    Your opinion

I just couldn't deliberately feed something I'd bred myself. I know that fry birthed in a tank will get scoffed - such is life; but to breed to intentionally feed to another fish is . . . heartless. It reminds me of my fancy mice days - you had to breed many mice to get a show quality one...

    Your opinion

I agree with you about man's capacity for cruelty and greed. Puppy farming springs immediately to mind, but this is a fish forum so I mention it only in passing.
  3. LostBear

    Your opinion

I don't think that intentional feeding of any fry is ok. I know it's Nature's Way and blah-de-blah-de-blah but personally I think it's brutal.

If that is you on your avatar, I love your blue hair. I've just bought a cerise dye for mine. (Sorry - nothing to do with fish, I know, de-railing)

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Yep - I think it was an era when you bought a tank and put fish in it. Any fish. In any tank. And left them to get on with it. Some got et, I expect, and some dined better than they ever had before in their lives . . .

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

As far as I am aware - it was a pretty big tank though - four foot long, I think.

Not two males - one male, one female. They were in with angel fish, kissing gouramis (I'm not keen on these), black widows (which now seem to be known as black skirt tetras), zebras, neons, guppies, mollies and platties and a corydoras, from what I recall. Also red-tailed black shark and...

    I think I hate snails

A bit like people, then?

    Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

60 years ago my dad had a community tank and had a pair of betters - they built a bubble nest and everything. I can't remember there ever being any aggression problems (but to be fair, I was only 7).

    New to here!

Welcome! If your friend is on here, I think you can start a private conversation using the envelope at the top of the page, but I'm not sure how to go about it. You have come to the right place to learn - there are a lot of very experienced fish keepers on here who will be delighted to help.

Wow! Burnley blokes scrub up well, don't they?
  12. LostBear

    I think I hate snails

TBH this is why I was reluctant to introduce snails into my tank again - I've had previous Bad Experiences . . . . :(
  13. LostBear

    I think I hate snails

Same here - this is the way to go. Keep snails that can't breed in fresh water. I have two Nerites (Bob and Terry) and recently a teeny tiny snail appeared (must have been an egg on plants, I think). She started off as Zoom, because she had a turn of speed on her, but ended up as Thelma (to...

RUDE COMMENT ALERT!!! DO NOT READ IF EASILY OFFENDED!!!!! If you had had a tiny toothbrush moustache* on that third picture, you could have called it "Adolf Hitler - The Emo Years" (I'll get me coat . . . ) *As a lady of a "certain age", I have a luxurious Stalin moustache if I'm not very...

If Flushable had been here a little longer, he'd know that neither of us intended any unkindness. I don't think any of us do. (And I wasn't trying to point any fingers at you PK - I felt more guilty myself . . . )
  18. LostBear

    Maybe a bit creepy!

    I agree.

    Maybe a bit creepy!

And now I'm frightened to like anything, or make a light-hearted comment, in case I wee-wee someone off. I've had some lovely jokey conversations on here, and have "liked" other people's friendly conversations. rarely has someone taken something the "wrong way", but when a comment has caused...

I think they are getting better. I got a grilling about my tank when I went to get half a dozen neons. (How big was the tank? Was it established? What else was in there? etc) However they still sell otocinclus singly, and had no clear explanation of what their "fish points" mean or how they...

    Maybe a bit creepy!

We all tease each other on here - there is very rarely any bad feeling and it doesn't usually last long. Like my comment about you looking like someone "wanted to help the police with their enquires" - it was a joke, and I thought you had taken it that way (you replied "WOW!"), but now I'm...

WHAT! 12 fish? In a 22l tank - but that's tiny! I'm not sure I'd even put a single betta into a tank that size, personally. (Probably tried to sell them 12 silver barbs or something similar as well)

Just looked at the later pictures, but none of the three look like the one hiding behind the filter. Agree that there three in the pictures are males, so if the filter one is one of them, Adorabelle is right!. (Curse you and your sex identification skills Adorabelle! :grr:. Of course, one of...

I have to admit that I haven't worked my way through the later pictures - I hit a wall of red rage at the "put as many in as you like" phrase form the pet shop owner!:mad::mad: Plus my computer for some reason, doesn't always show me the entire thread. When i replied there were only two...

He has told you completely the wrong thing! NEVER do a "fish-in" cycle (which is what he has effectively told you) it is at least stressful, and often downright cruel - and also this "put as many in as you like" is just rubbish! You need the tank to have enough room not only to support the...

"The tank had been running for 4 days before fish were added." Oh dear - just read this. This isn't long enough and you have been given bad advice by the pet shop! Listen to the wisdom on here instead.

I disagree with Adorabelle (first time ever, I think!) I think the one behind the filter IS a gravid (pregnant) female, and she is looking for somewhere quiet to give birth (not that that will stop her eating her babies if she gets the chance!). She does have a large caudal fin for a female...

Yes - poor Ronald Lacey - another underrated actor and one whose looks belied his character, I think. He certainly had that sliminess after his face melted . . . d:D I always thought he was cursed with the look of a young (though much better looking!) Charles Laughton, as well as the creepy...

I believe it was James Bolam's (Terry) decision never to talk to Rodney Bewes again which stopped further series. Bolam is a very private man - never gave interviews and didn't want his family in the limelight at all (good for him - I agree with this actually), and as I understand it Rodney...

"The Likely Lads" My snails are called after them(Bob and Terry). There was another snail which appeared in the tank (temporarily "Zoom"), which we named Thelma, but she seems to have disappeared, which is very upsetting IIRC, the bloke in the barber's was "Flinty", played by the late Brian...

That looks . . . . sinister . . . :| . I am also 67. When I was a girl ie before I reached 60 :D, I used to get my hair clipped twice/year - no.2 cut at men's barber and then let it grow out for 6 months. Worked well for me - kept it under control and cost me 5 quid a time. The someone at...

A lot of work in such long hair - it looks thick, too. I could only chop twofer off my legs! My hair is longer no than for years due to not being able to get to a hairdresser, but it's still only shoulder length - never grows any longer

Got my hands on a true albino oscar.

I don't think he has black patches - I think it's just darker areas (gravel, tubes etc) showing through the pale thin fin tissue.
