I have the 100w Juwel one that came with the tank, goes inside the filter box. I set it at 28C and water temp is 27.5C, room temp dropped to around 13C a few days ago and it manage to keep it at 27.1C. 125L tank (34G)   might want to get it checked.

Do you test your substrate before you put it into your tank?   Wash, leave in bucket over night and test for ammonia, pH changes, etc?

So for your hospital tank or quarantine tanks, after your fish is conditioned or recovered, do you throw out the everything like bio rings, sponges, polypads except the hardware and then just rinse the hardware, tank filter and heater with tap water so the chloride can kill the bacteria?

some say its really quick cycling a tank with established media, like a few days? You just need to provide the right conditions for the established bacteria to reproduce itself to the correct amount.

same here, I put driftwood into my tank so it didn't look empty during my fish less cycle and it started to develop that white stuff.   In the end, I took it out because my pH was getting changed.

ah okay, well I'm testing it out now. I had 2 large driftwood and the 9L bag of soil in the tank and within 12hrs it dropped the pH by 1.   I have the soil in one bucket and driftwood in another, lets see which or both drops the pH.

Didn't know its been around that long.  I thought about sticking gravel too under the filter to stop fish getting stuck in there.   The filter housing is good though for big water changes, where media has to come out too. It doesn't disturb the substrates at all if u direct the water into it.

I just did a water change in my tank causing my messed up my cycle pH...long story.    Anyway, the internal filter housing.....is GREAT for pouring water back into tank. I took filter media out and pour the new water directly into the filter housing, didn't disturb any of the soil.

never thought of it that way...... its a very good valid point, especially if there is no one in the house or flat for most of the day.

I have 1 amazon sword, 1 anubias nana, 1 patch of dwarf baby tear (7x4cm) and one I don't know what, likes like dill.   I know the baby tear is a bad plant for cycling, needs cooler temp 24C/75F, lots of light and CO2, found out after I bought it.   Any suggestion?

thanks. most of the shops here sell the moss on wire mesh in small squares.  Anyway, I'm a long way off from a cycled tank, figured sticking a few plants (4-6) in wouldn't hurt.   I asked at two stores about getting and paying for old/established media like old filter or gravel with freshwater...

So I finally got the Juwel Rio 125 tank with its starter Bioflow 3 filter, heater etc.   (Its probably not the smartest thing to do but I bought ADA Aqua Soil  (not enough too) on impulse instead of normal gravel, and as you guess it, its pretty hard to work with, cloudy water still but no fish...

  Your 6 weeks, did you add any 'starter bacteria' or you rely on what was in your tap water?

Thanks for the info.   I tried online searching for the Dr Tim bottle but they don't seem to have it in Hong Kong, anyway, I'll go ask around at the shops.   There is Seachem Prime and Nutrafin AquaPlus available too...........for cleaning the tap water   Pure Ammonia......still looking   and...
