Dwarf Shrimp Dying Daily - please help!

I'm not sure why putting salt into your tank would help with this problem. If you do decide to go down that route, don't just dump it in, add it very gradually.

    Java moss/willow moss??

It really depends on whether you want it in your tank. If you do I'd recommend picking it out of your hairgrass and trying to establish it where you want it, ie on driftwood as you suggest. Just noticed you live in Edinburgh, like my daughter.

    Unsure of fish type

She is my favourite fish youtuber. I like Corvus Oscen too for plants. Dustin is ok but he's a bit to "HIP" for me.

    Help its all gone wrong

I didn't realise moss balls were so good at removing nitrates. I thought they were just an aid for producing hair algae. I binned mine.

    Some nameless corys

Not sure about Corries but I believe there is an expedition planned to search for new tetra species in the Kelvin in the next few months. Would love to see pics of your CW045's. Corries are my favourite fish. I'm lucky that in Dundee my local LFS usually has at least 12 different types at...

    TOTM, POTM, FOTM suggestion.

I used to be a judge at fish shows, the last thing to be considered (actually not considered at all) in judging a fish was whether the fish, or owner had won previously.

Looking to buy a fish tank - New to the fish biz!

It will clear itself over the next day or two, its a common thing with newly set up tanks.

    TOTM, POTM, FOTM suggestion.

I could be wrong but I think there is a time constraint as to how soon you can re-enter a tank.

    Trimming java moss

I trim mine regularly or it just ends up as a straggly mess, the problem is getting the trimmed bits out of the tank as they don't float. The trimmed bits won't rot, they will just keep growing where they land.

    My hobby...

You can often find pirhana for sale here. They aren't rewarding fish to keep IMO. DOA = Dead on arrival

    My hobby...

This was years ago. It was one of a pair of juvenile pirhana that had bitten through the bag and were DOA at my house.

    My hobby...

I tried that once but it ended up as a mass of bubbles. Was it the fish decomposing or the air in the epoxy? My other hobby is making things from scrap wood and I use epoxy in that occasionally.

Do Assassin Snails Only Eat Snails?

They do eat bloodworms, but usually the fish will grab them from them.

    Apistogramma stocking

I think you would need a very heavily planted tank to cut down sightlines, even then I'd be dubious as to whether it would work out well. I have tried this with 2 apisto males of different species (Cacatuoides and Aggasizi) and I had to move one of them. This was in a well planted 55gal.

I think the "fluffy green stuff" your are referring to are mossballs.

    Challenging my black thumb

Mine grows great in sand, I am forever pulling out new plants. You could use root tabs in a new set up but other than that they won't need anything extra.

    Algae?

Cyanobacteria is sometimes known as blue/green algae. It grows on rocks, plants, substrate, everything basically. It comes of very easily and has a kind of organic smell. It isn't actually an algae. If you google it you will get much more info than I can give you. I get it quite a lot in various...

    Challenging my black thumb

Vallisneria spiralis sounds like it would do the job, it grows well in sand and moderate light. Bristlenoses wont be a problem for val but the firemouth might enjoy digging them up.

    Algae?

    Sounds like cyanobacteria.

    Endlers

I changed from fish to mostly shrimp a few years ago, I'm going back to fish. Most of my neo's are now in a 3 foot tank together so they will eventually end up as wild types I think. I still have one tank of PBL Caradinia, but TBH I've kinda lost interest in shrimp.

    Plant advice

The tabs should make up for any deficiencies in your substrate. You can cut the leaves off without any problem. Best do it as near to the bottom as you can for aesthetics. They ARE amazon swords btw. Amazon swords can get very large, and you will probably find one gets bigger than the others...

Why does my glow light tetra have a big belly?

He (or more likely she) just looks like an enthuiastic eater. I don't think she's overfat.

What is wrong with my goldfish?

When fish have swim bladder problems, they have difficulty in staying the right way up and controlling their buoyancy, and have to swim constantly to do this. Some fish will struggle not to float upwards and others may sink to the bottom. Feeding shelled peas is a commonly used remedy as it...
