I have female guppies with my female betta, there has been no nipping at all, there isn’t even chasing. The male guppies pestered her all the time, but female has been okay so far.

I didn’t know that seachem prime was bad for betta tails. This may explain why my betta has splits even with twice weekly water changes and no signs of fin rot. It never occurred to me that water conditioner may be dangerous, I will try stress coat and see if it helps.

Make sure you get a good water conditioner, seven Trent puts loads of chlorine in and not consistently, check nitrates as well as almost all their water comes from farmland aquifers and sometimes has high levels in straight from the tap.

I had something similar when setting up my tank, I “taught” the fish how to find them by gently tapping the glass and then didn’t feed them for a few days. I think the fish ate every last one, I haven’t seen them since. Mine were bought on by excess food in the substrate.

Thankyou for the tip about using black bags as an aquarium background. My tank looks much nicer now and I would never have thought of it.

These snails are lovely. I have never seen ramshorns quite like the red leopards, I must get some. I have pink pearls and blue leopards, they are great, I can’t believe I thought they were pests.

Thanks. I’m sorry to hear about your fish. The fish are new, other than the betta who I made a temporary betta hotel for where she stayed for a few days until the tank cleared.

Hello, my tank redone with dark sand instead of ugly mixed gravel. My crypts are melting a bit but everything else is doing great. The photos don’t do it justice, there must be a knack that I’m missing.

Those are beautiful guppies, I would love my guppies to have turned into gorgeous specimens like that. Maybe my next batch will be better. If i can keep them alive a bit longer this time I will invest in some really lovely fancy ones.

Gh is 14, my water parameters should be pretty ideal for guppies.

I believe it might be the flake food combined with a possible parasite and poor genetics. It happened to a few of my guppies. It’s happened to that last fish before but he recovered after I worm treated the tank and changed his food for a while.

Thanks for the reply. Poor fish didn’t survive the night, its amazing and a bit scary that yesterday morning his whole fin was there and by this morning it was stripped down to nothing. There is only two fish left in that tank now, so I’m hoping the low stocking density will protect them.

Today is also water change day so my ammonia and nitrate tend to be a bit higher although they are never at 0. I’m using an NTlab testing kit, it’s usually pretty accurate

Ammonia is 0.1ppm Nitrate is 5ppm Nitrite is 0 Ph is 7.8 KH is 9 GH is 14

The guppy has been in the tank for 5 months, it was cycled when I added him.

The tank is usually stable. I will check water this evening when the kids are asleep, they think the test kit is a toy

Hello. My guppy sustained a bad tail injury during cleaning last week and I have been keeping close eye on him since for fin rot. It appears he may have a little but it is bright red. Is this something worse than fin rot? I have not seen red on torn fins before.
