The white bodied blue tail looks like a female fancy guppy to me. I have a few in my tank & will take some photos later when I get home for comparison. If you want to keep her may I suggest getting two more females and one male.

It's fine to leave the venturi off. It just add bubbles of air that help oxygenated your water. If you can redirect you outlet from the filter so it slightly disturbs the water surface it will do the same job.

Back to the OP :) the reason I keep some meds is for if I am away for any length of time. I can then ask the fish sitters to dose without having to go to the aquarist. It's easy with WhatsApp etc to post vids and pics of the problem.

Actually my tank is a Juwel 180 with the internal filter removed. It came with that sticker but was second hand so don't know if all juwel aquariums come with the water level sticker.

No. They will only eat each other if there is no food and seeing as they eat waste there is always food. If they have eaten each other I should logically have one giant snail left but I don't.

I cringe every time I am in P@h and see a family with small children buying a tiny tank and being told to come back when it's settled to buy their fish. They will overstock it and all those nice fishies will perish in front of them. A hard lesson to learn. I am guilty of this as my first tank...

I have a colony of assassin snails. I ❤ those guys. Quite attractive in their own right and will clean the tank and kill any other snails.

Title says it all really. What medication do you keep on standby just in case of an emergency? Personally I keep a bottle of eSHa EXIT (spot and velvet) and a bottle of aSHa 2000 (fungus, finrot and bacterial infection) as these will treat most conditions.

I run a fluval 307 external filter. Canister filters are great. You can pack them with an amazing amount if media and mine us extremely quiet.

It's just the substrate or the "floor" of your tank. Mine is surprisingly kids playsand.

I have a colony of assassin snails. They are actively hunt all other snails and eat them. Bonus is they look quite cool as well. Snail problem solved.

PvC Pipe glue is not glue but a solvent. I melts the pvc which then rehardens as a new solid piece. Perfectly safe in an aquarium as long as it has actually gone off completely.

Cheaper to run and don't adduce to the tanks heat unlike my flourescents which where a nightmare in the 6 days of we get a year when it's to hot. ;)

Cory's need to be in a group and need quite a bit of space so not really a viable option in a smallish tank. I like whistlingbadgers idea of a group of Embers, if you don't like embers then maybe even 6 neon tetras (not cardinals as they get a bit chunky). Shrimp are a great idea, I prefer wood...

Angel Fish are over rated as are Discus.

I don't feel I get "burn out" but now and again I do find it hard to get motivated to do my tank maintenance. But when I get round to doing it I feel a great sense of satisfaction.
