I’m losing my mind, sorry about that. Sigh.

    Tetra art

Oh, sorry, you must have been referring to the lovely neon picture. Still a nice picture and creativity knows no bounds. Not everyone goes for exact realism. Still a very nice piece of artwork.

    Tetra art

Yes, I did those. It was just some creative fun. I don’t know what you mean, never saw one with blue fins. I see them all the time and in fact was looking at a picture of a real betta when I did this one, similar to the pic below.

Newest Additions - my first Caridina

I do add a tiny amount of Bacter AE to my shrimp tanks when I see berried females or new baby shrimp. I put a tiny amount in a very small solo cup, mix in some tank water, stir with my turkey baster and then pour it into my shrimp tank making sure to pour it over the plants. Within minutes...

Newest Additions - my first Caridina

No, I haven’t found they are any more difficult. Some differences that I have noticed though is that they seem more aggressive than the neos. They will beat down any neo coming to share their piece of food and I ended up putting them in their own tank. It also seems that the berried females...

What is wrong with my Ember Tetra?

Was there anything I could have done to prevent that?

What is wrong with my Ember Tetra?

Ember tetras seemed like a good choice for my established eight year old 38 gal aquarium. Back in the autumn of 2022 I lost fish due to a power outage (have a generator now) and there was now room for a small school of nano fish to go with my 2 surviving cories, 4 glass cats and one Siamese...

Newest Additions - my first Caridina

I’m excited to say that I now have two berried females and I’m looking forward to seeing my first batch of baby “super tigers” grow. These berried females stay hidden and don’t swim around much as compared to my neos. I can always find at least one of them hiding under leaf litter, a good spot...

Setting up new 20g and would love any advice

I honestly can not say from experience about the difference in cycling with or without plants. My first aquarium was over 30 years ago and since then I’ve always taken some from my existing aquarium to set up my new aquarium. Used filter floss, used substrate, plants from established tanks...

Setting up new 20g and would love any advice

I cycle with plants, but I’m a cheater. I get a new tank set up and cycled as fast as I can. I stuff the new filter with as much dirty used floss from an existing mature aquarium’s filter. I add gravel from an established aquarium. I move plants over from an established aquarium, sometimes...

    Hi!!

This is a really good forum, I think you will like it here. I have an encyclopedia book on aquatic plants and there is a suggested plan, good for beginners, specifically for fish like bettas. Most of these plants do well in low light. The plans are for a 4 foot long aquarium so you would need...

    Oak trees

As a kid I had a lot of maple trees around me. I’ve got oak trees on my property now, but not when I was young. I always loved the trees and said one day I’ll have a house with a park-like yard. I used to lay on my back with my little cassette tape recorder and just record the sound of the...

    scuds & shrimp???

I have scuds in my neo tank. I farm them out for my fish aquariums. If they weren’t already in there I would have kept them separate. When the scuds increase in numbers my baby shrimp decrease in numbers. I think the amphipod would eat a shrimp that had molted if they were hungry enough. I...

I’m stumped. Some look like dots, others more oblong, some much larger, some much smaller.

What would you do with this empty tank?

With your water you could do a tank of Congo tetras and pristella tetras, or maybe some dwarf rainbow fishes and golden wonder killifish. Platys and guppies would like your hard water too. Gouramis (i like the pearl gourami) and dwarf cichlids. You have a lot of choices. Oh how I would love...

    My guests.

The first pic is one of my scuds, and if you did an online search for “gammarus” you will find nothing but pictures of scuds, call them whatever you want. The second pic is a few of the seed shrimp. I took a little video of the seed shrimp so you could see how they move, but I probably need to...

    Moving house

I would only keep enough tank water to fill buckets enough to bring over all of your fish and corals. I would remove as much water as possible from the tank and keep the same substrate and everything. The sand should remain wet for the move as it will be difficult to suck out all of the water...

silly woman thought it was a seed shrimp. and debated adding a rasbora or a baby guppy

White, huh? Probably harmless beneficial copepods. Yes, amphipods and scuds are the same thing, also called gammarus.

    My frogbit is melting

It very well could be the humidity under the lid keeping the tops of the leaves damp or even dripping right onto them. It looks like you have a small circular LED light ring which may not be bright enough for them.

silly woman thought it was a seed shrimp. and debated adding a rasbora or a baby guppy

Seed shrimp aren’t usually seen down in the substrate, but amphipods are. I have one container in which I wanted to culture some green water. I added water and a piece of blanched zucchini and seed shrimp appeared out of apparently nowhere. That is the only thing I’ve got here at the moment...

    Why Do My Tetras Hide?

I just wanted to say that I have a 38 gallon long aquarium with 14 ember tetras and they are always hiding in the huge java fern bush in my aquarium. Also housed in that aquarium is one Siamese algae eater, 4 glass cats, and 3 cories. Like the OP my cories are always swimming all over. The...

    Any Sony video camera lovers?

I love my Nikon P1000. It is great for capturing wildlife at far distances. It also is great for astrocartography. I took a picture of Saturn and got the rings. I took a picture of Jupiter and got its 3 moons. Speaking of moons, I can focus in one one crate in the moon if I wanted. I’ve...

    Stocking a 252l tank

If you’re going with cories and a pleco, sounds like you’re going for a South American tank. Electric blue acaras are beautiful cichlids and are relatively peaceful as long as you don’t get small schooling fish. Angelfish could be tankmates for acaras. Various ram cichlids are beautiful too...

    Fry!

It is hard not to smile when you see a baby fish in the aquarium. I remember the first time I had guppy babies I did not even want to go to work that day. I wanted to watch her have the young all morning long. Now you get to watch them grow and see how beautiful they become.
