    Recommended Small Algae Eater

I have 4 guppies (soon to be like 1,000,000 more ), and 4 Kuhlis. The problem with the Otos are: 1: I can rarely find them (at stores) 2: When I had two of the little guys, they didn't last more than a week or two before getting fungus and dying. :( I could try a couple more otos this...

    Recommended Small Algae Eater

I have started to get algae on the side of my tank (which I actually wanted, because I think that that's the sign of a healthy tank :|), but it's really getting out of control. Like, I clean the side of the tank one day, it comes back twice as bad the next. I know that Otos are really good for...

    Need Help

Welcome to the forum! ^_^ To me, what your Cory there has sounds like ammonia poisoning to me. Try to do daily water changes, and make sure to remove any uneaten food after meals. Also, aeration can help. I'm not a COMPLETE expert, but I think this should help a lot! Hope he gets better!

    Skinny Kuhli?

Well, every Kuhli enjoyed the bloodworms, except her. :( I unfortunately had to euthanize her, due to the fact that since she wouldn't eat, therefore she had little to no strength to keep herself up. I still feel horrible, but it was better than letting her suffer..... :-(

    Possible Replacement Fish

How big is the tank? There are many different options when there are many different sizes of tanks.

    Skinny Kuhli?

My Kuhlis are getting a bit more active now thanks to a new friend, but there is still one that won't eat, and is looking a bit skinny right now. She (I'm assuming it's a female) is shy but won't zoom back for shelter, and is getting to be very slow. I have tried giving her an algae wafer to...

Good Brand Of Betta Pellet Foods?

Thanks for the suggestions! I have picked up Hikari Betta Bio-Gold only because they seemed to be the "older" type (no wheat flour, MSG, or any of that other nasty stuff they put in for flavoring). They are about 10 times smaller than the previous pellet! He likes them too! :D

Good Brand Of Betta Pellet Foods?

I've been recently feeding my Betta a variety of live (but safe) foods that I have found. (mosquito larvae, earthworms -properly washed-, ants, etc.) Now, I've decided to stop with the fancy treatment and start feeding some pellets to make sure he is getting proper nutrition. At first, I thought...

    What Are Your Pet's Likes/dislikes?

I think I have one of the most high maintenance dogs EVER! She is a Siberian Husky/Border Collie mix, and she's 7 years old now! But she hates it when you touch her feet (although that was caused by a traumatic event), she's scared of plastic bags, she's scared of the vacuum, she doesn't like...

    Substrate Change Was Worth It!

I've made a change from bright green, white, and natural shades of gravel (yuck  ), to sand, and it looks amazing! I think it took maybe 2 hours to clean the sand, and 1hr at the most to get the ornaments, plants, fish (try catching 3 scared, energetic Kuhlis in dim lighting! )...

Post Pics Of Your Beautiful Bettas Here!

Trying not to be a noob here, but here's my first Betta, Prism! I managed to find him at the back of the store, still getting used to the new water, sitting in that blue stuff (I don't know what it's called...). He was the only one who even looked at me! He's much happier now though.
  14. TotallyTropical

    First Betta....

Well, here he is! I thought Prism sounded like a good name. (I unfortunately can't find out how to downsize the picture....... Still, good pics!)

    First Betta....

Haven't taken a pic yet, but I'll be sure to! And my LFS actually does take a pretty good job of taking care of the Bettas. From what I've seen, they at least change the water every now and then.

    First Betta....

Well, I've been looking at Bettas for a while now, seeing how beautiful every single one is! But one caught my eye the other day when I was just looking around. At first I thought it was dead, and it was a shame too, because he was a bright, shimmering blue VT by the looks of it. Then he slowly...

    Weird White Splotches On Oto....

Unfortunately, it was early fungus. It was really weird, but I already lost one of my otos to it. :-( Strangely, the oto that I first saw the splotches on was a survivor (I hope!). I've been away for a bit, so I hope everyone will make it! Edit: I came back to see that my Kuhli Loaches were...

    Weird White Splotches On Oto....

It does look like it's part of the markings, not like fungus or anything. I do keep on telling them to stay off of the heater! But I've never seen them there long enough for the heater to turn on. I do have a pretty rough fake log in there for my Kuhlis...... I guess it's a scratch or...

    Weird White Splotches On Oto....

I think I can get another picture. An iPhone can probably take a picture 10x better than my current camera! But just to clear things up: the brownish, pixely, fuzzy thing is the otto, the equally fuzzy and pixely white things are the splotches, and that green thing is the leaf of a plant...

    Weird White Splotches On Oto....

I noticed one weird, white, splotchy thing on my oto, and I was confused as to what it was. The next day, I saw another one. Does anyone know what this is? And is it dangerous, or just markings? (Sorry for the size and poor quality of the pic :()

    Pest Snail?

Assassin snails look awesome! I'll go get some of those. And yes, I thought the pests would multiply like rabbits..... Would I have to feed the Assassin snails after they eat all of the pest snails? Also, I barely feed my fish. Not animal cruelty, but the only other fish I have in my tank are...

    Pest Snail?

So here's how it all started: I came back with 2 more Kuhli Loaches (maybe a month or 2 ago), and saw that there was a snail as well in the bag. I decided that I would put it in the tank, and if it became a nuisance, I would try to remove it. So it went in the tank, and I never saw it again. The...

Alright. The pale one returned to normal anyway today. :good: I will miss him though..... PS: Thank you! Should I Worry?

I was looking in my tank the other day, and found my first (and favorite) Kuhli Loach floating at the surface, and I thought he was just playing around, because he did that a lot. But he looked like he was on his side, so I knew he was dead. :-( He looked happy the day before! I checked the...

    Cycling Needed?

Also, I have to put my Kuhli Loaches in, would they be able to go in, or would I still have to wait a bit? And can I use sand instead of gravel? I was thinking of using it for the Kuhlis (since they prefer it).

    Cycling Needed?

I was thinking of doing a full clean of my 10gal tank, temporarily moving my fish. I was going to use a bleach solution (9cups water 1 cup bleach) that I read was safe for fish ornaments and tanks, as long as they weren't porous (wood, etc), and that you soaked everything afterwards. :nod...

    Put Down The Platy?

My male Platy is REALLY sick from the looks of it, and although I'm treating him, would it just be better to put him out of his misery? Seperate Tank Or Community Tank?

Actually, how about I only have the 4 Kuhli Loaches, 2 Otocinclus, and the Betta? I have 2 Platies (but I am DONE with livebearers), but I'll try to give them away, or go with waiting until their time has come. Maybe I'll see if anyone will take them. And then the Betta can practically...

    Seperate Tank Or Community Tank?

Yes, I was thinking there would be a problem with the Gouramis. Hmmm.... Maybe I won't get them. The problem is finding other fish though. But would a HM Betta be more likely to be aggressive? I know that CT Bettas are more aggressive, and I'm not very interested in them. Also, would Scissortail...

    Coldwater Algae Eater?

I know many people have asked this question, but is there some sort of algae eating fish that can handle slightly cold temperatures? One of my relatives has a Common Goldfish (possibly Comet) pond, and has a large problem with algae in the Winter. He keeps the fish in a bucket in a greenhouse...

    Seperate Tank Or Community Tank?

Well, it's that or my old 1gal Goldfish bowl. :( Maybe I'll try to get a 5gal then. But I think (because I'm changing my mind a lot with my fish tank lately), that there will be 2 Honey Gouramis, 4 Kuhli Loaches, and 2 Otocinclus. I'm also still thinking about different fish, but I probably...
