I try to purchase plants that come in those “pest free”packagings for this reason. If for any reason I purchase loose plants I do a bleach wash….which terrifies me so I try to avoid that route

If you’re talking about those things that look like scratches on the glass…and if they’re moving they’re probably Detritus Worms. I think we’ve all dealt with them before. It’s been a long time for me so I don’t remember what I did but I’m pretty sure I did a water change but I had fish so...

I've gone nuts boiling it over and over as well and still had that happen. It's bizarre. But it's so satisfying watching the shrimp go to town on it. And they love it!

maybe do up a cute little pamphlet of inhabitants that could work. but yes, having them go to a fb page or website is a fantastic idea!

Adorable! Good Luck! They're so fun to watch! Looks like you most likely have at least one orange girl (they both look to be but it's super hard to tell). Also looks like your blue might be a boy. Keep in mind...not so pretty kids. ha But they're gorgeous right now!

I have a 6 gallon and right now there are 7 red cherry shrimp, one Amano shrimp, one nerite snail. One of the rcs is berried so hopefully babies soon. I never get overrun for some weird reason. I usually have a few ember tetra but I’ve never seen them bother the shrimp…not even the babies...

I think sunburst and red will still create brown? But I may be wrong. This is why I only keep rcs so when they do breed I will always have red. I do keep one Amano as well as he’s a fantastic cleaner and is always busy and he for sure bullies my rcs but they don’t care AT ALL. He mows...

does anyone have experience with COCHU'S BLUE TETRA

You guys do now have me considering the CPDs. My well water is acidic at 5 but it's buffered up to about a 7. But I do mix well, and buffered. So I keep my tank right around 6.5. I've tried to keep the tiny Boraras brigittae in my well water but they didn't survive (nor did any of my...

agreed! Not to mention...the stupid "hole" size at the top is the same. I can't even FATHOM trying to get to the bottom of that damn tank for maintenance ...I can barely get to all the corners in mine! I do A LOT of cursing when I need to get in there.

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

Oh and I forgot to mention... I was so worried that they wouldn't survive and I had one shrimp that was berried and I thought for sure she'd lose the eggs but she didn't! She's still got them! Hope they make it!

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

Yes it was 6 years of not really digging into the substrate (other than stirring around the top of it for water changes. So...it was horrendous. I can't even believe I found all of my shrimp in that. I can't believe they survived "breathing" that in!!!!!!!!! I felt awful.

I've never had luck with plants in my little fluval edge 6 gallon. Just stock lighting, maybe that's why? Plus I have super acidic water. So anubias species are the only things that seem to do well for me. So I use a lot of wood to fill space.

ha...I like how you did tiny check out my answer to Byron below... Oh...and I just went to SF and I remembered why I didn't try them. My water straight from my well is very acidic with no buffering power, but then runs thru a "bullet" with coral to bring it up a bit. So the ember tetra wind up...

I feel like I've asked about them long ago and they may need more front space length wise to swim back and forth. Beautiful little fish though.

Ahhh ok, darn it. I do love the little ember tetra and they definitely do best in my water. I had no luck with the dwarf raboras sadly. Precious little fish.

I have a little fluval edge 6 gallon. I kept a few ember tetra for years and the last had passed. I waited to get new ones because I wanted to change the substrate to sand, which I just did. While at the LFS I saw these little blue tetra and was amazed at how pretty they were. Do they have...

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

I finally changed it out yesterday. My God was that a MESS!!!!! NOTFUNATALL Anyway, I tried the big wide siphon and it wouldn't suck up my old black florite...just the water. So I had to reduce the water by half and remove everything and try to find all the shrimp and the snail in now totally...

They’re more active than most fish. They’re the busiest little creatures and when they have eggs, it’s really fun to watch them turn into the tiniest babies ever. The only fish I’ve been able to keep with them completely peacefully have been ember tetras. They completely ignore each other...

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

Ok, that's fair...I've heard this as well. I'm not totally upset about that part as I have to be so careful anyway with the shrimp that I was never able to be heavy handed when vacuuming. Plus there is no way to be heavy handed in the fluval edge with that tiny opening. As for the plants, I...

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

I’d love to hear why you’d change back? I wanted a more natural look but I’m nervous about the dense packing and I don’t want those trumpet snails that help shovel thru it. I feel like if I just stir it up during water change days I’ll be ok? My tank is so small so I dont see managing sand...

It's been a hot minute. Changing substrate

I’ll see if reducing the water will allow me to catch them. The small opening makes netting very tricky. If not I think I’ll do the large syphon and pray I don’t suck any up. I think that mighty be best option as to not stir up too much of the horror show that I’m sure lies beneath the...
