underside, which it apparently wasn't like before. Any ideas about what could have caused this?

    Betta has Pop-Eye

UPDATE Apollo's eye has gone down noticeably. He is now in the hospital tank. I hope the transfer wasn't too stressful. We are intending to leave him in there until he has fully recovered. He still is behaving normally, swimming around, eating, etc. I think he'll be fine.

    Betta has Pop-Eye

He still appears the same, not better or worse. In about an hour or two he will be transferred to the hospital tank.

Would the epsom salts be useful in this case at all (my sister really wants to know)?
  31. GobyMaster11276

    Betta has Pop-Eye

Okay, so here are our thoughts. Tomorrow he will be moved to the hospital tank (which is taking its time to heat). We still have epsom salts from the time I unsuccessfully treated a goldfish with swim bladder, if those would be useful for a bath or whatnot. What type of antibacterial medicine...

Also, what is the risk of my betta, Percy having it (he's on the other side of the divided 75l tank)? Is it viral?

    Betta has Pop-Eye

Okay, so I was just relaxing, enjoying my Friday, when my sister came into my room and said, "There's something wrong with Apollo." I thought torn fins possibly, but it turns out his right eye was swollen and whitish. After very quick research we decided it was pop-eye. So, we quickly whipped...

    My Betta Percy

Okay, a very minor update. Tomorrow, I will crush a ramshorn snail or two for Percy (more advice from Nick). Let's hope he'll eat them. I put a mirror in front of the tank today (because I'm uncomfortable with putting one in the tank) and nothing happened. Percy just looked at it. Remind me to...

    Desert Gobies

I will have a look at mineral balls. How expensive are they, and how long do they last?
  36. GobyMaster11276

    Desert Gobies

Yes, I would be adding it in with water changes. Don't worry about using the metric system, it is my preferred one (though I mainly use imperial on here because it is easier for most users). For water in lesser amounts? Just asking because the salt wouldn't evaporate, so most, if not all would...

    Risks associated with live foods

I don't think I can cultivate that many species. The only possible ones at the moment would be earthworms (which I don't trust in my area) and ramshorn snails. Maybe I will try them soon? Definitely no fruit flies at this time of year. I might use New Life Spectrum Pellets instead of Betta...

    Bumblebee Gobies

Interesting article. Read some of it with the help of Google Translate. I guess in the end it comes down to personal preference with that. If salt is used, freshwater can be added in the next water change to induce spawning (as they do go up river to breed naturally). Apparently it isn't that...

    Risks associated with live foods

I would likely do a mixture of pellet and mosquito larvae, as I have been doing fortnightly. I would probably feed 7-10. I don't know, hard to count them in the net. After or before the larvae, I also fast him for a meal (because I was told a while ago that most people do this).
