Shrimp will be here in 2 days. We’ve got live plants and high quality food , maybe 30 minutes before I add them I’ll add all the quick start and tss and add em all and leave them alone for a while

ok I know they are delicate I was hoping i could just throw all the tss in and feed them normal and let them sit with all the java moss and plants we got. Hoping that would just let it cycle along with letting them breed

My wife made her decision to get 20 shrimp online , we have a tank we are making into a shrimp tank I just thought I had more time.. will 20 shrimp provide enough ammonia for it to cycle correctly? I’d be adding tss+ //quick start not sure yet. Thoughts?

Ok that makes sense , how long should I wait to test? And also I’m not supposed to water change for a week either right ? Should i scoop the poop out once a day? And I’m slowing down feeding to 1 time every other day. I’d prefer not to put salt in since I just barely cycled it out a week ago

Awsome , I did some research and came to the same conclusion, I added tss last night , my bottle only had enough for 25 gallon which I didn’t know so my wife is on her way to the fish store this morning to get another batch for me to pour in to even it out.

How did this turn out

I tested it about a month ago and it didn’t have an unusual high anything (other then hardness cause I’m in Utah and the water is terribly hard) but bichir like somewhat hard water so it isn’t to bad.

Mines 36 and I do a 60%-70% water change weekly and obviously the softener , declorinator , and stress coat , and also quick start with the change every time. Would a faulty filter cause this? Or a wrong type of filter cartridge

That’s sweet , my delhezi and Senegal are like 5”-6” got them around 3” , my ansorgii is like 3” got her at like 2” , maybe I’ll look into that , I’ve always been scared of transferring diseases, but if I do it correctly I guess I should be fine.

Ok I have a spare 10 gallon I can use for that. Is there a ratio I should try to follow for a shrimp tank (m/f) or should I just buy a large bulk and let them go to town? I’d be ok just adding in a few every night and watching them eat , I’d enjoy having another tank to look after.

Bichir , specifically delhezi, love the pattern I love how they eat

I would agree , rope fish do have poor eyesight and rely on their sense of smell. He’s definitely gobbling them up when the lights are off. Edit: I have a bichir that will go after another bichir her same size if she is hungry enough. Once the lights are off it can get dangerous for smaller fish.
