Everyone is "let people make their own choices" until the mass hysteria this turned up to 10. I vividly recall being called a "grandma killer" for not wearing masks outside while biking or swimming in the ocean, or walking on empty streets because all the scaredy cats were glued to their mask...
Since I had this thread from my first trip, I thought I'd add my most recent experience. This time I left nearly for the entire month of august. Left on the 2nd, returned last Friday and I'm doing tanks cleanup today.
Tested both tanks before water change. Both had 0 ammonia, both had under 10...
Well, that's my opinion. If they're getting in the business of regulating a hobby, they'll screw things up, as they do with everything else they get their grubby hands on.
Mods feel free to remove if this is "too political" 🤷🏻♂️
The only thing I know governments do well is tax the snot out of people, and make our lives as miserable as possible. Everything else they get their hands on, they always screw it up, and then of course spend even more money to "fix it".
Your parameters are as good as can be, imho.
I'd bet it's stress from the "move" to their new house.
If you can't catch him, don't pursue, as it might stress him more and affect the rest of your fish too.
Keep an eye on him, if he's eating well and not shying away from the rest of them it...
I tried this method a year ago on my quarantine tank, to try to grow plants in it for propagation, while having it running constantly to have it cycled and ready for newcomers or treatment of current residents. I used some organic "dirt" bought st home depot. Can't remember the name/brand. It...
That water does need changing. Glad you caught it, your troubles with algae and fungus also should be diminished with that, and of course the fish will be happier.
US gallons are freedom units of measurement. LOL.
Joking aside, the gallons to liters is one of the easiest conversions, 4 liters to a gallon, as others already mentioned.
Unless you're doing some scientific precision work, that does just fine.
Gotcha.
in my experience (tank running 2 years, perennial forum lurker, and had an algae issue about a year ago when I updated my lights) excess algae is due to nutrition and light imbalance, and water quality also plays a role.
It's a relatively easy fix. Tweak the light time, start with a...
Seems to me it's excessive light time and that will trigger algae. Water changes also can influence this, so try to be more consistent in terms of time and volume.
I keep my tanks at 8 hours of light at most, but every setup is different, so you have to tweak it by playing with it until you find...
How recent is the whole thing?
How many times a day do you feed your fish, what fish do you have, and what type of food and how much do you give them?
What kind of light do you have, and how long do you keep it on for daily?
Most if not all algae growth (out of the ordinary) occurs due to...
Yeah. I got curious on your post /pic and found this,
https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/content/post/how-to-identify-white-spots-on-saltwater-fish-and-when-to-act-fish-health-ep9
Just wanted to thank you guys, the salt seems to be working. The lesion closer to the middle of the back is almost gone, the one on the head is closing/healing nicely. Salt worked wonders. I might add another dose on the next water change if healing stalls.
This is my 29g. No idea of the brand, picked it up used nearly 2 years ago.
Been running almost since then, first had it running to "cycle" and went with a fish-in cycle of sorts for a friend who needed someone to pet sit a beta for a week.
I started with rocks but once I got my cories and...
Hi @Colin_T thanks for the reply. Ill start today, I delayed the water change to start treatment. One thing I'm not clear about the dosage: so, I start with 1 Tbsp per 5 gallons. I assume that's one and done, right?
Wait 48 hours and then, if needed; add 1 more, or 2 Tbsp?
I assume most of...
Trying the link again, and just noticed it says that the video is still "being processed"

Checked what you suggested and honestly it doesn't seem like it. I was thinking it could be some fungus.
I just caught here laying on the sand...
I've used them for 2 week trips and I'm a fan. I have 2 tanks, one with a single gourami and a community tank with neons, ottos and cories. What others said about testing and fine tuning the amount is true, you want to be done with that plenty before your trip.
I bought simple, motorized...
Hi everyone, long time. Hope everybody and their fishy friends are doing well.
Last week I noticed a spot on one of my cory, and thought maybe it had scratched herself on something. As I'm getting ready for water change I oticed that now there are two spots, look like lesions, and something of...
It's unnerving to see this. Sorry you're going thru it. I'd definitely ask for a credit and use it on other stuff, or wait until the better weather settles in and buy fish from there again. I've bought fish from chains and a local, hole in the wall, "dirty" lfs. I've had mixed results, but...
Had the same thing happen to me twice when I was trying to build up my little neon herd. In the end I opted to wait until warm weather because I found out that the fish arriving in these cold months are extra weakened. Neons are already a dicey bet due to poor breeding practices. Add the stress...
