    Pleco

Was the tank cycled before you stopped using it? Was the filter running while it was not used? Most important, what are the current water parameters? I had a cycled tank that didn't have livestock for about 3 weeks, but I kept the filter running even if it was just rocks, wood and water...

    Propagating Aponogeton Ulvaceous

Thanks! I have rubbed the 2 stalks together, but based on that link I'd have to wait about 8 weeks before I see seeds! That's good to know, but what happens next? Do I plant them and grow out of water? do I need to dry the seeds before that? Anyway, I'll have to do some experimentation since it...

    Propagating Aponogeton Ulvaceous

My aponogeton flowered today, and I was wondering how to harvest seeds for propagation. Anyone have experience with these? Mine has flowered on a single stalk, and I've read using a fine brush to pollinate will produce seeds. How long should I wait before I see seeds? How do I "harvest" the...

I can't comment on the ghost shrimp, but amano are ok. I have 2 amano living with a female betta, and they've been peaceful.

How long is your fishes poop, can it beat mine.

I thought the same on first look, but if you zoom in, the poop is dark and look "full", not stringy at all. From what I understand, the stringy poop connected with disease would be really thin like there's nothing (or sometimes bubbles) inside.

I thought this little lady was carrying eggs. I transferred her to her own tank to condition for breeding... turns out she was just constipated! Photos of her poop hanging before it eventually dropped.

    Red Cherry Shrimp

Over here you pick what you want to get. But you have to know how to sex the livestock. How about getting some fish to eat the eventual shrimplets?

    B. imbellus

It's true that Betta Imbellis are the "peaceful bettas", but here in South East Asia the opinions are mixed. Some think they have been bred to become aggressive (I don't even know how that works). The keepers I asked said that they're usually peaceful when given more space. That makes me think...

Beginner - Lighting, CO2 and not knowing what I don't know

I'm new and still learning, but without CO2 injection, putting the light higher and shortening my aquarium "daytime" made the algae more manageable for me. It's still there, but I'm closer to finding my tank's balance. Wait for the advice from our more experienced members. Good luck!

    Red Cherry Shrimp

I use a small brush to disturb the gravel and make the dirt float, a small hose right behind it to suck up the dirt without sucking up the gravel. But I don't have shrimplets yet, so not sure if this will work for you. Do they stay close to the gravel?

    Live plants

I do some trimming every 2-3 weeks. Really low maintenance. My tank is 3 months old, and these plants have been there since day 3. One of them is placed near the end of the tank, so the leaves get "damaged" when it touches the glass as it grows. It'll slowly rot away, so as soon as I see the...

    Betta in community aquarium

Aside from reading a lot of forum posts, I have joined local groups that keep and breed bettas. What I've found 3 months into the hobby is that the temperament of the individual bettas play a big part. Some are OK with smaller fish or invertebrates around, while some can't even tolerate snails...

    Live plants

Have you tried the other varieties of Echinodorus? I have a couple in my tank (sp Bleherae and sp Barthii), and the only maintenance I've done on them was to cut the damaged/rotting leaves and the overgrowth. How long did you have the Hadi before it died? Sorry I can't give more...

    Plant for identification

Thanks for the replies. Got the plant out of the tank and into a pot! I bookmarked the link for future reference. I do remember telling them at the checkout that I was buying plants for my aquarium. My bad for not asking specifically if these were aquatic plants. Gotta hand it to this plant...

    Plant for identification

Anyone know the name of this plant? I saw it in a bag at a mom&pops lfs about 2 months ago, and I really liked the deep purple stems, so I bought them. It has thrived in my goldfish tank without a substrate--the stems were "plugged" into a hole in a piece of wood. Leaves are 3.5" long, 1" wide...
