So recently I posted this thread....and I got A LOT of replies. I go so many good ideas, and so many wonderful comments. So I have decided what to do. Since I am depressed, but love fish, but fall into long periods of apathy I think I found the perfect solution...

I breed guppies and endlers and the only thing I can think of is to keep them in a seperate tank, that way they can go about their madness without disturbing an of the other tank inhabbitence.

I think I will begin to plan for a low maintenence, mostly rooted plants, walstad tank, a tank with hardy fish that will be fine if I neglect them, a tank that won't mind an occasional lapse in care. Something that doesn't need constant monitoring.

I already got rid of one tank, so soon I'll break down anther one until I'm ready to get into it again. Thank you for all the kind words :) :)

@GaryE the problem for me is more it creeps up on me, and then by then I am too incapacitated to do anything. On the brighter side I have been going to therapy so thats good.

I like this idea, maybe I should start researching some new fish species and then grow some new plants. I'm not happy with how I have lost interest in fish. Fish keeping has always given me imense joy, and I am so sad that I am unable to keep up with them as I should.

At this point my guppy tank is overrun with algae, my 20 gallon has completly gone to pot and will have to be torn down, and the only ones that are doing well are my 5.5 and 10 gallon. Those are somewhat ok.

Its not the hobby, its the depression, I absolutely love fish, its just I am so exhausted all the time, and I feel so sad I just can't really move for anything but the most urgent of matters.

So....I've begun to loose interest in the fish. Its upsetting, fish are such a big part of my life yet now I feel apathetic, I haven't been keeping up with my tanks and sort of letting things drift. Not really learning anything new, and just not doing anything. How do I get out of this slump...

I get you! I'm just specificially reffering to the group living in pennsylvania and the ones who live in ohio and my experience living in ohio and pa for 16 years. BTW ohio is heaven, pennsylvania is the 5th circle of hell

They are in their *spacious* cage during school and I let them out after when I get home, and again when I get home for work and sometimes for hours on the weekend. They never fly around when I am not home or when my dad isn't home.

Hi! Personally when I buy a betta I go to That Fish Place That Pet Place in lancaster pennsylvania (home of the amish) their bettas are usually pretty nice and non diseased. Other places that sell decent bettas are, lfs that are not mass chains and ebay sellers.

I had covid, my entire family had covid. Frankly its not that bad, if you have prexisiting conditions they stay home and wear a mask and vaccinate yourself. If your healthy and not immunocomprimised they its not a big deal. I've had flus that made me feel worse. The panic of omicron is hilarious...

Hey Guys. Just an update, I have some sad news. Kiwi passed on 3 days ago from unknown causes. Coconut is perfectly fine but seems really lonely. She's very active but not cherping as she normally does. I got her a new friend and introduced them today!!!! They are doing well and calmly meeting...

@Colin_T The same thing has been happening to me. I can see the forum and see the replies but when I go to reply it takes a long time, sometimes 2-3 minutes to load. Eventually it does come up, but again, not for awhile

Ok I have this, and I have always treated it as algae. At least thats what it looks like to me. I just scrape and drain the tank.

I think the key thing here is that the fish are undisturbed. If the fish aren't acting strange then it should be ok. What I would do is clean the filter maybe clean the filter matter and do consistent water change. Also watch for any changes in the fish.

I lived in west ohio for a long time and our water was so ridiculously hard. Not sure if this helps but yeah
