What light is it? Is it a planted tank? If so how many plants? How long is the light on for? It very well could be the better spectrum causing algae. But the time the light is on is as important as the amount.

Well, it sort of won't be completely brand new. It will run for a good while before I get fish. My pleco and a bunch of mts that I will get will help seed it some. And more than likely I will still get a bottle of tetra safe start for that tank as well just in case! Lol.

Oh, that reminds me, watch the algae wafers with the mystery snails. Make sure they don't contain copper! I stuck one in with mine and they reacted badly to it. Thankfully I caught it in time and they were OK the day after. Edited to add....my algae wafers are Aqueon algae rounds. Last...

Play sand works wonders! Byron suggested it to me a while back. He has it in all of his tanks, now I do too! Lol. Just one thing about cleaning, just put a few cups in a bucket and stir for a bit. Pour out water. Repeat until water is clear. Way easier cleaning it this way than in larger amounts.

So...I had finally put my blue gourami in the 20 gallon where I had two mystery snails already. That was just yesterday. He had seemed to leave then alone for the most part but when I got home from work and looked in on them, they had bites taken out of their antenna. I left them this morning...

I'd say want you want to do...most people can do themselves if they just research the fish they want. Or come here and be directed to proper sources or just talk with experienced fishkeepers! Makes all the difference sometimes.

Yeah, I'm still thinking male too. Right now he's just in a 10 gallon. He will be moved to a 20 that has tannins in the water from wood and a bunch of floating wisteria so that tank is way less bright.
