Has anyone treated Cyanobacteria with salicylic acid?

My Cyanobacteria is somewhere between under control and out of control. After following advice from here including reducing nutrition, adjusting light, tweaking the plants and following a rigorous water change schedule that lead to massive die off of my creatures and plants, I am still having...

Unexpected fry in fish delivery. How can I maximise survival?

Okay thankyou! I will do water changes every day, switch a sponge from another tank and throw some extra anacharis in to keep things stable. They are endlers so they are really very small.

Unexpected fry in fish delivery. How can I maximise survival?

I had a fish delivery of just two adult guppies to add to my female betta/ Guppy tank and to my surprise there were four fry also in the bag. I have 3 options for them. My female betta/guppy tank, although she is fine with adult guppies will probably eat the fry on under 30 seconds and I just...

    Shrimp dying after water changes

Hello. There are a few changes I have made that to my setup that a likely to cause problems but I’m trying to narrow them down. I recently rescaped my tank and treated the Cyanobacteria with hydrogen peroxide after temporarily removing all shrimp, fish and filter sponges. Since then I have...

    Meaning behind username??

My name mean irritating, annoying, tiresome and exasperating... I was in a really bad mood when I chose it and I wanted it to be a warning. I sometimes regret it because it is a troll name and I don’t want people to think i am a troll.

Mystery plant that is strange and very delicate

I think it looks cool too. I might put in the shrimp tank I’m soon to set up or in the betta tank so the baby shrimp can hide in it. It is a carnivorous plant but I think it only eats really tiny things like Copepods.

Mystery plant that is strange and very delicate

It’s not the rotala, it’s the tiny pale wispy one next to it. The leaves are less that 1mm across and it has curling tendrils

Mystery plant that is strange and very delicate

Sorry for the poor photos. It is growing in a jug in the window with some rotala rotundifolia which gives a bit of scale and there’s a fair bit of algae making it hard to get a clear image. The plant is a very tiny, very spindly trailing tangled stem.

    Betta Smaragdina

It is formidably expensive importing one or two fish via eBay and success rate doesn’t seem good enough for me to try. About £170 for 2 fish when I last checked. There are some very beautiful betta smaragdina hybrids bred in the U.K. by a seller with an extremely high eBay rating. They are 3/4...

Greedy betta living with shrimp advice please

I have redone my 10 gallon and removed the divider that separated my shrimp and betta. So far no shrimp deaths and the betta has blown his first bubble nest!!! But the betta is greedy, yesterday he ate 5 shrimp pellets and today he tried to eat an algae wafer. Normally he gets 4 small pellets or...

best and cheapest place to buy a 10 gallon?

It’s a bit difficult on lockdown but I got two 10 gallon tanks for very little just before m. One of them was on eBay for £6, it needed a good clean and a new bulb. The other that turned out to be identical I got on freegle/freecycle, with filters and heaters and a number of other bits I didn’t...

My Betta sleeps resting on the sand under a cryptocoryne, vertical in a corner or on his side halfway up his moss wall. He is a master of playing hide and seek in his 5 gallons.

Which way is best for killing Cyanobacteria?

Hydrogen peroxide seems the safest option. I do 60% water changes every 2-3 days, I would do more but it is really stressing my betta, if I remove him he gets torn by thrashing in the net and if I leave him in I can’t vacuum as effectively. I also have a berried shrimp who just isn’t good at...

Which way is best for killing Cyanobacteria?

Hello. Has anybody had good results with either hydrogen peroxide or antibiotics? My anti algae regime has wrecked my tank and without meaningfull success. The slime algae is defeating me so I have decided to do a tank overhaul. My plan is to remove all of my shrimp and fish before treating and...

    Lets cull the nonsense..

There are a lot of blanket answers that don’t make sense and a lot that do. For instance newcomers are frequently told to take their fish back to the lfs if their water perameters are less than ideal. Unless the fish is extemely poorly suited to the tank size the stress of the move coupled with...

    Lets cull the nonsense..

    Intoxication

My ex would have many friends smoke in the room with an uncovered fishtank, the fish seemed fine. Considering the mismatch of species he had that managed to coexist the smoke never seemed an issue. In 3 years one fish jumped out, one had tumours and 2 got eaten by a cichlid that really...

    Snails keep dying

My suspicions are on the cheap gel capsule fertilisers, I remove the little yellow balls they contain at every opportunity. I got them on eBay and I’m quite sure it was a bad idea. I would have thought the shrimp would die too with copper.

    Snails keep dying

@Colin_T Ammonia is 0.1 ppm, nitrite is 0, nitrate is 5ppm. I have used gel capsule root tabs and clay balls under the sand and easylife liquid fertiliser but have stopped all added ferts since getting Cyanobacteria. The snails have been dying since before the Cyanobacteria became a problem, I...
