I'm going to say it's on your end. It's hard to say with you being a beta tester.

Like most animals fish will itch and scratch. If they do this infrequently then it is nothing more than scratching an itch like you and I do. However, if they do it a lot, then it's a sign of a problem. Most commonly that problem is an external parasite. There are protozoa that will get on...

If you do it (no real reason not to) make a build thread! Also, as side note, you don't have to get rid of your freshwater tank - have both!

That will work nicely for them. Much better than the 20 long. Also, if you wait for PetCo to have their $1 per gallon sale it will only cost you $40.

Not the kind of anemone that host clown fish. There are other types you could keep, like a rock flower anemone, but clowns don't host with them. Maxi-mini anemone would likely be okay as well. Live rock is rock that has the bacteria already in it and is kept wet to maintain it. You can get...

When it comes to anemone the kind that clowns host with, there is no such thing as a small one. Even the bubble tip anemone, which is the easiest to keep, will get 14" across. That's big. They go up in size from there. You would need lighting fit for a reef tank and that is a big discussion...

The short answer is "it depends". Some people will have no substrate. This is known as - you guessed it - a bare bottom tank. There are lots of benefits for this in a reef tank but I find it unnecessary in a fish only tank. I also love what lives in my substrate. Which should be aragonite or...

Okay, so my answer works. I always suggest that you start the process with live rock and don't trust that freshwater bacteria will survive in a marine tank. They may well, as some bacteria are found in both environments, but you can't be sure what bacteria you get.

1( Would a 20g long tank work well for a couple of Clown fish? Maybe a diamond Goby? (A lot of other species that I haven’t looked into yet) I rather say 30 gallons but if well maintained clowns can thrive in a 20 long. In this environment I would recommend no more than one other fish with them...

Shrimps keep dying & white ring around the shrimps

I haven't used Equilibrium so I don't want to endorse it or not. I have used the other two. Here is a link to the product page that goes into dosage. https://www.brightwellaquatics.com/products/shrimp-florin-i.php You can get the product online through various sites.

    A newbie's question

You're welcome. If you have any other questions please ask. I recommend you start with the largest tank you can. When it comes to marine bigger will make it easier on you. 30 gallon minimum, and 55 gallon really is the best starting point. Once you have experience you can go smaller but with...

    Royal Gramma Gone?

If it is dead and you cannot get it out let the CUC have it and do a medium sized water change after a couple of days. There are many things that can cause this, such as parasites like isopods. My recommendation for a tank that small is to stick with the two clowns and if you want to add a third...

Shrimps keep dying & white ring around the shrimps

Stable temperature, clean water, and often the addition of a small amount of iodide can help. Kent Marine makes a good product and Brightwell Aquatics makes Florin I which is specifically for shrimp and planted tanks.

    A newbie's question

The short answer is "nope" they are not. You can run a marine tank with a canister filter or even a typical HOB filter. You can use the same lighting as a FW tank (unless you want to grow corals). There are good reasons to have those things (I do) but they aren't required at all, especially if...

Fat Platy Might Have Swim Bladder Disease... Help!

There are treatments for swim bladder disease. The problem we often run into is this - we call it swim bladder disease, but it isn't a disease. It is a symptom of several different possible diseases. I recommend a few things to try. Withhold food for two days. If the problem improves this...

    Maybe a bit creepy!

I personally like the likes. Sometimes I don't have anything to say but want the person to know I saw their post and approve or feel a certain way about it. That said - I understand why a person would not like it or get annoyed. FORTUNATELY there is a solution for those people - turn off the...

    Aiptasia or zoanthids?

Sometimes it can be hard to tell since they are related. From the photo this looks to me like it is a majano anemone. Coloration and the rounded shape of the tentacles are identifiers. The majano is also a pest and has a strong sting. How to take care of them depends on what else you have in...

How would a carribean reef biotope tank be made?

Fortunately a Caribbean reef has a lot of diversity. If you want a true biotope you will have to source your corals. Many come from Australia, and from Indonesia but may also be found in the Caribbean with slight variations. Elegance is a great example. It grows in both places but those...

    Hydrocotyle tripartita care?

For me it's been an easy plant to keep. I've not had any issues with it over the years. I don't like to keep it with cory or other bottom dwelling fish since they tend to dig it up. I've kept it in high light and low, with and without Co2.

White mold on driftwood is it dangerous?

For me that resembles a bacterial bloom. It doesn't look like a particularly large one either. I am agreeing with what ShaenaB123 commented.

Thinking of going from artificial decorations to live plants. How can I make this less stressful for fish?

There are some plants that grow better in gravel. Do a little research in our choices. As for how to make the transition that depends on what the aquascape is now. If you just have a few fake plants then replacing them with similar real plants will minimally stress the fish. However, if you...

    New Cory's are dying?

This topic always seems to come up. My take is that not all cory are created equal. This post is discussing panda cory and in the case of panda cory I strongly recommend a sandy, even silty substrate for them. But even more important than that is the pH levels. If we are trying to match what...

Shrimp often change color just prior to molting. That might be the case here.

Who is the creator of fishforums.net?

No. I've been here a while now but am not the founder. The founder sold the site. I was admin for a salt site that the same company owned so they asked me if I would mind coming over here. I never met the founder as he went when he sold the site. The site has since been sold again.

Will you please make more “Likes”?

There's a balance I think that forums have to go through. On the one hand they need to compete with new platforms like Facebook but on the other hand I don't want forums to lose the thing that made them so popular in the first place, that sense of community they come with. They are the last...

Will you please make more “Likes”?

Though I do like the buttons I think that it would be nice if people would actually post "thanks!" or even tell why. That way it builds friendships and, for me, a better closeness than a button.

Did the moderators go on holiday?

There are no threads awaiting moderation so there is no reason that it shouldn't be on the forum. Only first posts are moderated so we don't get spam. Thereafter they just show up.

Did the moderators go on holiday?

We will pick some more moderators soon. We don't take nominations, but thanks for the suggestions. The shortage has just come from a coincidence that we've each had things going on in our lives but we are aware we need a few more hands on deck!

    betta w/ huge belly

Generally this is the result of a bacterial infection. The idea behind adding salt is that it kills the bacteria. It can also kill the fish. So don't over-do it. Also, don't use table salt. Your fish doesn't need the additives like iodine. The general rule is one teaspoon per gallon of water...

    betta w/ huge belly

To me it looks like dropsy. The reason it seems so unusual is simply the anatomy of the fish.
