Is it ok to disconnect the venturi on a water filter?

Hi – I'm a new fish owner. I have five rosy barbs in a 100 litre tank. I'm using an Aquael Turbo 1000 water filter. The filter has a venturi that brings in oxygen to the water but makes a very loud operating noise. When it's turned on the fish seem distressed by the noise. They hide at the opposite end of the tank and don't move around. I've disconnected the venturi hose and the fish began swimming normally around the tank, seemingly happily. My question – is it ok to leave the venturi hose disconnected from the filter (with the filter permanently on). Or does the filter not function unless the venturi hose is connected and bubbling air through? Many thanks for your advice.

I have the same filter.You could leave the pipe on and just turn it off.Also that filter your can take the part off where the pipe the connects.So yes.

Yes, you can take or turn off the venturi part of the filter.

It's just a way of adding more oxygen to the water column, not strictly needed as long as the surface of tank water is being agitated (causing ripples on water surface) by the filter as this will help with the needed oxygen exchange so its fine.

With some of the quieter filters, I've found that it's only the stream of bubbles from the venturi that tells me that it's on...short of getting off my backside to go and look at the current, of course.

It's fine to leave the venturi off. It just add bubbles of air that help oxygenated your water. If you can redirect you outlet from the filter so it slightly disturbs the water surface it will do the same job.

Thanks for your advice. The water is rippling, so the filter seems to be working, and the fish seem happier without the venturi. Makes things a bit quieter for their owner as well
