You are right Blast.... same applies to fish and fishes... and the other confusing one is sheep, which has no plural.... one sheep many sheep... (not sheeps as some South Africans would say).

Almost got it Standby.... it should be as you say "There are a lot".... but it is not the tenses rule which applies (tenses being present or past), but it is the singular/plural rule.... more than one "are" and one "is".... This is the most common mistake made by South African English... the is...

Other words, which also bugs me endlessly is when someone talks about that e-mail which I "send" you in stead of "sent" and then the constant mixup between "advise" and "advice"..... By te way.... did anyone spot the mistake in my opening example?.... whats wrong with the sentence when I say...

I deduct that my interpretation of the rules is not clear to all.... so let me define... Untill such time that we (if ever) have sponsors for prizes in our monthly competitions, they are presented here for fun and for everyone to enjoy..... The rules are thus not strict, but in place to ensure...

I grew up in a society where it is customary for the husband to be the breadwinner and support the family...... I've been married now for more than 38 years, and my wife has always been a housewife looking after the kids, cooking and housecleaning and the general chores around the house...

And just this heads up every time the frog is mentioned..... Please read the rules about trying to influence the voting..... They are numbered for a particular reason.

I have moved many times with many tanks and many fish.... (15,000+ fish) and not lost one.... up to 8 hour trips.... I merely remove all big rocks and ornaments from the tank.... syphon water down to about 6"depth (fish still in there)... then 3 or 4 guys carry the tank to the removals van...

Hey!.... & then I turn on my real mean streak :angry: and delete it so's no-one can win.....

Way back in the early 1960's (1962 to be exact)..... (I was only 11 years old at the time).... we formed a gang of about 5 boys and there was also this one girl, Magdalene Annandale.... who obviously came from a very poor family.... she was very quiet and withdrawn, (but not an under-achiever)...
