I can't comment on the ghost shrimp, but amano are ok. I have 2 amano living with a female betta, and they've been peaceful.

I thought the same on first look, but if you zoom in, the poop is dark and look "full", not stringy at all. From what I understand, the stringy poop connected with disease would be really thin like there's nothing (or sometimes bubbles) inside.

I thought this little lady was carrying eggs. I transferred her to her own tank to condition for breeding... turns out she was just constipated! Photos of her poop hanging before it eventually dropped.

It's true that Betta Imbellis are the "peaceful bettas", but here in South East Asia the opinions are mixed. Some think they have been bred to become aggressive (I don't even know how that works). The keepers I asked said that they're usually peaceful when given more space. That makes me think...

I'm new and still learning, but without CO2 injection, putting the light higher and shortening my aquarium "daytime" made the algae more manageable for me. It's still there, but I'm closer to finding my tank's balance. Wait for the advice from our more experienced members. Good luck!

I use a small brush to disturb the gravel and make the dirt float, a small hose right behind it to suck up the dirt without sucking up the gravel. But I don't have shrimplets yet, so not sure if this will work for you. Do they stay close to the gravel?

Aside from reading a lot of forum posts, I have joined local groups that keep and breed bettas. What I've found 3 months into the hobby is that the temperament of the individual bettas play a big part. Some are OK with smaller fish or invertebrates around, while some can't even tolerate snails...
