If possible, upgrade his tank to something as close to a 10 gallon as you can.  There are a few great reasons... it will be much easier to filter and break the current for him... also more water means it takes longer for the ammonia to build up which works in your favor while your filter cycles.

Could you post a picture of your betta?  That would help a lot for people to diagnose him.

I would like some suggestions for the flakes/pellets portion of my fish's diet (I have 2 honey gourami and 5 norman's lampeyes) and it needs to be something easy to order in the UK.   Currently they have New Life Spectrum but that is harder to get ahold of so I'd like to switch to something...

I have several in both tanks because I love them.  I second giving them a squeeze from time to time. 

I had a day where my fish all were swimming in the same direction for awhile... somewhere on this forum I even posted a picture (was some time ago and different fish than I have now).  Never could explain why they did it.

Maybe you can take the tanks and following the information on fishless cycling and prepare the new tank for her, so when she does add a new fish it will be more the experience she thought she was going to have.  Assure her that a lot of us started off the same way... with a lack of information...

I have a very thin substrate and did run my fingers through it and didn't come across the snail.  I even poked a cotton swab around in the tube bit of my filter in case the snail was in there!  I am planning to mix in some more substrate in the next week or so, so will look AGAIN when I do...

Is the fuzziness cottony, fuzzy and white or is it less cottony and have more of a golden type sheen in certain lights?   Your tank sounds difficult to treat in that it is so small (ideally a betta alone needs at least a 5 gallon) and you have shrimp.  You also haven't said how long the tank has...

Rearranged the entire tank and... I STILL don't know where my snail is!!  And now my betta is sulking because I changed his favorite plant... the new one needs a bit of time to grow but will be so much better... wish he knew that.

I stick to mostly anubias too and add fertilizer.  My anubias nana even flowers a few times per year!  And like you.... most other things died off.... though I manage java fern in one tank well but not in the other.

The plant didn't arrive yesterday as I expected, probably will arrive today... when it does I will have a poke around... still no sign though.  Been looking with a flashlight through the glass.

I am quite sure mine seems more content under floating plants than without... must be some level of contentment there.   As for the pet shop environment... probably neither is feeling all that happy or comfortable... the cup battles with water quality and the one in the larger tank sounds like...

My plants should arrive late this morning... will update later with whether or not I find her after changing the plants around.

I have been considering moving mine next time.... cupping them and the male in a large breeding net along with a floating plant.... no idea if that would work but I plan to try it one of these days (will also keep my assassins out long enough to save the eggs).

My nerite has never laid eggs.  I am getting a new plant for that tank tomorrow so will do some more searching to see if I can locate her.

I'd be fine with introducing another if that helped... only... I don't want to breed them and I have no idea how to tell male from female!

There is NO way she got out of the mesh... it is that hard plastic craft mesh... she'd have had to abandon her shell to have a chance.

And some are just a round build.  I had one that was as above (always pregnant) but she was also of a much rounder build than the others that made her an even more noticeable presence.

So, I've had my snail for a few months now... cute little horned nerite that I named Nelly.  I heard they can escape so I used that hard mesh and blocked up the holes at the back of the tank.... so nowhere to escape through...   But... I haven't seen Nelly in at least 2 weeks!!  During my water...

I don't know if there is anything wrong with yours or not.... But mine used to be rounded too and then as he grew it went jagged too.

I am not familiar with those medications... but for me... when I feel something is making things worse then it is a 100% water change.

She isn't making bubbles that stay, they pop right away... and being female... that seems odd to me.  Also, I do have a male in with her, they do breed frequently and the last time they attempted it was early last week.

My female honey gourami has been blowing bubbles at the surface quite a bit lately.  Is this normal behavior?  There is nothing wrong with her appearance, she has no unusual behaviors otherwise, no poop problems, no clamping, not gasping, eating like the normal obsessive pig she is, water stats...

Is it possible to upgrade his tank to at least a 5 gallon?  His water quality would be much better.   When I am in doubt about what the problem is, I start frequent water changes (in my opinion one weekly change on such a small tank is not nearly enough).

I've been wondering if I could add some Norman's Lampeyes with my betta (also I keep some in my other tank so they'd have somewhere to move to if it didn't work out).  They don't seem to be nippy at all.. but I wonder if maybe they are too small and the betta might attack them.

As you don't have a water testing kit, I'd start right there.  You need to get that water tested, take a sample into your LFS for now and have them do it.   How long has this tank been running?  Did you cycle it first, if so what process did you use to do it?   I am wondering, that since you...

I can't see anything.   Are their any behaviors or symptoms you've been seeing in your fish?  Like stringy poop, etc.  Have you tested the water?

Hornwort often sheds, so for that reason I don't think of it as low maintenance as you end up trying to catch the little bits that are floating around.

I noticed today that Riley has a dot on the middle of his left eye, it wasn't there yesterday.  I haven't managed a very good picture as he either goes off chasing the red light from the camera reflected on the back of the tank or looks at me with the other eye.     My first thought is cloudy...

I keep a pair of Honeys with norman's lampeyes, snails and shrimp and they have been perfectly gentle with everyone.
