    Stocking my tank

Another cool fish that might work with hard water is the dwarf/pea puffer. They are super cool.

I have no idea if this will work with your water parameters, but have you considered chili rasboras?

    Stocking my tank

I agree with the members above. I would only add that you need to be mindful of the species of fish you are going to add in that small a tank. More will mean you will be a slave to water changes, some need more space to swim, others might not be compatible with your water parameters, etc. I...

    HELP OMG!!! renting questions!!

If your landlord/manager deems that you violated your lease agreement, they have the right to begin the eviction process. Don't want to scare you, but that is the nuclear option they can take, MOST landlords will be understanding and will offer options: get rid of the other 5 tanks, allow you...

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

Thanks @Byron They get big so I wouldn't want more than one. I can live with one large fish, but yes, I do not want it eating my plants. I don't have a lot of carpeting plants and wouldn't be too mad if it ate all my s.repens, but if it's going to much on my other plants, then I will pass on...

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

It's a 48 x 20 x 20. I would only keep one red spotted severum...do they need more of their own kind in the tank? I'll most likely pass on them if they do eat plants! They cost money dude lol

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

Thanks! I want a large school of either fish...BUT I also keep thinking about maybe getting one single fish that will grow large. I heard that large serevums are peaceful and will actually eat from your hand?!

I ordered more plants, but this is what I have so far. As stated earlier...I'm getting it ready for new fish, but still researching and figuring out what I want.

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

Sweet...hello neighbor! Okay, cool I'm glad that my water is ideal for rasboras and tetras. I also have seriyu stone which I believe raises the hardness of water? Most of my hardscape and plants only reach the middle of my 20inch tank, so maybe it would be best to have mid-top level swimmers...

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

I don't know my GH, don't have a kit to test for it. I'm in Washington state so if anyone knows the GH of our tap that would be helpful...I'm in King county, near Bellevue.

    H. Rasboras over Cardinals

Hey guys, I'm leaning more toward the H. Rasboras over the cardinals. The H. Rasboras tick off more things on my wishlist in a fish tank. So here's my question: My pH is around 7.0-7.5, I know pH always fluctuates between water changes, but I can keep it within these parameters. I know that H...

    Cardinals for experts?

Are wild caught cardinals hardier or captive bred?

    Cardinals for experts?

I've always thought of cardinals as hardy fish. As long as you're mindful about water changes, feeding a variety of food, providing a stress-free tank, things should be good.

    Cardinals for experts?

Can anyone tell me why a seller would label Cardinal tetras for expert fish keepers only?

    All Males or No?

Yeah I know TB are totally different from tetras. This was when I didn't know my wife would be stressed out by semi-aggressive fish. LOL, live and learn.

    HELP!!!!

I wouldn't use it. Some people refer to it as snake oil. You probably introduced something into your tank. Perhaps the new fish that weren't quarantined...I'm assuming you didn't.

    All Males or No?

Okay, that's good news. I had a bunch of tiger barbs and their rowdiness really stressed out my wife and we had to rehome them.

Peaceful mid to upper tank dwellers

I agree with my fellow members above. Tetras are known to be fin nippers. Rasboras are fairly hardy fish so not sure what you mean by fussy. A good rule of thumb isn't the inch per gallon rule, but will the fish be happy and healthy: do they have compatible tank mates, do they have enough room...

What are differences between aquariums owned by rich people vs aquariums owned by poor/normal people?

Yup. I know rich people who still drive beat-up cars and are happy as a clam.
  23. cupofjoel

    All Males or No?

Thanks @Byron if I do go with these fish I'll try to have a decent ratio. I just hate seeing females being chased...stresses out me and my wife. Which is why I want a peaceful community tank. Rasboras are another option since they aren't fin nippers.

What are differences between aquariums owned by rich people vs aquariums owned by poor/normal people?

I agree. I'm not poor, but middle class, but you would think the way I spend money on this hobby that I was rich. I just make sacrifices in other things so that I can enjoy this hobby...eat out less, don't go to the movies, etc.

What are differences between aquariums owned by rich people vs aquariums owned by poor/normal people?

I think you're on the right track. Keeping a pet in general means that you are either going into debt or have extra money to spend on a hobby like pet ownership. I've always thought fish keeping was a cheaper pet and hobby than others...boy was I wrong when I saw the startup cost and all the...

    All Males or No?

I had a stocking question regarding congo tetras. Would I have nipping and aggression issues if I had an all-male congo tetra tank? It would be around 15 males. Any advice would be appreciated.

PLEASE HELP! Multiple mistakes made, but I’m learning.

It never ceases to amaze me that more fish keepers don't invest in a proper surface skimmer. This will solve your gas exchange issues.

    Live Fish Shipping

Things aren't consistent at my building. Most of the time things are left in the Amazon hub and I get a code on my phone to go get my package. Not sure what Fedex does. I hope they call me to come down if they can't get in the building. Buying fish online seems pretty stressful if you don't own...

I plan on ordering for the first time fish online. The place I would order from uses Fedex and they need someone to be at the door to sign upon arrival of the package. Rainbow with Emperor Tetras

I actually do remember my rainbows being aggressive. I had the correct ratios and it was annoying how the males chased the females. I want a true peaceful community tank so I'll forgo the rainbows.

On a side note...I haven't kept rainbows for a couple of years, but do they need the one male to 3 female ratio?
