Canister, definitely! I have a fluval FX6 and 306 on my mbuna tank and an Eheim Classic 600 - 2217 for my axolotls - they are all awesome.

yep, bought one when my tank was cycling and the temp stays at a steady 17 degrees - best investment I ever made for any of my tanks.

Its probably just purging any air that is still stuck inside, I wouldn't worry too much. I have a fluval 306 and FX6 on my mbuna tank - the 306 did that a bit when I first set it up, but it settled after an hour or so.

Hi Bettas, I have no experience with SW tanks - the cost and experience involved are out of my comfort zone :) but one thing missing from your list was an API saltwater test kit. I only  thought of this because I was doing a few tests on my cycling axie tank while looking at your post :)

dead spots aren't necessarily all that bad - if waste is collecting in one area, often this makes it quicker/easier to clean.

you can also place a fan on high and let it blow across the surface

I have 8 harlequins and they are peaceful, happy little fish :)

I use black chalkboard paint on all my tanks - an easy way to hide inlet pipes etc and the fish really stand out. Gives a nice matte finish - you dont want a shiny surface.
