My First Foray Into Raising Fry!

I know about the water quality I issues, I bought them before learning about that. There is absolutely no aggression in my tank, the betta is super chill so it won't be a problem. It sounds like it's sort of a mystery as to what color they will be so we will see! How long until they color up?

So New Light = Algae Problems. Who Would Have Guessed? Also Plant Questions.

Yes that is correct. Some stem plants actually prefer to take it through their leaves such as my Pogostemon Stellatus Octopus.

So New Light = Algae Problems. Who Would Have Guessed? Also Plant Questions.

Yes, the above water leaves are super green and fine. @Essjay I just started fertilizing a week and a half ago so they are still in the process of growing big masses of roots. The leaves have gone from yellow to perfectly green and healthy in that time though so they are doing great, it just...

My First Foray Into Raising Fry!

Thanks so much guys! How long until I can put them in my tank with a Dwarf Gourami and Male Betta? Also I have NO idea what color they will turn out to be. My male is a Tequila Sunrise guppy, and my 3 females are grey feeder quality guppies lol. Anyone have a guess at their coloration?

My First Foray Into Raising Fry!

That is some very good advice! Thank you! When you you get 500 from "1 breeding" you are saying that they only have to be with a male once and then they have multiple batches?

Please, please, please, please research the nitrogen cycle and learn how to cycle a tank BEFORE putting fish in. Besides that :hi:! Feel free to ask any question at all. It is better you ask a question then to have something go wrong because you didn't ask it.

My First Foray Into Raising Fry!

I finally managed to find and separate 2 brand new guppy fry before they got eaten! I don't know why my guppies don't produce that many per birth. Aren't they supposed to produce like 50 or something? I don't really know how many I get as I have never seen them actually dropping the fry but I...

    New guy over here!

Maybe tiger barbs for a schooling fish? It's kinda iffy with the turtle in there as I believe he will eat smaller fish, but I could be wrong.

attach air stone to internal filter

The workers at fish stores can rarely be trusted to give good advice. Could you tell us more about the symptoms of the dead fish? Tell us your tank water parameters, tank dimensions, what filter do you have, etc. We can help you figure out what really killed your fish. The only real reason to...

    Red Plants

This may very well be. However, most good high end plant lights have red lights as well. It doesn't sound like yours has red. Neither does mine and it's growing my plants, but I am also growing low lighting, easy to grow plants. Maybe for your higher lighting setup maybe you would need red? I...

My first aquarium ever - guppys

The filter sponge is already cycled from your friend. It already has all the good bacteria you need for your aquarium. Mystery snails are actually much easier to control than other snails as they lay their eggs above the waterline of your tank. If your tank doesn't have space between the water...

    Red Plants

Yes that sounds about right. I HAD NO IDEA THIS EXISTED. Man now I am rethinking life choices. My world has just been shattered to learn that there is a red plant that can grow in low light. So jealous of anyone who has that plant.

    Snail Advice!

@Mick85 I kind of want lots of smaller ones, as well as the added benefits of mts, such as substrate aeration, which also helps bring water column nutrients down to the plant roots, and they just clean the mulm deep down into the gravel. @eatyourpeas Thank you for the heads up. How likely is...

    Red Plants

Wait I don't think any salt water lighting works for freshwater... The spectrums are much different.

Really any sponge filter will work, but I would personally recommend the aquarium co op ones.

    Red Plants

The only way I know of would be to get red root floaters as they can access Co2 from the air. They still need quite high lighting though to get nice and red. What lighting do you have?

My first aquarium ever - guppys

If you got a sponge filter with good bacteria from a friend and it was running for a good while your tank is fully cycled, don't worry about that. Almost any snail would be fine for your tank. The only time you need to worry is when you are keeping Oscars, big cichlids, or puffers. Snails are...

    Snail Advice!

Hey guys! I currently only have 1 nerite snail but it turns out one nerite in a 30 gallon is not enough lol. I have been wanting Malaysian Trumpet Snails (MTS) for some time now to keep my substrate nice and clean. I went around my LFS looking for if they had any laying around but they...

Man 90 percent of this thread has gone over my head so forgive the novice question, but I thought duckweed was THE PLANT that grew like crazy? Wouldn't it be a good option?

!!!!!!!!! This is mind blowing news! I have never heard this before but this kind of makes sense. Thank you! Do they just keep growing new leaves and pushing the old ones out, or does this stop eventually and they just stay happy with the leaves they have?

    Planted cycle

I don't know either of them. They might be great, they might be junk. I would personally stick with the well known brands such as Fluval, Eheim, Marineland, etc. Make sure you have a thermometer as heaters are not to be trusted to keep the temperature at what they say they will. If at all...

    Advice on fake plants

Live plants would be by far the best. They help remove harmful chemicals from your water, they help oxygenate the water, they look amazing and feel the most natural for your betta. That being said make sure you get really easy to grow live plants as I assume you won't have a high tech setup. If...

BETTA FIN ROT? WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

Ooh that's a thought as well. Didn't think about that one. Yeah betta's don't like a lot of flow in their tanks either so if the filter has a strong current it can stress him out trying to fight against it all the time.
