When a Blessing Becomes A Curse

More people should follow twotankamin’s example of freely passing knowledge. It is the best way to ensure continuation of skills. To often people keep their knowledge close to the vest like it is a state secret to be protected from others.

I tend to avoid concerning myself with that I have no control over. I think that has greatly contributed to my contentment.

When a Blessing Becomes A Curse

Two tanks, perhaps you could consider an apprentice. Someone who would embrace your knowledge and be willing and wanting to learn. Then your legacy would live forward and as a benefit the necessity of backing off would be less pressing. We did something along those lines several years back. It...

When a Blessing Becomes A Curse

Strength can be a relative thing, at least for me. I use a resistance system in place of weights. I use it half hour six days a week. My muscle mass is good but not what it was, hence I can lift less and for shorter periods of time. That is a natural regression that comes with age. I suppose the...

    What are you doing today?

Made a last-minute decision yesterday to take the day off and do a small road trip. We wound up in Burlington Vermont and browsed the Church Street Mall, a pedestrian only section of downtown complete with street performers. I always love the mimes. On the way home we explored Shelburne Farms...

When a Blessing Becomes A Curse

I cannot raise you, nor do I want to in truth. However, I have discovered as I age my former superior health has deteriorated in a steady progression. I have a mild form of Prostate Cancer, stage Gleason 6. My Doc has me on Finasteride which has lowered my PSA significantly from plus 4 to 1.1...

    Swordtail?

Thank You ColinT. I am surprised by this, (but do not question your ID of the fish). This fella appeared from nowhere in the 37 gallon a few weeks ago. In that tank are molly, swords, an Angel, and a BN Pleco. Linda did tell me she had put a Guppy in the tank for a couple of days, (she can not...

Journey from dining room to fish room.

I put a minnow trap in the pond Wednesday to begin the process of removing the goldfish children. Pulled it on Thursday and was pleasantly surprised with the results. Inside were a dozen and a half little guys and gals who now reside in the large pond up the road. Will rinse and repeat until the...

    What are you doing today?

Pulled all my wire in the pond house yesterday and attached outlets. Had a bump in the road that delayed the work a couple of days so had to tell Chris I was not ready for his work. He will be here the end of next week. So, power up is now set for next weekend. I am in no rush as we have temp...

A common problem on help boards from autos to zoos. Seems a final reply is no less than polite.

Beautiful pond! Is that a walkway across the left side? Linda wants a walkway over the dam between our ponds. I resist because I think it would be a frog salad bar for Buster.

Now that is a great idea. Our cat Patches craves the outside, but we do not allow it because she wants to wander into the woods where a Fox family lives. She spends much of her day in the enclosed front porch looking longingly into the pond area. She rushes the door whenever we open it. Today I...

Journey from dining room to fish room.

Been a few days since I have added to this thread. The weather finally broke somewhat. It is still 90ish but the humidity has returned to normal north country levels. Both Linda and myself are pretty worn down by the working the build project in the excessive heat and humidity. Another batch...

Did all the drilling in the pond building yesterday for electrical wires and set the boxes in place. This weekend we will dig a 16 inch deep by 8-inch-wide trench from house to building and run some 12/2 UG wire inside a PVC pipe. We can then pull wire throughout the building Monday in...

    What are you doing today?

Pond building took a couple of weeks longer than it should have due to Death Valley style heat. Will be pulling wire this week and Chris will come next week to do the hook up. It will be nice to eliminate the lead cords running the pond pumps. We have put wicker furniture as well as a bar table...

    Potential disaster

Came within a whisker of installing solar a few years back. A failed septic system followed shortly by a failed boiler changed my wallet priority. I do not regret the change of direction. Solar in north New York is not good economics. My idea was to further our self sufficiency at the time...

    What are you doing today?

It is horribly hot here and has been for days on end. We are regularly hovering at 100F real feel give or take a degree or two. The few rain bouts have been deluges last for maybe 20 minutes then quickly fade away. This summer has been nothing like anything I have ever experienced in my...

Journey from dining room to fish room.

Build project has been severely slowed by weather. It is blazingly hot here with mostly 90F and heavy humidity. We have made progress each day but are limited to about 3 - 4 hours of work before being overcome with heat. Today it will again be hovering around 90F. I do not remember an early...

    What are you doing today?

Today Linda and I will begin putting the sheathing on the pond building. Yesterday I did all what I call the garbage work to get it ready. Garbage work is the parts of construction where you work a whole bunch but at the end of the day when you step back it does not look like you did much...

    Building 75G Stand

Looks good. I would fix the legs with gap but that is because I am anal when working wood. Trim will both hide the mistake and tie things together regardless.

    Disaster at the pond

I may put a camera up, Linda and I talked about it a few weeks ago. Perhaps when building is finished. For now we installed two strands of wire, one 3 inches above ground and the second at 14 inches. The wire is attached to an old but quite functional and powerful electric fencer. Put that on a...

    What are you doing today?

My friend had a holster made at the local leather shop. It fits his battery and he simply takes it with him when he parks. He also locks the rear wheel with a case hardened steel lock. Case hardened steel is difficult to cut with anything less than an industrial grinder.

    Disaster at the pond

Apparent fishocide at the small nursery pond. Went out to clean the fountain we use to Arerate the small pond and found pieces of the juveniles all about the bottom. Not a single survivor. The parts were mainly heads. I am in a quandary as to what animal would leave so many parts. No death...
