Wood glue would be better if the surround is indeed wood. It might be plastic, it's hard to tell .

Firemouths , like many South American cichlids are fairly peaceful (except when breeding) They can get to about 6" reputedly but I've never seen one that big. Most will grow to about 4+inches. Some others that are peaceful are severum, geophagus sp. Blue acaras. There are a lot to choose from...

I would have thought that any effect on PH by plants would be minimal. I'll wait and see if Byron comments on this. He will know if anyone does.

It does seem like a swim bladder condition. Unfortunately there isn't a lot you can do that is likely to help. There are medications you can get but I don't know how efficient they are. If its a swim bladder problem it won't affect your other fish.

Some nice bits of wood there, you could do a lot with them. I'm think moss, anubias java fern etc. Not South American I know but would look good. Your sword look a little ragged. Maybe some fertiliser tabs would help them.

Fish with bent spines often have them due to inbreeding.

No idea about lizards and fish but the apisto should get on fine with tetras. Sounds like an interesting project.

These are nice, all we get here is sticklebacks and minnows.

Hello, like you I'm not sure if the betta shrimp thing will work. Normally I'd advise against it but maybe amanos can survive. I have a lone betta atm in a 60 litre tank that I plan to add a load of ember tetras too. I've no experience with bettas so I don't know how it will work.

I don't remember ever seeing these for sale or I might have been tempted.

So he would be clearing duckweed instead. Not sure if that would be easier.

I never realised I have been doing silent cycles all these years.

If you add floating plants and they take over then any other plants in the pond will suffer and very possibly die off from lack of light.

I would think twice about adding floating plants. You may end up changing the whole ecosystem.

I think lghting is likely to be the problem. You don't mention if you have plants or not, but it seems you will have to find a balance that suits your tank. Try differing lengths of time the light is on (obviously you will need to wait a few days each time to see if it's making a difference).

Undergravel filters. Some people still use them but most people prefer the modern types of filter which are a bit more versatile.

Pygmy chain loaches have always been a fish I'd like to keep but never had the proper space for them. Have a look at them on your google travels. I reckon they would fit in nicely with your tiger barbs.

It looks very thin. You often get fish from shops like this unless you handpick them (not always possible with shoaling fish) I have a rosy tetra like this atm, doesn't matter what he eats he still looks scrawny. Had him about a month (he is one of twelve) and I have been expecting to lose him...
