Has your tank been cycled before your fish have been introduced? Ammonia spikes (to my knowledge, someone correct me if im wrong) only happen during the cycling process of a new tank. Cycling a tank can take a few weeks to establish and neutralize the Ammonia levels. Thats if you have already...

Yes the_lock_man, you are correct, the tank had been established for approx 9 months. It has had fish in it since that time, the goldfish and the blackmoor, were the first two hardy fish to go in during the cycling process. I have had different fish in the tank since then, like a "Black Widow"...
