    Polyp-like Growth

Hello That seems to be a tumor of sorts and not a parasite. The general location is around the nose area but I can't tell for sure if it is growing from the nostril of the fish. I've seen it a few times where a growth comes out of the nostril of a fish and often times it is cancerous. Not sure...

    Micro planted tank

Vitya is the most photogenic boy I have. He isn't a terrible beggar like all the others and comes to the front when I tap the glass ;)

    Quest for plakat fry

He does and usually guards it when he's not looking for food. I might put a couple more in and let him have a choice on where to make his love nest.

    Micro planted tank

Funny tail development. If you look back at his other pictures you can see where the notch begins on the lower end of his tail. Hopefully more water changes and almond leafs will fix it. Not sure if Vitya discovered the deliciousness of shrimp or if something was wrong with the water. It all...

More picture! The lighting was terrible and they would not hold still for very long, many females photo bombed. I traded in 2 females and one of the red males and put the larger of the 2 blue boys in the basket. He's started blowing bubbles and is acting like a punk. For now he is White Lips...

    Planted Betta Sorority (Pic Heavy)

After observing the tank really close I counted a total of 5 shrimp, 3 females (one berried) and 2 more than likely males. Pretty surprised honestly, I thought for sure Otabek would eat them. I'm working on getting Otabek back in shape for breeding. I haven't decided on who to pair him with...

    Cleaning substrate

I only clean up under wood/rocks/etc when I re-scape the tank, which isn't very often. I use a plain old gravel vacuum to siphon out the water and depending on the tank, I will press into the substrate to get the build up of mulm and what not.

    small tanks

I love a good debate but I'm too lazy to address all the points made so I will pick and choose. There is no such thing as a sterile aquarium setting. If I were to stop doing water changes and only feed my currently healthy and disease free tank, problems with internal parasites, ich, flukes...

    irridecent shark

What other fish do you have with it? I'd guess he had his whisker bitten. Just so you know, iridescent sharks will get well over a foot long and need a few hundred gallons when they are adults.

    Planted tank newbie!

Just to settle the dispute, I quick google search will tell you that there are almost exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 of darkness at the earth's equator. What one considers to be daylight or darkness is up the the individual. But yes, around 8 hours is usually fine for the planted tank.

    Fish dieing

Check out Prazipro, it contains praziquartel which is the same de-wormer often used for dogs and cats. Side note: When I find myself having too many fish, I take a trip to the local pet store and trade them in.

    Fish dieing

25 liters is about 6.5 gallons. If I had your stocking I'd have them in no less than a 10gal (40ish liter) tank. If you have a mixed gender group they will breed and quickly over populate the tank. While it is common to keep fish in overstocked tanks, the water quality is indeed of utmost...

    Jack Dempsey with Other Cichlids

African cichlid should never be mixed with Americans, especially in small tanks (55gal is considered on the small side for larger cichlids). JD are aggressive and quite territorial so there's a good chance it will go after the Africans. That being said, African cichlid are not nice either and...

    Betta Sorority in 40g

The bigger the better. Live plants are a must IMO. I've got an endlessly changing number of females in a 29gal as it is also being used as a grow-out for a batch of betta fry. I would personally only do bottom dwellers with bettas. Fish like kuhli loaches, bristle nose plecos, cherry shrimp...

New Baby Betta- Concerned About Health?

I'd never remove the fish when doing a water change, no point IMO. They are just fine being left in the tank and as others stated, it is less stressful than being removed each time. In my little 3.4gal that also contains a betta I use a small gravel vacuum and remove half the water then refill...

    Amano shrimp disappearing act.

I had the daylights scared out of me once by an recently escaped amano. Saw something crawling across the floor a few feet from the tank and thought it was the world's creepiest bug. You need to have all the holes covered or the shrimp can escape. Both my amano shrimp in one 10gal managed to...

    Need help diagnosing my betta

Bettas will change color over time and as they age, how long have you had her? From my experience bettas will show more red as they age, even if they never had red in them when they were young. I will also note that I've noticed my females' eyes "bulge" with age. Not like pop eye or anything...

    Quest for plakat fry

He likes to sit half in/half out. It was supposed to act as a breeding cave which should be a snug fit when both male and female are in together. I've seen both squeezed in there, and it is definitely a "snug" fit :D

    Need help diagnosing my betta

She looks fine to me. You will rarely see a blue betta that does not have red in their pelvic fins. My old blue VT had the exact same coloration, even the the bit of red in the anal fin where the fin meets body. If you are referring to the grey stripes on the gill plate, that's pretty normal...

    Quest for plakat fry

Fry are doing good and I'm pretty sure I've got another developing male in the 10gal. So that makes about 5 males out of 18ish fry...not very good odds. This is the favorite, very dark boy who resembles Otabek (dad) the most. Will probably keep him. Another docile male, this one almost has...

    Platy fry is not growing

What have you been feeding the lone fry and how many feedings a day? How often are you changing the water and how much? Is the tank cycled, filtered, and what temp is it? Fry need 2 things, high nutrient foods and water changes. Generally, the larger the tank and the more often they are fed the...

    Try for the "blackwater" look

Added both girls to the the tank today, the white HM gets on wonderfully while the copper is picking fights with the other juveniles, she better stop that in the next couple of days are she's getting evicted.
