    Tetra swimming weirdly

Yes, but the barbs might :) I don’t want to breed as I am already very highly stocked so waiting for her to spawn in the temp tank then I will relocate her back to main tank. That way it will ensure that non of the eggs are fertilised. Unless I’m missing something ?

    Tetra swimming weirdly

From the article looks like she scatters the eggs, waiting to be fertilised by males. If she lays the eggs in the temp tank the eggs won’t be fertilised so I can put her back in main tank after.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Thanks. To be honest I wasn’t planning to breed them and a bit surprised that she is pregnant so quickly, despite the recent challenges I had with water parameters. I put some plants in the temporary tank and she’s bit happy now. Tried to feed tiny amount of flakes but not interested. Got a...

    Tetra swimming weirdly

Thanks. Not really planning on breeding as tank pretty crowded. I want to ensure she’s comfortable though.

    Tetra swimming weirdly

If she’s pregnant should I put her back in the main tank? Temp tank is just a plastic box with tank water ... she is just lying on the floor. How long does the pregnancy last? so worried :(

    Tetra swimming weirdly

She’s not moving much in the quarantine tank. Just sits there. When she does swim her head points upwards, looks weird. She swims in the main tank but in the temp tank she just sits there. Should I put her back? Temp tank is just a plastic box with tank water ...

    Tetra swimming weirdly

It’s curved back so it’s female I guess. A few in the tank have curved spine so I thought there are issues with them too. Is she pregnant?

    Tetra swimming weirdly

One of the neon tetras seem to have a bloated belly and is swimming weirdly. His head keeps pointing upwards. I’ve quarantined him for now but wondering what’s wrong with him. I’m going to test water parameters soon but it was normal when tested yesterday. A bit distressed as this is the...

    Hello community!

Congrats. We are the same age and I’ve also got an aquarium, just not really on my birthday :) There’s definitely a learning curve for beginners but folks at this forum is really helpful. I spend quite a lot of time tending to my tank as I’m WFH at the moment and I don’t find it a chore, I...

    Help on Tiger barb tank

I have 10 Odessa barbs in my 38 gallon and they are doing well with the rest of the community. Although I’ve bought them as juveniles, as with the rest of fish in my tank. I think with some barbs you also need to get the sex ratio right. Mine are 2 males 8 females.

Slight cloudiness - should I leave it alone?

Ordered x2 bamboo shrimps and x2 nerrite snails which hopefully would help with dealing with organic wastes in the tank,

Slight cloudiness - should I leave it alone?

Thanks. I was reading website that say it should take 1-2 days for bacterial bloom to clear so was a bit worried.

    Nitrates

Yes, they are indeed Odessa’s and yes they swim really quickly. They are also very curious and explore every nook in the tank. I’m lucky that the place I ordered from sorted ratio of male to female as I’ve only found out that you need more females to males. I have 10 Odessa barbs and I think...

Slight cloudiness - should I leave it alone?

My tank completed a mini cycle about a week ago as I had a big tidy up and clean. Water parameters are good: pH : 6.8-7 Ammonia : 0ppm Nitrite : 0ppm Nitrate: 30ppm (I have heavily planted tank which I’ve recently made some changes to. I’m trying to get the Nitrates down) I do notice a very...

    Nitrates

They are really a cheeky bunch, very interesting to watch. Fearless too as they will nip at anything in the tank they think is food, my hair arms included :) Slightly concerned about the tetras as barbs seem to be getting most of the food.

    Nitrates

That’s if the Barbs don’t eat through them lol. Never noticed this before but perhaps because I’ve greatly reduced feeding now. Just need to get feed right.

    Nitrates

So I gave my filter another rinse in tank water as they contain quite a lot of plant matter, probably from my last tidy up. The tank water that I rinsed the filter media in turned green. It's been 2 days now and the parameters looks good. pH 7 Ammonia 0ppm Nitrite 0ppm Nitrate about 20ppm...

Just tested water and got some strange readings. I haven’t fed for 24 hours and have tidied plants since. Ammonia: 0ppm Nitrite: Just above 0 but lower than 0.25ppm. Perhaps 0.15ppm? Nitrate: Definitely much lower. Close to 10ppm Not too sure why Nitrite increased a little but I will do a...

I had quick google and don’t the Anacharis would suit my tank. Vallis could work but as many have advised I’ll probably leave the plant stocking alone for now and deal with water issues first :) I am bit wary planting to close to intake as the flow is pretty strong but might consider doing...

My tank isn’t large enough for pleco so corydoras are the next best choice for bottom dwellers. And yes, they are absolutely adorable. I have both peppered and panda corydoras and love them to bits :)

    Nitrates

No need to apologise, I always enjoy feedback and advice from more experienced members to improve :) I've actually spotted 2 baby Ramshorn snails that somehow made their way into the tank. Probably from either the marimos or egeria najas I've recently added. I'll keep an eye out for the...

I’m also thinking of moving the heteranthera to the left and some on the right of the centrepiece to the middle back as they are obscuring some of the other plants. Perhaps even getting more Egeria Najas to replace the heteranthera on the front left. The flow is really strong on the...

    Nitrates

No feeding so far and just tested water for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates. Both ammonia and nitrites are zero. Nitrates seems to be holding and to my eye even looked a bit lower, closer to 20ppm. I plan to skip feeding today. Water is slightly cloudy past 3 days or so which I think is...

    Nitrates

Yes, I've read that as well. As fairly new to fish keeping I suppose sometimes I worry that I starve them. RO water is not really accessible for me here so I definitely need to control the Nitrate levels as much as possible. I've read somewhere that some people even fast their fish once a week...

Thanks for the great advice @AdoraBelle Dearheart, greatly appreciate the time it took for you to compose that. I also agree that in terms of plant stocking I am probably there. I'd probably trim down the Heteranthera Zosterifolia a little. It's great growing plant and provides some anchorage...

Thanks buddy :) I'm a technical person so I've setup the tank from a functional point of view rather than the artistic one. Glad to know it's not too shabby and am always open to advice :) Did think of driftwood to replace the artificial decorations, to make my tank 100% natural. However need...

Hi @essjay, below are the pictures of the plants in my tank after tidying up. Please excuse the mess, I am still not 100% happy with the look but for now I'm focussing on solving the Nitrate issue first. I might most probably replant or remove some of the Heteranthera Zosterifolia on the left...

Thanks for the reply @PheonixKingZ The water authority readings is from their website , taken for March 2020. The average is around 16.6ppm according to them. I’ve verified this with API Master Kit. It shows light orange. If I do big water change I can match the colour to the one from tap...

    Nitrates

After a few teething issues I've finally got the cycle to complete in my new-ish tank (2 months old). However now I face another issue, nitrates. I test daily and it seems to hover about 25-30ppm mark. According to my local water authority Nitrates was tested to be about 16ppm, so it's pretty...

Fluval 206 Gasket Ring. Whats Type Of Lubrication

Found this thread on Google. I've just got a Fluval 307 and it was making "whoosing" noises so I did some quick maintenance. I've put some PTFE/Teflon tape around the intake hose and also lubricated the O ring with...vaseline. In the manual looks like this is a no-no. Time for new O-ring...

Help me diagnose my ammonia spike

Nah... nitrites increased to 0.25ppm and ammonia to about 30ppm today. Suppose it’s back to daily water changes. I’ve fed more than usual yesterday but fish gobbled everything up. They seem really hungry too with barbs and some tetras competing for food on the substrate with the corydoras. I...
