    Makeshift Fish Tank

You need to be aware as well that the plastic can start to bow once you're putting a lot of water in there. If I had to guess, this would get worse as the size of the tub increased, unless it was REALLY sturdy.

What Is Happening To My Cycle?

Using donated media is a perfectly acceptable way to cycle your tank

    Help...stocking Advice Wanted...

I'm really not sure why folks have been recommending you get something other than a regular male betta lol - I'm kind of confused. Anyway, there is absolutely zero reason why you shouldn't get a halfmoon if that's what you like :P

    What Is This?

You haven't been feeding brine shrimp have you? I had a moment of panic once when I saw something similar hanging out of my cory's gill...it was just leftovers in the end. Maybe he was saving it for later! Otherwise yeah it's a parasite. You'll need to finish one round of medications and remove...

    Cleaning Sand.

It's probably your plec doing all the pooping lol The flow from my filter "sweeps" the sand substrate in my tank so that it pretty much all gathers in one place. Then I just use a gravel vac to clean it up. Try testing out different locations for your filter and how you have your filter outlet...

    Filter Media?

I would do 25% while vaccing the substrate and dose enough prime for the whole tank. And I would do this for several days in a row then after a few days increase the amount of water being changed to maybe 40 or 50% while vaccing the substrate each time. Like I said, if they have been living in...

    Before I Gotothe Lfs...

Nitrates aren't harmful until they are well in the 100s. So no they won't be harmful to your fish. The reason we do water changes to reduce them is because they can lead to algae and we need to change the water to reintroduce minerals that have been used up by fish and plants. Just try to keep...
  18. Alm0stAwesome

    Filter Media?

Yes it will be, just do small frequent water changes of maybe 20-25%. There is such a thing as old tank syndrome where fish that have been living in very polluted tanks are shocked to death bu being put into a clean tank or cleaning the tank too much. It needs to be a gradual process of cleaning.

    Help...stocking Advice Wanted...

I don't think the flow will be an issue. Even if he struggles at first it'll only be because he's not developed good muscle tone after being kept in tiny containers his whole life and will eventually adjust to the flow in your tank. I've never kept endlers in a small tank so I'm not sure...

    Filter Media?

hmmm I'd be tempted to just put a filter in the tank and be done with it. There will be bacteria in the tank already to support all of those fish. It's not the usual fish-in cycling scenario.
  22. Alm0stAwesome

    Filter Media?

You can give her up to, I think, 1/3 of your media without harming your tank. You can chop up sponges so you may need to give her say half of one of your sponges and just replace it with half of a new one. How long has your filter been cycled for? Regarding the resulting change in the water...

    Help...stocking Advice Wanted...

I disagree about the current thing but that's kind of besides the point since this is a small 48L/12g tank with little flow (Interpet PF1 filter) so doesn't apply here. The short answer is yes, you can add a betta to this tank. Unfortunately the long answer is a bit more complicated...

New Betta Acting Strange + Not Eating

Hi there - it's normal for bettas to not eat for the first week or so that you get them. Just feed him as you normally would but then remove any uneaten food a few minutes later. You don't need to get him any special food or anything, he'll come 'round. It's also normal for them to lie down...

    Help...stocking Advice Wanted...

lol ok in terms of what one can pay for a fish no...I paid nearly £40 for a betta. But for something quite basic and easily reproduced, like an endler - I think it was expensive and I know they can be got much cheaper - was my point..
