No, it would be opposite side of the room near the door... the kitchen is tiny and the room does heat up when I cook but not too drastically and not like I can't open the window to regulate that if it is a problem.

Filter officially replaced!  (Media transferred of course).   I think my filter was worse than I thought!  Nearly blew all my fish over when I started it up!  I shall clean up my old one and stash it away as an emergency filter.

Firefly's fins are continuing to grow back nicely.  If I remember I will post a photo later of how he is coming along.  His fins have grown enough now that the long strands no longer roll and get sticky fins, so that's good.   I am wondering if some betta's are just smaller than others.  Firefly...

In the past I've had several sort of charcoal colored guppy fry... none of them ever survived.  Some looked healthy for the first couple of weeks but always ended up dieing.  No explanation for it.  I was always disappointed, always wondered what those dark ones would have looked like.

Firefly has had no further flicking and no further damage.  I can also see a tiny bit of new growth (maybe half a mm) on the first part to be torn off.  Hopefully that means the trouble is over and he can heal now.

I've seen a video in the past by someone who does show bettas in the USA (no idea who it was a few years ago I saw it) and he did a DIY video on how to.  Apparently that man did it for two reasons, perfect edges on show bettas and trimming them short on males he used for breeding purposes...

I did discover yesterday afternoon that Firefly was flicking himself against thing and that this is what caused the damage.  I can't see a reason for it but he seems to have stopped and not suffered any further damage since.   But sadly... this is the state of him now.
