Trying to figure out how I can legally own an axolotl

Interesting thread...like any pet keeping hobby there are restrictions to what one can keep. As hobbyist we have to remember the big adult word called, responsibility. Just because we want something doesn't mean we should have it. Be it; a safety issue, think poisonous pets, or probably more...

Pictus Catfish okay with Vampire Shrimp?

How big is your pictus cat? One thing that some people forget about when keeping fish, is the the "Eat or be Eaten" fact of nature. Yes one can mitigate eat or be eaten, if one has plenty of hiding places, etc....but still....I hope you have plenty of places for your shrimp to hide. and good...

Will this stocking work for a 450 gallon tank ?

Congratulations on your 450 gal tank.... I guess the better questions might be what can't you keep in a tank that large. If all the fish were roughly the same size at the start and there were PLENTY of hiding places you would see them at the start but as the fish age and grow in size few may go...

    Constructive criticism?

So what's the issue? Seems to me you got a big tank with lots of small fish, From the pic it seems the tank is taken care...if the water parameters are good what the big deal all looks fine. Are you looking for stocking ideas?

    Don’t understand my tank….

I guess I would say what's the issue? from your pics the tank looks fine, are your fish and plants dying left and right? If not it's probably just needing some little adjustments here and there, much as recommended by BlueJungle.

    Worst Advice ever.... go!

Like things in life there's a wee bit of truth in both conversations. For African cichlids water quality may not be as crucial as once thought...unless you actually got the cichlids from the actual African lakes. Most of the fish at LFS are generally from U.S,. breeders, and I'm pretty sure...

    Stocking ideas for 40 gallon

Your stocking idea seems fine, as far as the angle fish. It depends on the size of the angel. a small angel wouldn't be bothering the tetras, but as it grows tetras could become a nice snack. FYI see if you can get a species name for the upside down catfish. I bought 3, years ago they were...

    Stocking ideas for 40 gallon

Seems like you got a good tank as is, the corys should be fine since they are a bottom fish, Guppies couldn't hurt and besides if you have more females than males the females will eventually provide plenty of food for the Angles.

Can Multiple Tank Syndrome be treated in its early stages?

Well the answer is pick a new hobby...LOL like many people I started with just 1 now I have 6 and thinking about a 40 gal breeder....but hey sometimes you just have to scratch that itch.
  16. D

How much have you spent on the hobby?

I probably spent more than I care to find out about. But then again after the initial cost of tank's, filters etc...the rest was just food...seems to me cost go down as the tanks are established and thriving.

Something is growing in guppy’s tank

wow that's an odd looking thing, my guess is a white fungus or algae, try googling white algae and see what google come up with. It reminds of some saltwater marine corals. Im sure others on the forum will come up with an answer. Good luck.

    Upgrading to 33gal Tank

That's probably fine you can google tank stocking guides to help determine how many fish per gallon of water. But remember those are just guides, actual stocking is also effected by the species of fish. Some species are poop machines, plue there's the filtration factors too.....quite...

    Starting a pond

Good luck with your pond, it's another of my wild ideas that I would someday like to act on . BUt I can't help but think a pond full of fish in my urban setting is nothing more than a buffet for the raccoons, skunks and birds in the area. Regards DanC

    Mollies disaster!

First of all congrats...you must be doing something right your fish are breeding. You got a great on-line store if they gave you extra fish. I would wait for a bit before giving away the fry they should be a good size. But why not reach out to forums members in your local area to see if they...

    Moving fish...

Seems to me, as long as your water quality parameters of the tow tanks are similiar it shouldn't be a problem, other than less real estate for the Rams, go for it. but you might want to hold back the other fish till after the Rams are climatized to the tank.

    New tank advice

Wow talk about a fancy tank...it a decorators tank...looks nice but really only suited for small fish. In terms of tanks one should also consider the length and height too, not just gallons. The tank you are considering is very tall so fish can only get their exercise by going up and down in...

    aquarium sites being expensive.

I think it's better to differentiate between general buying from Amazon vs buying directly from a company. Generally speaking in terms of live stock and plants, I prefer to actual seeing what I'm getting. For me buying plants is a gamble sometime they work, sometimes they just die off....I'd...

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Great article but I gotta say...does this really matter? How many glofish are now an invasive species problem in the wild? And if they are more prone to predation so much the better if they escape into the wild. Unless of course eating a glofish is detrimental to the natives. Oh the other...

    Pre-Post 29

yea I'm not into breeding fish per say...it's more like happen stance I doubt I'll be getting any successful broods. Generally speaking, seems people who want to breed fish, do so in very sparse tank with nothing else in them. Community tanks don't fit that situation, but it's cool to...

    Pre-Post 29

Good Day All, I joined TFF back in October cuz of a 55 gal failure and a subsequent move to a 100 g. and needed to get caught up in fishkeeping after a somewhat long absence. This AM I thought I'd share a pre-post image of a 29 gal tank that was part of the 55 g cascade of events. Here's the...
