    Is my mini cycle progressing?

Cheers :) It has been good learning curve. I’ve definitely learnt lots from this forum, great advice. I didn’t realise that active carbon can cause oxygen starvation. I usually use the Fluval bagged carbon for my 307 which I only rinsing and soaking for few minutes. I ran out so have to use...

    Is my mini cycle progressing?

Sometimes the solution could be something unexpected. I've had 2 fish losses since so I decided to take drastic action. 3 days ago I gave my filter a clean including the pipes, and added bag of carbon. I've used activated from a jar this time instead of the Fluval stuff and noticed the...

    Is my mini cycle progressing?

So my tank started mini cycle about 1.5 weeks ago. I've been doing daily water changes since to ensure both ammonia and nitrite are 0ppm. I use Prime and Stability on every water chance. There were trace ammonia for first 3 days then it became constantly 0ppm since. Nitrites have always been at...

What do I do with these plants ...

Thanks all. I have indeed buried them too deep. Will pull them out for now. I have some slate I can tie them to if need be.

What do I do with these plants ...

P/S: I was following guide from this link : https://www.aquariumcarebasics.com/aquarium-plants/anubias-barteri/#:~:text=Planting%20Methods%3A%20Anubias%20plants%20can,to%20porous%20rocks%20or%20driftwood. It seems to suggest Abubias are ok to plant in substrate?

What do I do with these plants ...

The one near the filter is Java Fern (Microsorum pteropus Tropica Java Fern). The one in first picture is Anubias barteri Coffeefolia Tropica. The one in the second picture is Anubias angustifolia Tropica. So yes, java fern and Anubias. In my main tank my Java Fern is just on the substrate and...

What do I do with these plants ...

First of all I’m not too happy with the quality of the tropica plants when I’ve received them from an online retailer. The plants looks wilted and also the packaging is not like original packaging I get from another shop. I can’t get them anywhere else hence why I’ve chosen this retailer but...

How long is your fishes poop, can it beat mine.

Ah ok. My barbs poop looks like that too. Solid white with dark matter inside. I’ve tried treatments as precaution. They seem happy enough though and can’t see any physical signs of disease.

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

To be fair I get that the largest tank possible is best for the fish, however should give fair advice to beginners. Not just say that you can't have anything smaller than 10G for single betta, which I know is not true.

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

Well FB has nice format to keep updated with family and friends and also different groups etc. There are helpful groups in FB but some are just pure drama :) I've been member of different fish keeping forums and find this the best in terms of knowledge.

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

Yes, the admins seem to favour big tanks with no decorations or fake plants. Weird group. When I challenged some of the replies I get nothing back lol. Anyway good to stick around for the dramas ;) Also just found out you don't need to cycle new tank if you move some of filter media over...

How long is your fishes poop, can it beat mine.

Wow, that's even longer than my Barbs. Curious though, isn't long stringy poop sign of disease?
  16. jonnyc88

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

And a minimum of 10G for a single betta. Not too sure why but this group seems to be obsessed with large tanks. Any tank under 200L/55G is considered too small for home aquarium... not too sure why I joined :P

    Is my Nerrite snail ok?

Don't really fancy poking inside a snail so sniff test will do me :) The Nerrites, unless sleeping, are pretty active. They more surprisingly quick for a snail...

    Is my Nerrite snail ok?

I think someone mentioned before that if they are dead the door will not be shut? Initially I didn't really like the idea of snails but I've grown to really like the twin Nerrites in my tank. They are amazing to watch. One of them even have battle scar as a Corydoras laid eggs on the shell and...

I just seen a post where they recommend 100L per goldfish ...

    Is my Nerrite snail ok?

After 15 minutes he’s moved from substrate onto the ornament. :) Must’ve fell and can’t right himself. Saves me sniffing as last time I did that got some snail juice in my nostrils.

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

Ah ok, I got some from Pets at home and some from Fluval.

    Is my Nerrite snail ok?

Thanks. He was on a leaf earlier so may have fell. I’ve repositioned him. Not sure what the term is but he looks sealed so should still be alive. Fingers crossed he moves in a bit.

    Is my Nerrite snail ok?

Found one snail upside down on the substrate. It looks like he’s shut himself in though. Do I need to turn him around or perhaps remove from tank?

It’s along the lines of fish help for beginners in the UK.

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

Thanks again. I was just a bit concerned as the poster in the FB group is also running fish rescue. I did post again trying to give more context. One things for sure though, fish losses stopped after I started daily water changes. I really think this is the correct thing to do going forward...

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

Thanks @AdoraBelle Dearheart , that is very helpful. Im doing daily water changes now as my tank is going through cycling again. Ammonia is 0ppm but Nitrite is 0.25ppm. I think I can do 20-30% daily instead of 80% as that’s enough to dilute the Nitrite to 0ppm. Is what I’m doing ok?
  28. jonnyc88

Water changes; 30% daily vs 75% weekly, what's better overall?

It’s been mentioned to me in a fish keeping FB group I’m in that daily water changes will shock fishes and potentially kill them. What are your thoughts on this?

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Sorry to hear about your lost. However the UK government is just digging a deeper hole. Did you see Prof. Chris Witty's speech today? He is a nervous wreck, almost if he knows that the facts don't fully support the agenda the government is pushing. Herd immunitiy will ever happen as it wasn't...

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

No country have actually put aside their differences though. On contratry, countries are now free to impose any measures they seem fit. If your livelehood depends on, for example, running a pub (or bar for the Americans ;)) how would you feel if the government forces you to shut for months?

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Apologies, below is the definition of the term. Perhaps it's more popular here in the UK. Again, perhaps this is only applicable to the UK however there are growing number of people who thinks that the government's current policies will have damaging, irreversible impact...

I suppose the pertaining question here is, when is the cure worse than the disease?

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

The policy just doesn't make sense, close all pubs but restraurants can stay opened? Poor Liverpool having to be the first guinea pig. Lookin at the data provided by the government it's clear that mortality rate is not even high. The reaction is severely disporpotionate.

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

Influenza is as contagious if not more contagious as Covid but we never see such an unprecedented lockdown, stripping all civil liberties. There has to be a hidden agenda here.

Crazy knowing that the death rate is much lower than the 1st wave.

    Coronavirus...post your thoughts here...

On another forum I was on there is a large thread of people agreeing that covid-19 is harmless and all restrictions should be lifted to build herd immunity. Whilst I think the lockdown measures can be a bit harsh,I'm surprised at some who refuse to wear a mask because it's inconvenient to them.

    Mini cycle?

Sorry, meant to say I have fish in plus live plants. Tank was cycled but I suspect the medication and thorough clean disrupted it.
  38. jonnyc88

    Mini cycle?

Still testing about 0.25ppm for Nitrite. Ammonia is 0ppm and Nitrate is about 20ppm which is slightly higher than my tap water. Does daily 50% water change stall the cycle?

    Bamboo shrimp moulting?

Phew, that’s a relieve. Lots of nooks and crannies in my tank so he probably found a nice spot to hide :)

    Mini cycle?

Thanks for the reply. Prime is my usual dechlorinator. I'm adding Stability to boost the bacteria to hopefully help the cycle. Unless I'm doing it wrong? I test after about 24 hours after a water change. If Nitrite is above 0ppm I will do a large water change, dose with Prime and Stability...
