Have you done any water changes? Did you rinse the substrate? If that's all it is whatever doesn't eventually settle will gradually be removed during water changes.

That doesn't change the fact that as far as buying food goes, Prawns are frequently sold as shrimp and Shrimp are almost always labelled prawns, so telling people prawns will poison their fish but shrimp are fine is not helpful, even if you regard thiaminase as a problem.

How often do you water change? Do you test the water? Maybe this fish is trying to escape bad water quality? If the other fish aren't, maybe the fish just likes it there, maybe he noticed a tasty species of algae grows there?

Breeding nerites only ever happens at home by accident and dumb luck from what I understand. The have precise and changing requirements of both salinity and feeding that would need a separate tank unless you want to see how well freshwater fish survive in what is essentially a marine tank.

I reckon most tanks have isopods of various kinds already there, the fish are just really efficient at keeping the numbers down to virtually zero. That's just a guess though.

Plants will eat ammonia, that is what they getting at. I still wonder if it's going to turn out you water is fine though. If the other fish are showing ill health I would do 50% plus water changes everyday and just ASSUME you have positive ammonia result until you can prove otherwise. Worst...
