If I were to use water direct from well.....

Wow...so your source water is below 5?! I wouldn't have thought plants would react so poorly to a sudden PH change but I don't know why...they are living things also. This makes me glad that I've been slowly introducing my well water for my plants.

Ok...that's what I'd been thinking all along but the recent email introducing those little guys caught my eye. soda ash?! Yikes, that just sounds terrible!

If I were to use water direct from well.....

also cute little fish :) pushing my limits.... It's only a 6 gallon fluval edge (hence looking for the tiniest of the nano fish). Once ready for new inhabitants (after my remaining endlers pass...not that I'm looking forward to this as I very much adore them)...there will only be one nerite...

If I were to use water direct from well.....

Just to update, my well water seems to be somewhere between 5-6. At first dunk of the strip it looks like 5 but changes to what looks like a 6. So I have to assume it's somewhere in between. Since this post I started adding well water to my weekly water changes. They use to be 1/2 distilled...

    my betta sorority

nothing deserves that! I'll be following this thread, I can't wait to see your sorority come to life!!! Good Luck! Oh and I don't vacuum either as I have a heavily planted tank. Before each water change I stir up the gravel that I can get to with a long fork and then siphon the water. Works...

    Hi, I just got tanked!

well isn't that a fun gift! Hello and Welcome! Glad to see you doing research before popping fish into your new tank! Good for you! First thing to do is cycle your tank. I Washed My Nerite Snail In The Dishwasher!

Aw man, don't be too hard on yourself. I did something similar a million years ago when I decided to scrub some algae off of a hollowed out rock. Shook it off really good. Thought I inspected it. Placed into the sink with super hot water and out swam a loach. I screamed like a girl (which...

I really wish I could answer your questions but I'm not going to attempt that as I just don't have the knowledge, so i'll hope someone that does comes along... BUT OMG YOUR TANK LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You must be beyond thrilled!!! What an OASIS!!! I absolutely Love it! You did a...

Betta is at bottom of tank

Unfortunately pet shops are full of terrible advice. Most just want to sell you whatever they can. There are a few exceptions but honestly not many. I commend you for reading up on it and coming here to find answers. Letting you tank "sit" for a month won't do anything to prepare it for...

Betta is at bottom of tank

I'm going to give you bad news. That tank is way too small. There should only be one beta or shrimp only in there. Definitely not a platy and def not a catfish. And DEFINITELY not those three together. Not just because of size but they should NOT be together. I would rehome the platy and the...

Oh wow, that video really kinda broke my heart. How sad. You must be feeling terrible watching this one at a time and no way to help. I'm sorry for your situation. But hobby5 seems right on with that amazing article! Very interesting (and scary). I see that at the end of the article you can...

    Betta and shrimp

They're going to need lots of cover and hiding places!! Once that beta realizes that's moving food, it will most likely go on the hunt.

    Betta and shrimp

My suggestion would be a shrimp only so you can experience them in all their glory...instead of them running for their lives.

    Betta and shrimp

Amanos are very hard workers and will keep your tank super clean! They get a little bigger than your average shrimp so it's chances might be better(although prob not by much) but like stated above...it really depends on the temperament of your beta. Don't fall in love with your shrimp!!! Odds...

top plants get too much light...but I'm in a pickle

Well there is a small opening under the "box" on top of the tank that camouflages the hob filter. It's a small square (which I have to access the tank thru which is NOT easy). So maybe a few little floating plants might stay there? Although doubtful as the current would move them under the...

top plants get too much light...but I'm in a pickle

I have no plans to change until my two remaining endlers pass. Then I will purchase some soft water fish like boraras brigite (or something similar) and just a few as I don't have a lot of room. And possibly a couple more shrimp. the reason I only have one of each of those critters is because...

top plants get too much light...but I'm in a pickle

My tank is a little Fluval Edge 6 gallon that's been cycled and up and running for over two years now. My parameters are: PH: 6.8-7.2 GH: 75-150 KH: 40-80 Nitrates: 0 Nitrites: 0 Chlorine: 0 Ammonia: 0 50% water changes weekly. 2 remaining endlers (will be switching to soft water fish as I've...

Blue Coral Platy taste for Red Cheer Shrimp

I'm pretty sure any fish that is big enough to eat a shrimp will do so (with the exception maybe being a cory). If you want to keep shrimp in this tank I'd say get a bunch and make sure there are TONS of plants and hiding places to give them a good chance. But odds are they're just going to get...

Fish dying One by One after 1-2 weeks in community tank

I think it's safe to say, we've all made bad fish decisions. So, as long as you learn from these and try your best to always research and do the right things going forward, there's no need to beat yourself up. Give them the best shot with massive water changes until they can be rehomed and or...

HELP! :( 15 litre biorb - I know, bad decision.

I feel bad for your situation. When I was looking to purchase my first tank (in many many years) I too looked at the Biorb because of it's fun and different look and there are so many ways to set it up and have it look like a little heaven! And the good news is...you still can do that. The false...

Fish dying One by One after 1-2 weeks in community tank

well, unfortunately you've done everything wrong from the get go (which happens)... Your biggest problem is an uncycled tank. You must first cycle before adding fish. Read this: http://www.fishforums.net/threads/cycling-your-new-fresh-water-tank-read-this-first.421488/ Second you've added WAY...

this is not good. I'm not even sure what that means but it NEEDS to be cycled. Read the thread here about how to cycle. It's very important.

    Are my snails dead!?

That made me laugh...but indeed it is very true  I'm hoping your tank is cycled because they're fairly sensitive to nitrites and ammonia. And like essjay mentioned be sure to have a lid or keep a super close eye on them...they're escape artists! Gorgeous little critters though and will keep...
