Help me fix up my aquarium

Beautiful tank. Your tank fish and plants look fine. If your looking for a up-lift, you can use a power sand on top of the gravel substrate.

Convincing whether to upgrade my 100 gallon or not?

Thanks!. Well you could build it or go custom. 12mm glass would do for a 125 Long. I love building my own tanks and taking up those projects. The max size I have built is 48 x 18 x18. Custom tanks are expensive where I live if its imported. You could also do a DIY sump filter and place it above...

Convincing whether to upgrade my 100 gallon or not?

This I totally agree gona make a 10 to 12 feet long aquarium someday in the future. My 100 gallon is long enough to work as 3 sections of 35 gallon breeders with the soft & hard scspes as fish spawning sites. When all 3 spawning sections are insync it gives you action among the fish and Young...

It's definitely the latter in the 100g. It has transformed the bare bottom tank into a planted setup with schooling fish with alot of admires that come to my space. Noahm, you are 100% correct. I do have the means to do a new project however, I do have other plans set for the year and not...

Convincing whether to upgrade my 100 gallon or not?

Yes my wants for the year 2024 are my aspirations. Your Right I don't need it. I would be kidding my self as a fish hobbiest that I don't want an upgrade someday. The 100 gallon aquarium was earlier boxed with cichlids (green terrors, texas, oscars, jaguars, fire mouths, archers, catfish...

Convincing whether to upgrade my 100 gallon or not?

In the current context of maintaining a 100 gallon aquarium for nano fish contrast to (cichlids) was a reason I couldn't sustain my 100 gallon tank due to digging up of substrates and plants by cichlids. The softscapes that you invest your time, money and knowledge to make art is destroyed over...

    Bioload Question

Pencil fish are good community fish so you wouldn't have any headaches or stress with the others. Attache the rhizome of the plant with super glue, thread or fishline. If the other el nino has a rhizome follow the same and you will be saving the plants.

Looking for a small, slow fish that stays in the upper or middle part

This probably spawning or mating happening as they lay their non adhesive eggs between sand and river stones. Mine are kept the same mix with whites and golden.

Looking for a small, slow fish that stays in the upper or middle part

Golden whitecloud mountain minnows are top level hemi-stomus fish. They also feed on algae would be a good fit for your planted tank. Nice tank.

Does this look like a healthy tank?

Interesting scape, plants looks healthy accept for the red on your alternanthera Reineckii which requires recommended CO2 and nutrients. I would agree on raising the light higher as your hardscape is obstructing photosynthesis and distribution of equal lumens of light.

    Bioload Question

Your tank looks great! just a few adjustments you need to change. Your java ferns should be attached to rock or driftwood. Leaving them buried under the substrate is gona rot your rhizome and kill your fern plant. With circulation of more disolved oxygen you would increase the chances of your...

Rummynose Tetra. How many do you need in a school?

Thanks for a very informative description. I absolutely love the rummynose tetras as they always school. The holistic approach is in general my take on fish. I got 6 of them 4 months back while they were smaller in body size however, presently at adolescent size males and females are ambiguous to the naked eye. I rate rummynose tetras as my No.1 schooling fish as they own the tank schooling around laying low to the substrate since they are...

Making the best of a 5 gallon tank

My pencil fish and whiteclouds are in a 100 gallon but they hardly school. Most of the time the pencilfish shoal near a log or a plant and whiteclouds shoal at the top middle of the tank close to the surface. These fish does fine with disolve oxygen circulation in a tank.

Making the best of a 5 gallon tank

I got a school of 6 pencilfish they would fit in a 5 gallon tank. They got lateral lines on their bodies which draws your attention at any level when they school. Whitecloud mountain minnows would also be a good choice as they keep your tank free of algae. Your 5 gallon is definitely gona grow...

New Filter....How long should I leave old in place.

From my fish keeping experience replacing the old filter with a new filter without changes to your fish tank is fine. The new filter should be nitrofied after a week or 2. Keep the old filter media for backup just incase, since I don't know the fish you got.
