Thank you for creating this thread. I am looking for floating plants so this is very nice to have.

    Algae Eater

I agree with this about the Otos. I did not have a successful ownership of them. They disregarded all algae crisps I would feed them and they cleaned my tank too well. Needless to say.. I have not found the body (don't worry, I cleaned, did huge water changes, everything is okay). That was...

Thank you so much. I am excited to get into education but my mom is thinking about getting out as well. I will definitely reach out if I have questions!

Just got my ACT results in...

100% agree. I am focusing intently on the SAT because I want to become a teacher and maybe even an English teacher in high schools down the road, so I know that it is important. But my ACT, I am shooting for a good score (26-27) but I am not too freaked out about it. I am so glad there are...

Just got my ACT results in...

That is really good. I think my sister got a 26 when she took it her junior year. Are you interested in science and math? If your major is not focused on science or math, your ACT won't have a huge impact on it. I know most colleges look for 23+. Edit: Didn't read the other posts. Now I see you...

    Fish with curve spine

I would have to agree with Colin on this one. Looks like a genetic deformity considering livebearers tend to have bent spines quite often. I would just separate her from the main group so she doesn't breed with any of the males and pass on the deformity.

I went to an aquarium store and had them test my water. They said I had an ammonia spike. Currently, my stats are perfect with : 7.6pH 0 ammonia 0 nitrites 5 nitrates

    36g Stocking, Plants, Cycling

I have a 11.5g that I did a fish in cycle with but had little plants and lost two fish during it... was it because I didn’t have enough plants? Don’t worry- I am set on getting floating plants. I am guessing it’ll be a month or less until i get the tank and everything for it.

Okay! So are you saying if I have a planted tank I don’t need to add ammonia, I can just add the fish?

    36g Stocking, Plants, Cycling

Hey guys! I have created a thread similar to this but now my tank is getting closer. I have decided it was my obligation to save for a tank before I save for a car, especially since my mom is willing to pay for my car (I just wanted to help out haha). So here are some questions I have! Cycling...

    Snail Food?

I recommend chopping up some zucchini or boil some spinach. They will eat this in a few days. Wait a couple days after it is finished, then put some more in. They will grow like crazy and be very happy and healthy!

My momma platy died giving birth..

Okay I was thinking this was the case. Every few weeks she would pass stringy white poop but since it would go away I didn't think anything of it. Now I am seriously regretting it. They were larger than any fry I have seen come out. I currently have fry that are about 3 weeks old and are...

    Need another tank..?

Hello! Awesome! I recommend this to everyone. Here is what you need to know. Tank: You can use the following link to stock your tank. It is the most accurate, using your water chemistry and filter to calculate your stock. https://aqadvisor.com/ Breeding: Livebearers will breed. I have found...

    Need another tank..?

Goodness Essjay really hit the mark with this but I was going to say the same thing. Your water if too hard for Raspboras. Unless you want to work on softening your water (If you want, I can post a link), you will need to go in a different route. Some hard water 'shoaling' or 'schooling' fish...

    Mystery Fry?

Here is some info I have for you about fry: Molly fry: Molly fry will almost always come out with some sort of coloring to them. Whether that be a mix of different colors or silver, green, whatever color your parents are. They will be long and lanky, very long tail. Swordtail fry...

    90 Gallon Unheated Tank

Gosh I wish I was this lucky to get a tank for free like this. I am so excited about your minnows, when you get them can you post pictures? Minnows are some of the most active fish I have seen and are so fun to watch. You are so blessed!

Easiest way to clean new rocks to put in tank?

Yikes, you are right do not use chemicals for cleaning anything you put in your fish tank. Here is what I do: Cleaning: First, put all the rocks in a closed bag so no water can get out. Fill with hot water (very hot) and let sit for two minutes. Come back and unload that water, continue doing...

My momma platy died giving birth..

Thank you. As I had said, my ammonia levels used to be pretty high but that was months ago and she had given birth already. I assume it was just too much stress for her to handle. I only moved her because she was having trouble swimming and ended up getting stuck in the house I have as decor. I...

    Half-Clamped Old Guppy

I would assume so. Frozen bloodworms have immune boosting qualities in them!

    Half-Clamped Old Guppy

All livebearers do not last very long because of how much they give birth. I would assume she is getting old and worn out. Her immune system could be breaking down as well, as soon as I see pictures I can say for sure, but I would feed her freeze-dried bloodworms and keep him in warm waters.

What to do with cloudy water?

Hello! Here is what I think could be wrong. Causes: Cloudy water is usually a sign of a build up of ammonia/or proteins; specifically white cloudy water. Anything green is algae build up! This is a call for pictures if you can. To Fix: In order to fix this issue, you need to neutralize all...

    Tank cleaning

All things that Colin mentioned is correct. This is what I do with an 'overstocked' tank. I gravel and water vacuum about 75% weekly. I rinse the filter with old tank water and put it back. I test the water before and after the water change. It is recommended monthly to do a full tank...

    Betta sick again.

Okay! It seems you keep him very healthy. I would keep him in the main tank and observe for a week or two. If the gray patch doesn't go away, it could be scarring/new coloring/some sort of bacterial infection (which I doubt). Has @Colin_T helped you yet? He knows the most.

**Question of the week** | Do you like how your aquascape looks?

I think my biggest thing is plant life. I would love to add way more plants and a carpet (I have a thread about this, go check it out if you have good info on how to grow a carpet). I will be splurging soon and getting a $250 36g TopFin aquarium with a stand! I am so excited! I am going to...

    Whats wrong with my betta?

Hello! I am so sorry about your betta. Here is some important information about the common issues in bettas. Stress: Bettas are very susceptible to stress. What are your water parameters? Diseases: Here I found a link about s-shaped spines. This is common in livebearers and I have never seen...

Are my female Bettas trying to mate?

This a sign of aggression based on your description. Not mating. Usually, this is a challenge put on by the younger betta and the older one is not phased by it. Aggression in Bettas: Male bettas are very clear about their aggresson, coming in forms of chasing, flaring, biting, and fin...

Is my Balloon Molly fry suffering?

Hey, everyone has already helped you out it seems. I just wanted to say that most fry come out in all shapes. I have had several batches of fry that just weren't strong enough and several fry that had terrible spine deformaties.
