    Disappearing shrimp?

What kind of shrimp are we talking about? There isn't a crayfish in with them right? Some shrimp are more prone to climbing out than others. Amono and ghost shrimp have climbed out on me before but my cherries stay put. I've also heard that plecos will eat shrimp, but I'm still skeptical on that.

    White patch on Betta’s head?

Can we get a pic of his entire body? It's possible your betta has a marble gene, meaning he is changing colors. The tissue on his head doens't look unhealthy so that is my guess. Is that area raised/puffy at all?

    HELP!! Catfish fighting?

Ahh yes, the terrible Chinese algae eaters. They are not nice and grow too large for a 5gal anyways. They will attack other fish as well as each other. Honestly I feel those should not even be in the aquarium trade, just like common plecos. Too many people buy CAE when they are small thinking...

    Does my Fish Have Dropsy??

That just looks like an egg filled female. She looks fine IMO. Nothing to be done except add some males to get her to spawn.

    Never observing betta poo...?

Don't worry too much. I rarely witness my bettas poo either. When they do go, it is quick and small unlikely other fish that swim around with their poo trailing behind. If you really want to see them poo, hold a mirror up to make them flare after a feeding. Flaring = poop ;)

    Betta questions...

I rarely ever clean the backs of my aquariums. It don't often spill water on that side so it stays clean enough. I don't think you will have a problem with the back touching the wall. After a quick search I see that it has a built in filter. They are pretty easy to clean in my experience. Just...

    Lumpy cardinals

You mean they have lumpy poo? So long as the poo is normal color (red, brown, or greenish) and width I don't see a problem.

    Planted Betta Sorority (Pic Heavy)

I'm pretty sure it was just the one employee that was having issues. Another lady was netting fish like a pro for another costumer, then there were a couple others waiting to get their fish. I'd say the guy was trying to hurry and he was new. Rushing while catching fish is a no-no. I just wanted...

    Try for the "blackwater" look

Still haven't seen my little calico BN, I think she's gone for good :( I have a few pictures of both the BN from when I added a ceramic cave in hopes they would spawn in it. They actually flirted for a while before the calico dissappeared. Now that she's gone the male has been digging a pit...

    Growth not responding to treatments

That is not a loach at all but rather a massive chinese algae eater. They can get pretty aggressive as they seem to prefer meatier foods as adults. Seems to be healthy but look out for aggressive behavior. I've had one that would chase any larger fish including gourami. Rotten thing was evil and...

    Growth not responding to treatments

If there are nitrites then that is bad, this usually means the tank is not cycled. Any amount of nitrites will harm the fish, this could be your problem. You say a water change is going to be preformed in the next few days, I say do it now before further issues crop up. Water changes are good...

    Growth not responding to treatments

Rather than fungus, it looks like bacteria has eaten away at the tissue there. You need to quarantine and treat with antifungal/antibiotics (many meds treat for both). Kanaplex should work well in this situation. What are the parameters at and what size is the tank plus the stocking? Often...

    Planted Betta Sorority (Pic Heavy)

Yes you did mention you love crypts :D I was going to buy another type of crypt but forgot in the process of getting the the fish. It was a taller kind of crypt with thinner leaves, looked really nice and would of done well in the sorority. Update, that little part where I said "I think the...

    Planted Betta Sorority (Pic Heavy)

It has been ages since my last post for this tank. Everyone is alive and well, the plants are going crazy still, producing runners. The hood light died on me, not the bulb but the hood itself. Good thing I've got a spare, only difference is a few extra watts. I had to move the tank and set it...

    Constipated Betta?

I think the bulge you are seeing is just his spine and/or swim bladder. Many a male betta with a large tail will have that slightly odd bump on both sides. Just google some pictures of other halfmoon bettas and I bet you will see many with it.

    Quest for plakat fry

Update time! The fry are a little over 2 months old now. The larger ones are about half an inch long and all seem well. Still eating Instant Ocean baby brine shrimp 3 times a day. A while back I found one dead fry, do clue as to why it died though. Many of the bigger babies are getting red in...

    Constipated Betta?

Looks pretty normal to me. Is the "bulge" the same on the other side? Also, don't be worried about not seeing any poo. I very rarely see betta poo in any of my tanks. I assume it either gets sucked up the filter or it decomposed already.

    New 10 gallon tank

If you want a few different species then I'd shoot for a 20 or 29gal tank instead. Other then a betta, shrimp, and other nano fish like rasboras, not much will fit in a 10gal. Do you know what your water hardness and pH is? Knowing these things will help with getting appropriate recommendations.

    Babies Help!

Looks to me that little one has been recently spit. It may have been hiding in the tank for a few days before you noticed it though. The yolk sac is completely gone so it should be plenty capable of eating. It can take a few tries before the fry figures out that the pellets are food. I usually...

    Split Betta Tanks Controversy

@prairiegirl74 this thread is very old, like 2003 old. Might be a good idea to check the dates of prior posts. Its unlikely you will get any replies from the others.

    Babies Help!

I doubt the fry just hatched, it would have a giant yoke sac if it was. Try posting a picture of the fry, I might be able to guess it's age. Look for the female, it is possible she has more fry in her mouth still. You can keep the fry in a breeder basket for a couple weeks but the sooner you...

    Shrimp in a Betta tank...?

I've a little male with a growing colony of cherries in a 3.4gal planted tank. All adults are accounted for and the little ones continue to grow but the betta's belly has never been bulging from feasting on the shrimplets. I've never once seen him go after a shrimp but who knows what's going one...

    depressed plecos help

The larger species of plecos can get mean once they are bigger and they need large tanks, larger than what you have. Rather than 200 liters, 200 gallons would be more appropriate. The tank size could very well be part of the problem. I agree with adding driftwood, all plecos should have...

    Try for the "blackwater" look

It's been a month since my last post and am so not happy with the sorority. My lovely koi is no longer, she succumbed quickly to dropsy shortly after the CT died. Now that the numbers of girls has dropped by half, they have been fighting more. The un-named halfmoon with red fins is being a real...

New member, looking for advice on a poorly Gourami

I am greatly looking forward to seeing future progress as the plants grow in and new fish are added to the 240L tank. I bet you shoveled out a great deal of $$$ for your fish and for that I applaud you. Everyone is looking much happier in their new homes. Also, I've never seen an aggressive...

    What’s up with my gourami

I must disagree. Nothing in the photo nor behavior points to parasites IMO. Seems to be more stress related, likely due to the stocking, tank size and water quality. It would be extremely helpful to know the water parameters as many issues crop up when water quality is poor. Please test the...
