What’s a fish you wish existed?

Ohh right I forgot about that

What’s a fish you wish existed?

When I go to a pond I can see all the dragonflies and other bugs that swoop around like helicopters above the surface of the water. I wish there was a way to have that in my tank that didn’t involve, you know, bugs in my room.

I’m even further south (NE Georgia) and our air conditioner has been out over the weekend. Not fun.

    What are you doing today?

I enjoy watching sitcoms with my family and new movies when they come out, but other than that I’ve never really been a tv person. I don’t often turn it on just to watch by myself. The only movies I’ll compulsively turn on are Studio Ghibli movies. Love those, man.

JackGulley’s South American Tank! (Under Construction)

Sounds like pencilfish are the way to go then! Interesting to hear that about macmasteri. I think I’m going to broaden my search and just ask what species my LFS *can* order; a Viejita or Agasazii would probably be easier to find/cheaper and I think I would enjoy it just as much.

What’s a fish you wish existed?

A little bit of a silly question but should be fun. Any kind of fish you wish existed to put in your tank. I’ll go first(!): A yellow chili rasbora.

JackGulley’s South American Tank! (Under Construction)

As you may know, I’m planning on getting a second tank soon! I thought I’d go ahead and pre-emptively start the journal thread for it. Here are the plans: Tank Itself I will be getting a second 20 long, same size as my other tank. My dresser has just enough room to nicely hold the two of them...

    Hello

I love your aquascape! That doesn’t look like someone’s first tank. Some good fish species to consider for a tank that size: Ember Tetra Celestial Pearl Danio Dwarf Emerald Rasbora Kubotai Rasbora Green Neon Tetra Chili Rasbora Endler’s Livebearer Sparkling Gourami Scarlet Badis

Favorite fish to interact with the aquascape?

I love gobies! From what I understand, there’s a genus of them (stiphodon) that lives in complete freshwater, but it’s rare; I’ve never found it. I actually already have shrimp, although I’m down to a handful of them at the moment. Instead of the Chain Loaches, I’ve decided to try again with...

Favorite fish to interact with the aquascape?

The Dwarf Chain Loaches sound right up my alley and they’re definitely on my fish bucket-list, but I think I’m gonna have to pass on them for my current tank. Six 2-inch fish in a community 20 gallon would be most of the tank’s stocking capacity, and I have other species I also want to keep.

    What are you doing today?

It’s so weird to me to think that the largest animals in my area are whitetail deer, and the largest predator the occasional coyote. This in a region that once had bison, black bears, wolves, and cougars, not to mention, if you go far back enough, mammoths, ground sloths, and smartcar-sized...

    These look interesting… Desmopuntius johorensis

I can’t decide if they look cool or like a Great Value brand zebra danio.

    AI v.s. Human

I always liked this comic. I feel like it’s applicable to a lot of the AI worries people throw around. (I cut it in half to crop out a part the mods might not like)

    Shrimp disappeared

I’ve learned three things from my time keeping shrimp: 1. They hide a lot 2. Because they hide a lot, they can easily die without you seeing the body 3. BUT because they hide a lot, they could also easily still be alive and they’re just hiding. I’ve had multiple occasions where I thought one...

    What are you doing today?

Pronghorn antelope are what we have in America. Fun fact: they aren’t actually part of the true antelope family (which includes the African species we call “antelope”, like gazelle and wildebeest, but also technically includes cows, sheep, and goats!). Pronghorns are the only extant species of...

Silicone mini Ice cube trays for fish food cubes???

My repashy actually recommends this on the back of the bottle. I would cover the top with plastic wrap; it does dry out pretty quickly. The bottle also says you can dry some large pieces in the oven to make a “jerky” that can go in the tank as a slow-release vacation food, and keeps for months...

    Cheap or alternative Algae Scrapers?

For algae on the glass I just use a Magic Eraser. Works perfect. I have one that I keep with my fish tank stuff, I wouldn’t use one that’s been used on other stuff.

South American fish that school in upper third?

Pencilfish are a good upper-level dither fish; similar shape to tetras but with some funky behavior. Hatchetfish are another one; they are fish that are adapted to stay right at the surface.

    Feeling Inventor-ly at the moment!

Pic 1: Fashioned a better Pothos holder from some eggcrate. I have it taped atm, but it could float if I wanted it to. Only downside is then it sits lower and you can see the ugly eggcrate more easily. Pic 2: Rubber-banded some sponges to the filter output, breaking up the waterfall so that it...

Favorite fish to interact with the aquascape?

So it’s mostly the pseudomugil-type rainbows that will fit in a 20 gallon, as opposed to the boesemani-type ones (I don’t know the real classifications but I’ve heard of boesemani) that I’ve seen in my LFS? I think they were just marked “blue rainbows”
